I think that maybe in Chloes case as per a lot of white people, we just aren't that sensitive and don't jump on the racist bandwagon at the slightest hint of a racist remark?
Example: In my cul de sac there is an Afro carribean family with four children, No problem with three of them, in fact my dd went to school with one of them. One of them is the same year as my ds2 and as soon as they started infants my ds2 said she had called him 'chalky' I told him it was because he had white skin (I had to say I thought it was amusing because it reminded me of a tv programme called Love thy Neighbour that was on when I was younger). I told him to take no notice of it. I don't know whether she did it to anyone else.
Fast forward to year 6 and she had been irrating him and some friends while they were playing football do he told her to 'go black home' (which he knew was wrong). We were contacted by the headteacher who said she had no option but to reprt him to the LEA. The school confirmed he had not been in this sort of trouble before, but that they were obligated to report EVERY incident of racism!
Over sensitive or what?
Don't quite see the logic here. You are comparing what a five year old said (who needed to be corrected) to what a ten/eleven year old said, who knew what they said was wrong. The difference is the nature of intent of what was said.

gothic_girl wrote: »Hi everyone. Bit of advice please
Last night someone wrote on our car ' Dirty White Basteredz get out!' ( spelt like that )
Not sure what to do, I have reported it but don't hold much hope as it is scraped out in ice/snow. I have taken pics just in case someone responds to the report.
Also before this 3 men tried to purposely intimidate us by stopping us driving the car around a corner ( by standing infront moving each time by partner steered round and gesturing to us) I have added this to the report as no one else was subject to them. Thinking they walked down the road p****d that we didnt respond and did this but no proof. Doesn't seem co incidental, not really any issues before.
Do not really want this to escalate by actions as we cannot afford to move away (rented) but no one should put these kind of comments or do this to anyone.
Any Advice?
If you think it's a racial attack, (works all ways!) or some sort of hate crime, then report it - the police have to respond to these allegations swiftly.
But, other than that, just ignore it, because even if the police attend, there is more chance of you finding rocking horse dung than anyone actually doing anything.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
If race is mentioned (as it was) then clearly that is a factor in their thinking. It was clearly a racist comment. If race is mentioned (in a derogatory fashion)by anyone then clearly they have an issue with difference (of colour usually but not always)and so it is racist whatever the ethnicity of the person making the remark.0
