Hey OM,
I've been too busy lately to get on MSE, but just had a quick update-
I hope you have a lovely New Year's and I'd go for your Masters, think of the satisfaction of adding those extra letters after your name. I never finished Uni (ran out of funds, drank too much beer, lol) but now I wish I had...
My car (like yours) had failed it's MOT miserably and I simply don't have the funds to a)fix it or b) get a new one! Not sure what to do other than asking my dad for a loan (and at nearly 40 years old, feel a bit of a !!!!!! doing that!) Any suggestions?
Take care,

Hiya Bunny!
I made your pumpkin pie filling recipe again just before Christmas, it was lovely! That's the last of my 20p pumpkins used up, but I've still got 5 portions of the soup in the freezer to see me over the winter for lunches etc.
I feel for you with the car situation. I think I'm always going to be at the banger end of the market, although fingers crossed the VW is now behaving itself.
Bought a PAYG sim for £1.99 yesterday. Looked around for a freebie one on MSE but couldn't find any T-mobile ones. I'll give notice on my contract at the beginning of January. I'll stick £10 on it which should last months and months.
Bank balance is still looking reasonably healthy. Haven't had to dip into January's salary yet other than I've already paid all the CC bills for the month except one where I haven't had the statement yet.
Off to the PO this afternoon to send the shoes back to ASOS (I'm being very virtuous as they are lovely!!)0 -
I was very good and sent all three pairs of shoes back to ASOS (£28 to be refunded to my card), and although parting with the purple pointy ones was particularly painful, I think i'm on the road to recovery now.........
Although, I have (confession time) in the same breath re-spent some of that money as I bought a Trivial Pursuit game last night to play on New Year's Eve.........OH said he fancied staying in and having a few drinks , which was a surprise as I thought he would say he was going off to the club without me......when I left my ex three years ago, I left behind a huge cupboard of board games, and I used to love playing board games, so I decided to buy one to play on New Year's Eve.
The weather is foul here today. It is still pitch black and it is getting on for 9am. It is blowing a gale and chucking it down. As I have to go outside if I want to get some breakfast from the canteen, this weather will stop me going , and so save pennies and calories!!0 -
Well Done for sending the shoes back, it must have been a hard decision but you've done the right thing.
By the way I thought your OH did really well with the presents he got you, and great he wants to stay in with you on New Years Eve. I think you'll clean up at Trivial Pursuit though with all the AQA work you've put in!
I've been glued to your diary for a while now. You write so well, I agree with others who say you should turn it into a book (think Bridget Jones DFW?) Its such a mixture of funny/sad/inspirational by turn. Well done for all you've achieved and keep it up!Lightbulb moment 30/10/06Debt at highest (30/10/06) £24 816Debt on 06/01/09 £2500Bank Charges Reclaimed from NatWest £14000 -
oooh, thankyou charl8888..........good job you can't see me blushing!!!!!
Had a little nice extra today. £10 arrived in a Christmas card from my nanna and then a very washed £5 note fell out of my trousers when I put them on !
Should get a cheque for £25 from greasypalm at the beginning of January and I've got £35 to come from quidco, although I don't think i'll get that until the end of January, or maybe February even.
Going to stick a couple of bits on ebay today. Won't get much, but probably around £15 or so which will keep the freezer full as the slog through January starts!!
Took advantage of it being quiet at work today and printed off everything needed and then did all the photocopying for my first court bundle. I'm going to do one per week and then by the end of January all the paperwork will be with the courts and the solicitors for the three claims for the 22 Feb hearing. It is a huge pile of paperwork, just for one claim!
i'm at home now.........woohoo.........a whole week off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to celebrate by using up the half tin of condensed milk lurking in the back of the fridge and make some fudge!! God, I know how to live..........0 -

I made some chocolate covered coconut balls from the OS board, and my freezer is full of them now! I don't even like coconut. I planned to make a big bag to go in my OH's hamper for Christmas, but they have to stay inthe fridge as they go soft really fast. I've frozen loads of them, should keep him quiet for a bit!!
I do have to confess to having another tin in the cupboard though.....
the fudge didn't fully set, not sure why. It tastes amazing though (I added some melted chocolate) and has kind of ended up a semi hard cold chocolate fudge fondant!
Got a voucher from lovefilm.com a week or so ago offering me 3 months free DVD rental if I resurrect my account with them. I've exhausted all the free offers for DVD rental and don't watch enough films to ever justify paying for a monthly rental service so this is ideal!
Going to give T-mobile a ring in a minute to give notice to cancel my contract as I'm coming up to the end of the 12 months.0 -
Excellent. If I call back on 19th Jan, they will convert my current number to a PAYG number. They will add £10 to my final bill which will be my first £10 of credit and then I get to keep my current number and have £10 credit that I can use as and when I need.
If I do it today there is a £7 early contract termination fee, so they guy said to wait until the 19th.
bit of a bummer I've bought another sim, I'll sell it at work. Cost me £1.99 on ebay, but may get £5 at work.0 -
HI OM
I have a confession to make, I kinda plagiarised your thread name for my debt diary as yours was one of the first ones I read on here. With all your hard work the past few months with working with the witch, doing aqa and your studies you are an inspiration and I only hope I can get and maintain half the momentum you have. :T :TOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 234 Proud to be dealing with my debts I love the Dave Ramsey podcasts. Not a problem with me bobbie!!! I'm going to pop over to you and have a read....
Took the dog down the beach - blimmin' windy or what??!!
It's nibbles, Triv. and a couple of drinks tonight. Fancy opening the bottle of wine I got from Christmas from a friend, but with the Prozac I'm being very careful!!!
Somerfield had loads of really reduced stuff yesterday, so I picked a few bargains for the freezer (sausages/stewing beef etc)
Going to do a bit on AQA this afternoon. Last day of the month to earn a few 30 pences.
Can I wish everyone who has added to my diary, and everyone who has read and lurked (I can't believe I've had over 25,000 views!!!):staradmin _party_ HAPPY NEW YEAR_party_ :staradmin
Your support has been invaluable. This has to be my worst year ever and I am praying for an upturn in fortunes in 2007.
To all the DFW's - keep on going, we will get there together!!0
