Well they've actually delivered the outstanding 'letter' mail today after people complained. I never had an issue with things taking time to get delivered however its the complete silence and confusion over the whole situation, the sorting offices should all of a section on the Royal Mail website where they can keep customers updated on disruption.

    http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=1000002&mediaId=99700760

The sorting office is 3 miles away, if it was walking distance I would have gone on foot to collect the mail. However it is not safe for everybody to be getting their cars out and going to pick up letters as all though the roads aren't terrible they aren't great and cars skidding about is going to make matters worse.

If it isn't safe for people to go to the sorting office how would it be any safer for them to come to you?

I still do not know where my parcels are, I know at least one of them has been sent via royal mail but not the others. I have better things to be doing with my time than chasing these up. I said I will seek compensation if these items get 'returned to sender', I am not paying postage twice that is a fact and it would be just like them to send items back to the sender rather than even TRY to get it to its destination. Quite simply when they sorted the mail for delivery they could have put a note in with the letters (possibly a call for collection/redelivery card) advising that there are parcels waiting that you need to make arrangements for.

If the items get returned to sender then you will probably get a refund but I doubt that you'll get them sent again for free or any compensation either. Look around, this is a weather problem that has affected most parts of the UK, for goodness sakes, have a heart and stop being so selfish about your mail - people have actually died as a result of the weather. I haven't had mail either, but do you know what, I actually understand that it isn't the fault of the senders or royal mail!

All this said, this is not the first time that this country has had bad weather with ice and snow and companies like Royal Mail should be better organised for it.

How do you expect they do that? Go out and buy lots of snow ploughs just in case?

As for community spirit, I have helped push 4 people get their cars back in around my village this week. One of which had just been returned from the garage and the owner thought it would be a good idea to go up and down the street in it for a test drive rather than waiting until the snow had melted and surprise surprise it got stuck.

It is this type of Idiocy I have no time for. Same as people thinking it was clever to be out shovelling snow up in piles the last couple of days when its forcast winds for the weekend and into next week which is just going to blow it back into the road. In difficult situations, a little common sense is all that's required!.

Maybe people are shovelling snow away to try and make their properties a little more accessible to visitors and even the postie? I would say that this is perfect common sense. We've done the same with our drive and so far, it hasn't blown away. As it is now frozen solid I think it will melt before it blows away.

Hope you find the Royal Mail link helpful - if you scroll down the page you can pick the area you live in for more up to date advice and they have been good in keeping these pages updated.

I didn't see the postie come down our street today, but up until now he has been coming down. Our street is thick in snow and has been for the last 3 weeks. Our car has been stuck on the drive for a week, because we can't get it out of the street. The post van has been coming, but not in the street, he parks at the top and walks down. I get the bus in to work, don't find it an excuse to take a day off, as some do, just because of the weather. If the buses are running, you have no excuse not to get into work, that's my thoughts anyway. Two children has been off school for the last 3 days, because their schools have been closed due to the bad weather. I usually love the snow, but had enough of it now.

really, and no other organisations/companies have struggled?

I was speaking to some couriers the other day and they have explained how bad the snow is.

One day, one of their drivers had an accident in the van and is now in intensive care.

The next day, they all turned up to work to deliver parcels but not one lorry had managed to reach the depot. Not one, so they had absolutely nothing to deliver. One of the lorries had jacknifed on the way as well.

    To OP:

For the RM, not seeing the postie in your street could well be that they have no letters for your street getting through to the depot. The snow affects your post not just in your street, but right back to the sender.

Have you popped into the sorting office that is so convenient to you to pass on your complaints in person? I'm sure there will be someone there who will provide you with the information you require. And I wouldn't right off the whole of Scotland as not affecting you as many Government call centres are based here along with lots of big companies, Tesco and Marks to name two.

Good points but I don't have dealings with any Govt call centres nor do I shop at M&S and have never had the need to call Tescos. But thanks for the information.

Yes I have been to my local sorting office and only got the brushoff with no chance to see or even talk to any managers. They just constantly reiterate the same old same old and even are still blaming postal delays on strikes that only hit this office for a couple of days and ended nationawide several months ago.

My flatmate has spoken to them several times on the phone and assuming they are not liars that they have sent the letters to him when they tell him they have,. As it is vital to his living situation at the moment he does not let things lie as he needs these letters to sort his life, living situation, dealings with certain departments and finances.

FYI I hardly class delivering post on clear pavements risking life and limb. I will revise this when I hear of a local postie dropping dead delivering post.

You don't get it now and I suspect you never will
Your comments are ignorant as I suspect are you

On one hand they are skiving lazy no goods etc.. now suddenly they are pillars of society that you have deep admiration for make you bloody mind up or just stick to your knitting you daft old bint

Thank you for your kind but inaccurate comments. I never said all posties were skiving lazy no goods. You tend to overreact and put words into peoples mouths here. I said that some people yes and yes folks it does happen are using the snow as an excuse to slack off. Also said that there is no good reason that our posties are not delivering. This is NOT contradicting the fact that I have personal experience as do some on here and some on this thread of very dedicated postal workers, milkmen etc . One does NOT preclude the other. (oh sorry I am meant to be ignorant and not understand big words. If you dont know what it means get someone to look it up for you)

I don't knit - not that there is anything wrong with that. And am very glad to know that you class someone in their early 30s as being old. I will apply for my pension and Zimmer frame in the morning.:D How old are you btw? I suspect old enough to know better than to post in this manner.

Edit I see from your history of posts that you have a 21 year old daughter so am willing to bet you are considerably older than me. Shall I apply on your behalf too or is it just me thats old and you that is youthful? LMFAO

If they are so important can not you pick them up from the sorting office. You said you have been up there, did you ask for them? Surely if they had them they could get them for you.

heres a little eye opener for you
in my office we have gone through all of RM's changes
my own duty and many more are too long.management wont admit it but the times required speak for themselves

so i go in at my start time(Saturday is an earlier start and only a 7.5 hour day)
make it known to the manager that i need to be on the street @X time to allow me to complete my duty
told it will be fine, also reminded i must take my 20 minute break before going out or i lose the right to take it
so by the time the mail is up i am up and ready as one of the first in the office
i then go and get my special deliveries, tracked and redleliveries.
i then go for my 20 minute break
go and see the manager as to what i am meant to do (it is now 10 minutes past the time i said i needed to be on the street and its a 20 minute drive there)
so rather than getting out 'early' and delivering everything i am instructed ot pull out all letters except 1st class, stamped and dated
all the mail i spent the morning putting up is now dumped in 5 trays
theres modernisation in action.nothing to do with weather but this is what you are up against
following my recommendation would have got everything delivered
now tomorrow i wont have time to deliver that mail plus Mondays mail so yet more will be left
continue this all week and then have the same issues next Saturday

OMG you stalking me !!!!! trawling through my posts you had to of read all my posts for last 6-8 weeks to get that info what a weirdo
Good points but I don't have dealings with any Govt call centres nor do I shop at M&S and have never had the need to call Tescos. But thanks for the information.

    Another ignorant comment

These things and others that you dismiss have been given as examples they are not assuming they apply to you but encouraging you to search your "local" brain and try real hard to understand the situation is a bigger picture and a bigger world.
You say wars & poor weather do not affect you...Who finances these wars & rescue efforts hmmm tax payers so if you say I don't pay tax i'm on benefits well guess what tax payers contribute to them too

Of course events in this country & outside affect you and national & local funding affecting all local resources and council tax among other things and if you can't understand that I feel truly sorry for you
And why are you worrying about your lodgers post, if that is all you have to worry about in life late post thats is not yours and missing films most people on this site would envy you
The reason I assumed you were old... because your attitude is so outdated
So your not old I apologise but you are ignorant

You also neglected to say that they had arrived already !!! these important discs

    Friday

    1. 3 Lovefilm discs arriving after waiting all week - Bell Book & Candle,Ice Age 3 and The Damned United.

Anyway you are obviously not too bright so I shall not be writing on this topic again its like hitting your head on a brick wall END OF !
