Thrift I see your point but the thing is we USED to. And surely there are many people around over the age of 40 that can remember that.

I think, because the amountof snow we used to get, changed. then people are no longer able to manage with the level we have had.

I also think many schools are closing because of the health and safety aspect of it, and the 'sue anyone' culture. Schools have to weigh that up too.

In the arms a teacher has said her school is being sued because a boy fell on the ice in the playground. Taking that at face value, it is really sad, although we don't know the circumstances, as we wasn't there.

Again, cars don't have the snow wheels, so where there isn't any grit, it will cause problems.

Perhaps, if we see this weather more often, people will begin to cope better with it.

I personally, don't see the point in getting annoyed when people complain about other countries coping, and why can't we ect, ect, ect. Nor do I see what multiculturalism has to do with the inability to cope, but as HJ said, there isn't enough money to be able to grit the side roads as well as the main roads, so it is about coping in the best way possible.

There have been so many accidents countrywide, with this current cold snap, so I do hope everyone on here can keep safe and be careful when out and about :)

Well, my mom came over for a couple of hours - more so to have a break from dad, I think :D but she's gone back now.

We have a nice stew cooking in the slow cooker now, thanks to mum, so dinner is sorted tonight :) She also bought some shopping with her, even though we didn't need it, and they bought me a lovely warm cardigan, with a hood, so I can become one of those hoodie wearer's now :D I wonder if I will be asked to remov it when I go in some shops by us that have a ban on hoodies :rotfl:

It's DD's 13th birthday soon, so mum also wanted to get her gift sorted, which we've done now :j I can't believe how quick time has flown really. My baby is going to be a teenager :eek:

Anyway, house is clean, ironing is done and dinner is sorted. Girls have their friends over, and they're on the wii, so not much for me to do now :) I like those sorts of days :D

    Afternoon everyone

I also have to comment on the milkmen, had my milk delivered through all the bad weather. They are stars.

Spent all this morning at the local A&E dept, my son started with a bit of redness round one of the pins in his leg, so took him to the dr's yesterday struggled in as paths not gritted and damned hard work pushing his wheelchair, where they gave me anitibiotics. Got up this morning and it was a lot worse so after speaking to Drs was advised to take him to A&E. Thye have put a dressing on to treat it and now have to take him back to fracture clinic on Monday to check it is working along with the antibiotics.

o/s going to make some vegetable and lentil soup this afternoon. wm has been on.

Hugs to anyone that needs or wants one

    Take Care everyone.

    Hi everyone

Well the good new from me is the elusive Jewellery Box has turned up, :T:T:beer::beer::j:j:j:j:beer::beer::T:Ta great relief as many memories are in there. I had put a load of gift bags from DH's 60th in August inside the largest one, and having bit of a tidy of the spare bedroom/pc/junk room, decided that they could go in the drawer with the others, and lo and behold it was in the bottom, I could of cried with relief, if I was the crying sort.:o

We got to Aldi yesterday, for a few fresh bits together with beans and UHT skimmed milk we always have, I take a tray of each with me to Spain, so got them in readiness. also shopped for our elderly neighbours neither of which are good on their feet and rely on a buggy each to get around which don't work in this weather. Looking on the 10 day forecast things should improve slightly from Tuesday onwards, keep your fingers crossed our weekend in London and "We will rock you" are OK for next weekend pls. Busy feeding and watching the birds as my FB piccies show.

MSD hoping you have better news from Tris soon, and Treacle is OK.
Pen-Pin not sure how the air mattresses work, just that Dad has one and it has sorted his Bedsore he got in the local hospital out.
N9eav glad you had a nice trip, we have been told here the reason they cannot grit out footpaths is that the money for this has been paid out in claims, not sure I believe this as usually the council's insurance will pay. I really feel that they are not gritting in a timely manner and are not considering those who are out and about early for work, too little, too late, then too much. DH reckons they have shortened the cycle the gritters spread too as it used to reach the pavements, and now it doesn't.
H-J sorry you have had to cancel your trip, we know you were looking forward to it. Hope it warms up a little for you soon.
Annie - my PM box is strangely quiet!!
(((:grouphug:)) and sympathies to anyone suffering from earache, mine react to the slightest bit a of cold wind, and if I don't have a hat on end up holding my hands over the one facing the wind, after middle ear trouble as a toddler it is weak spot.
Jayward hope you are a little better today, and your carrot cake works OK, I could just eat a piece.
Cranky hope your chest infection does not materialise.
:grouphug: Anyone not feeling 100% for whatever reason :grouphug:
Yesterday we had jacket spuds with beans and tuna, today, errrrrr better go and see what is in the fridge.
    Take care - DG

    Hello all :)

I redeemed myself after my cake diet day :D I made parsnip and jerusalem
artichoke soup with morels and fried sage as we had a salad draw of parsnips that needed using. I had the rest for lunch. OH won't eat it as he hates parsnips, so he had fishfingers :) Something with the butternut squash for tea tonight I think.

I got one of these for Christmas and I'm itching to play with it. I am restraining myself at the moment as we have so much sweet stuff at home after christmas cake would not be a good idea :)

I need to get some eggs. I may do it tomorrow :)

Computer saga continues - I have tried a third time to order a machine. No delivery date yet but at least the order has gone in. No sign of my Kenwood chef either :( I don't mind really, I don't want people to drive in this weather if they don't have to, I'd just like to know when to expect things.

One folksy item to post when I get home, but it's from the supplies shop so I don't have to make anything :) I made some earrings in the shape of oreo cookies, but I can't paste a photo at the moment as my camera battery is dead again - that's really poor as it's only a few weeks old, but it just doesn't seem to be holding it's charge very well.

    Lamewolf - hug for you
Diva - hug for you too
flutterby - here's hoping you have new neighbours :)
JackieO - Molly's right, it isn't that built up round here even now :)
topsyturphy - hope your son starts to feel better :(

I walked to work this morning - 4.8 miles :) I will get the bus back though :) Hard work walking through snow.

Have a good day all and keep warm, cel x

    Hi everyone,

Donnygal - some Councils self-insure and pay out from their own resources. It may seem mad but an authority that has a lot of claims against it would pay mega premiums.

Not a lot to report. DD is now back in Sydney, I've read her first article for the drinks business website on Sake and it is really good, even though I do say so.

My foot is still really swollen but i walked to work in my ordinary shoes, taking an extra pair with me. It was fine.

Weekend will be housework etc, very boring.

    Afternoon all,

Very cold and frosty here....our water supply froze yesterday so OH and I spent much of the morning getting it thawed out, we now have water again so feeling a little better as I tend to panic if there is no water.

DS3 has gone to get another load of logs, they burn well and throw out good heat so we will be fine....we have oil but the logs are cheaper and means that we can just heat the rooms we want to heat...

Nephew due to leave Heathrow about now for LA, hopefully he will get away this time.

Apparently we have run out of salt and grit in Ireland, so roads will not be treated over the weekend, we are meant to be going to an 80th birthday party to-morrow night that I would really like to attend, not sure how travel will be, it is about 15 miles away but mostly by main roads so may do it....DS3 has a 4 x 4 so will probably be prepared to take and collect us.

Have a pot of soup....ham stock, mixed beans, carrots, celery, onions and garlic cooking away at present, will make it my dinner as I like that kind of thing....OH can have ham, cabbage, beetroot and potato from yesterday.

    Diva....hugs

Good on you JackieO, you certainly have a wonderful spirit, long may it last.

    LameWolf....hugs

Hugs to all who could do with one....keep warm and safe, the temperature has to rise a little soon....doesn't it??

  • Hi again

Just read the start of the thread and had to post to say thank you all for being so concerned. I made sure I posted so that you WOULDN'T worry about my absence but it seems to have had the opposite effect and I do apologise. icon7.gif

Haven't spoken to Tris since I posted.

Treacle Pudding cat seems to be Ok. I think I was more upset by the fit than she was. She yowls afterwards in a most pitiful way but I have been told that she wouldn't remember anything about it once it's over.

Hugs for all and thank you all again. I will catch up with the thread later.
