Well our short wearing postie is still wearing her knee lengths (well just below the knee) in temps that have got as low as -14. Told her she must be mad, she just laughed at me and pointed out my wet trousers, and asked who the mad one was. So fair play to her.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Well, here is a report from St Leonards on Sea nr Hastings, East Sussex. We haven't had a mail delivery since Monday and no refuse collection in the New Year.
I don't blame people as our (ambulance route) steep hilly road hasn't been gritted as Hastings Borough Council apparently ran out of grit last weekend and so its now treacherous. Having said that, I haven't seen an ambulance either which means that they have found a better safer route to use. Ironic as the Council won't do anything about the speeding problem down our road as apparently the ambulance has no other option than to use our road!
Far be it from me to suggest that my Local Authority is using excuses to not addressing traffic calming issues
Unfortunately though, one thing is happening again which happened last January when we had poor weather, then again when they had their strikes and that is that any signed for deliveries are being returned "not collected from sorting office". However, RM haven't actually attempted to deliver the item in the first place - ie I have had no postcard through. Three items have been returned so far in this manner in the fortnight - strange considering we've not had postal deliveries in the street for some of the days - let alone cards posted through letterbox. It is their way of reducing their backlogs - just return it to sender for the recipient to deal with later and pay for repeat delivery.
I tried to complain about this practice to RM as it is so blatant, but was simply told that obviously this is only happening because the posties are posting postcards through and we are simply ignoring them - regardless of my repeat explanation that I have received no card through the door - I just get a standard reply. How can you prove it? Well you can't is the simple answer. If it happened once in a while, fair enough - but now it is a dead cert this will happen every time there are issues with deliveries.
I am all for supporting posties, refuse collectors, etc who are expected to work in these weather conditions but has anyone else come across this activity? Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

!!!!!! re this "And why are you worrying about your lodgers post, if that is all you have to worry about in life late post thats is not yours"
Not that this is any of your business as it concerns my private personal circumstances but first of all(as I do know you like to throw the word ignorant about like grit on a pavement) please quote exactly where I used the word lodger to refer to my flatmate. It is not a word I would ever use unless I owned my own property and had a paying lodger. As the flat belongs to my flatmate, I used the accurate and apposite word of "flatmate".
As his post relates to his living situation and not that it is any business of yours and nor do I feel comfortable posting things that are not my personal issues but he has many financial and associated issues relating to his income, his debts and his home with regard to this post. As I am a flatmate of his, living in his property which he could lose resulting in my being made homeless I actually DO think anything relating to this and any possible resolvement/solution is of concern to me. Thanks for making me post this private and personal stuff in public when it is something that I do not even mention to my personal friends.
Thank you also for trivialising this issue. I can see you are either still drunk on your Xmas booze, or more concerned with finding adverts offensive and encouraging someone to take legal action over a haircut.. and you talk about living in the real world...:rotfl:
EDIT
