You don't even need to go out and ask those lazy skiving posties who never answer the phone have a helpful regional guide to affected areas

Must be nice to live in a "local" world where nationwide events should leave you unaffected
Service Information for customers
Service Update for customers in London on Thursday 7th January 2010
Mail collection, distribution, processing and deliveries are taking place in London today, Thursday 7th January.
Delivery of mail
Deliveries should be taking place in all areas today, although wintry conditions may be affecting deliveries in some parts of London.
This must be bs just for my street then as have seen other posties. And FYI some of my mail is local mail and would not have taken this long had it been delivered door to door on footWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Well the posties are out today, even though we've had around 6-7 inches fall over the past two days. One of them is actually in shorts  apparently our postie says he is doing it as a dare and if he doesn't go into trousers at all, they all have to give money to charity! What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Don't believe everything you see on the news. The 'big picture' is that some parts of country have experienced bad weather, but they don't mention that other parts of the country haven't. Where I live we had one brief snow shower on Tuesday but otherwise the weather has been reasonably mild, the main roads are all perfectly clear, shops and businesses are operating as normal and even the trains are running on time!
The problem is that the BBC and ITV always send their reporters to the worst affected areas so they can be filmed reporting from the middle of a six foot snow drift. If they sent a reporter here they'd be struggling to find a six millimeter deep snow drift to stand in!What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

I have now fallen over 4 times and damaged my knee, and I all I get for it is abuse on the street from people that have not recieved post. These are the same people that have not gone into work due to the snow......
Dont know the posties all the time, most of us work hard. I personally dont want to be out for hours on end, cold with wet feet and trousers, falling over and being pelted with snowballs by bored school children.
And to the poster that said he lived 10 mins from his sorting office......I live 5 mins from mine, but my post actually comes from another sorting office.
It was me who lived 10 mins from sorting office but I know our post comes from there as often have to pick things up from it.What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

To be honest it was all the sly digs about the posties that annoyed me and no I am not a postie, nor is anyone in my family but I wouldn't want their job at the moment they are damned whatever they do
I wasnt damning them no matter what they do but tbh I can make the point that as an unemployed person I would love to have a job at the moment and will work hard and be dedicated and certainly would have made more than Herculean effort to go to work this week if I'd been fortunate enough to have a job to go to. As has to be noted and has indeed been commented on in the pres and media far too many people use a little bit of snow/rain etc as an excuse to slack off.:rolleyes:What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Back pedalling ....Yes I live in a world where snow in Scotland or wars in Afghanistan have no effect on my life
Shows your ignorance"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.0 -
Our local postie is still making it out to us

Here Here Andy/ You make some excellent points here. Not ALL the UK has been that badly affected. I watch The Wright Stuff and they often comment on this.
You mean the BBC go to areas with very bad weather when reporting on.... BAD WEATHER? It's a conspiracy so that all the posties & teachers can skive off.
We should all get our news from The Wright Stuff then we'd really know what we were talking about... Or maybe try the Daily Mail?!
I was amazed to see my postie turn up on Wednesday (and in the morning too) when all of the public transport was cancelled & I couldn't get into work. The pavements were lethal & personally I don't think it was worth the risk for him to do his round.
Surely in this day and age we have other ways of contacting someone if it is all that urgent.Wedding 5th September 20150 -

Nor does a war in Afghanistan as I know nobody in the Forces...
Blueangel we have had no snow here aside from a light dusting on Tuesday evening. We have had 2 to 3 days now of gradually warming weather with no overnight freeze or frost and bright strong hot sunshine during the day.Paths are clear. There is no excuse left now for people being unable to get to work.
My point re the Wright Stuff is that it does confirm the experiences of real people and yes it does remind us that there are some people out there still wanting to carry on normal lives eg callers who wanted their kids to go to school or to go to work and their workplaces and schools closed unnecessarily. Yes the BBC news shows bad weather in places but as another poster on here said it is NOT everywhere which is the implication. Were I to rigidly stick to what the BBC was telling me about our area, I would be believing had 7-8 inches of snow on Tuesday and been totally freezing yesterday instead of warmer temperatures and a light dusting which of course does not make a news story..
Yes we do have other ways of contacting people such as emails and phones but that doesnt really have any bearing on any postal deliveries which is the contact in question. If waiting for rental dvds (me)and confirmation letters from Govt and council depts (flatmate) emails and phones dont come into it.
As I said I remain in deep admiration of dedicated posties and other workers who prove what this country should really be about. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
So - can we have an update on the postie with shorts? He must have cracked by now - I'm sat at home (no work calls today) wearing two jumpers, heating on, and a big thick dressing gown and I'm still freezing!
I'm not fussed if my visa bill's late showing up to be honest - our post seems to be running relatively normal, but I am scanning and emailing a backup copy of my work timesheets in in case the post does snarl up slightly as a precaution.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
