I forgot to post earlier a link to a local B&B site. Click onto the You Tube movie and when the (pretend guests) who are actually DS2's neighbours :rotfl: are coming off the jetty with their bags ;) you can see DGS legs running behind them and me coming up the rear in a hat. :D You have to be quick though.

The B&B is further down the island than us, just past the bowls club. Really nice people.

Gemmabuckle - thanks for that - have bookmarked it for later. Must admit I could have spent a fortune in Hobbycraft the other day - as a beginner all the stuff out there is overwhelming!:D

I sort of understand what N9eav means - people don't pull together as much nowdays - I don't like the snow & it seems to bring out the worst in somepeople. We have a 4X4 pickup which is a godsend at the moment but we don't use it to speed past other people or to intimidate other people on the road unlike others. We have boy racers & middle aged men driving round our village like lunatics at the moment - skidding & donuting even in the daytime when kids are about. Teenagers are throwing snow at everything & everyone. Our local shop has completely sold out of basics as some people have being buying way over the top amounts with no thought to anyone else. I live in a nice area and it is a shame to see people acting like this. Yes some nice things are going on as well - unfortunately they are just not as apparent to me at the moment.

All our drivers have managed to get into work - problem is some of the other companies we work with havn't been so lucky even when they live in the same area iykwim - and they still expect to be paid even though the company is losing a lot of money.

Anyway rant over I just cannot wait till all this white stuff is gone and things are back to normal.

    Morning all

Hugs to all who need or want them

I have veggie soup slowly cooking away 1/2 to go to my in laws the other half for us so in our half will add some rice of pasta tomorrow

hubby went to mr t's last night with a list with specific brand names on it so we would stick to budget instead of fresh onion, peppers and mushrooms he brought in frozen all already sliced or diced dear bless him he thought he'd save me some work he also went off script and over budget by buying treats as i havent made any all week due to being sick he wanted me to have some feel better treats as hes gone to work all week have asked for the receipt lol so will adjust the budget accordingly

it makes me laugh that we have a policy (civil service) that says its reasonable to expect us to walk 4 miles to our nearest office even if it's a different department, cant imagine some of you trying to walk 4 miles in the downfall i was just wondering if teachers could do the same ( we have a few friends who are teachers but as weather not horrendus here they are all making it to work )or day care places as i know friends leave there wee ones to day care near home but couldn't because not enough of the staff made it in to correctly supervise the rooms. Just wondered if teachers could walk into their local school to supervise even if its not the school they teach in I am assuming here that teachers have some sort of official id

    Have a good day all

    Morning all.

Another cold day here, today, but no more snow.

Have had several sleepless nights now and it's starting to take its toll :( At least we aren't going anywhere for now.

DDs were supposed to be starting back at fencing on Monday, but I may have to cancel. The same goes for their young carer's group on Sunday. It's so icy outside at the moment, but hopefully we can get back to normal in a week or so.

I've been reading some of the old OS threads, and we made this last night:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=523656&postcount=134

I had made it before, but then forgot about it, until I came across the thread again. It went down really well with the girls :)

Mom's over today, so I've put jackets in the oven for lunch.

    Have a good day all.

  • ooh I went back to sleep at 8am til just now :) feel human again. Going to shower now then make something warm and yummy for lunch, jacket spud maybe or scrambled egg on toast. Then I'll go for a walk.

There are strange going ons re my annoying neighbours (the ones who kicked their own door in last month!). My Dad was checking on my flat whilst I was away, and he says their flat door was ajar and it looked rather bare and he heard them moving stuff. They have left an open, full bag of rubbish at top of stairs for almost a week (they aren't ususally this bad!), neither of their 2 cars are anywhere in car park and haven't been since I've been home, and just now 3 unknown people in their late 40's came out of flat. The couple who live there own the flat so maybe they have sold it?! very odd. And yes I guess I shouldn't be too nosey before anyone says it!

Hope everyone's safe & well! Hugs for those in need.

Remmie My OH was the same with pasta for nearly 30 years - he loves the stuff now!!

Taplady I to am proud of the way the milkmen are coping. At least I know my old Mum has bread & milk to keep her going when I can't get round to see her. :A

Heating went off at work this morning but after everyone else had looked at it & declared disaster I got the manual out & got it going again by pressing a couple of buttons!! ;)

Just had the last of my HM leek & pot soup so that's on the list for the weekend.

Was hoping to go for a ride out with OH & DGD this afternoon when I finish work but worried about more snow falling whilst we're out. May have to stay at home playing dollies and teapots again! :D

    Keep warm everyone!

Thrift I see your point but the thing is we USED to. And surely there are many people around over the age of 40 that can remember that.
Yes but life was very different then.
    • Fewer people commuted any distance.
    • Nobody sued the council / school if they slipped on the ice.
    • Fewer women worked so less childcare problems.
    • More local / town centre food shops so easier shopping. I grew up in North Wales and we didn't have a supermarket until the 1980's. Now living in Durham most of the small independent food shops have gone.
    • With regards to gritting and snow ploughing roads, my council spend a huge portion of thier budget on this as they know that snow and bad weather will come. Further south this weather doesn't come every year so the councils don't spend the money on it.

DS school is still open although it has been down to almost -12 here, it is now up to -4. The river has frozen over in parts, something I have never seen before. I got some bread and milk today from town. I'm going to check on my neighbours again in a bit. Dinner tongiht will be risotto. Other OS has been cut short due to lack of free time

Hi Gang well I made it to the Drs and back again, even stopped in the little Tesco's for a quick mooch.Spent my first cash of the New Year all £7.78 of it . Got some fresh fruit and sald and veg, and treated myself to a fresh cream cake for tonight whilst watching t.v.
DGS Danny, bless him walked from his house 3 miles away at 6.00 this morning to Rainham get a train into London so they wouldn't think he was being a wuss because of the snow.I hope he makes it beck tonight.Even if he stays at my house when he gets back to Rainham (I live close to the station) I don't like the thought of him walking in the snow back to his home. It's his first week at his new job, and he has so wanted to make a good impression there.
My youngest DD went into Chatham by bus this morning and left her car at home which is good, as it took her almost four hours to drive back home on Wednesday night and its only just over three miles. I'll be glad when the weather changes and life can get back to normal again.
I am now going off to have my lunch which is half of a reduced cheese salad bowl from MrTs bought this morning with some gammom ham and a crusty roll also reduced.I shall have the rest of the salad tonight for dinner with some steak from the freezer.
Hope you are all safe and warm at home

    Cheers JackieO
    P.S.snowing again

    afternoon!

thanks to Kazzaw, Bargainbird and others who mentioned milkmen:T
DH still not back - his priority today was to get into a little village that he's not been able to get to since Monday so that they can have some milk. Lots of his customers are elderly and depend upon this service.
I've got him some soup and fresh bread ready for when he gets in.

I've been and stocked up at Morrisons - treated myself to a new enamel type bread bin as my crock had broken and I cut my finger on it this morning - got a matching biscuit tin and tea coffee and sugar with it all for £15 which I thought was a good deal. My last set of everything was from carboots so I dont feel too guilty about splashing out:D

I'm stopping in this afternoon to do a few jobs - making the cottage pies and possibly flicking a duster round the lounge - this sunlight shows up all the dirt:rolleyes::D plus a little me-time as I'm working for 32 hours this weekend.

JackieO - hope your DGS manages his journey to and from work ok - good on his for wanting to show he is reliable:T

    Lamewolf - (((hugs)))

off to make a drink now x
    Do what you love :happyhear
