I am a working mother of 3 with an 11, 8 and 3 yr old. I work at my local jobcentre so i have an understanding of all these schemes and extras you can get when on benefit. I also know that financially i would be better off on benefit. With child ben, tax credits, income support, free school meals and housing benefit etc i would have a larger income than i have now. I miss out on this scheme as i receive working tax credit, however my income is actually less than some people on benefit.
I help people who genuinely need it which is a job i enjoy and get satisfaction from, unfortunately i also see people who are milking the system and getting everything they can out of it.
I DO NOT begrudge people who are genuinely in need of these resources, ive been on benefit and personally would never want to return to it but its a sad fact that sometimes it does not pay to work. My income would in fact meet the criteria but as working tax credit is part of that i cant get the free laptop which would benefit my children immensely.
Its a very sad fact that i have to work and be away from my children yet there are no schemes in place for people like me, a little bit of help would go a long way.0 -
A better wage might help debmck too0

Im a single mother of 3 teenagers and ive worked full time for the past 8 years, i was made redundant in december, so yes i will be applying for this, ive struggled for 8 years on my wages and tax credits so i wont feel guilty about applying.  :dance:0

It certainly would! lol0

why is it that people who get work and get working tax credits do not qualify even if there income is still less than the £16,000 odd that you are aloud to get to qualify does anyone know?0
-
Like i said i do not begrudge anyone who genuinely needs the extra help, i would be applying too if i was entitled to it. Its just frustrating sometimes that the government dont look at struggling low income working families too0
-
oops, i do miss out under as my income does just tip over the 16,000 mark but not by much
not enough to make it worth my while anyway lol

Calm down everyone!
Llike living in wales, you don;t get a free laptop, but you won;t be complaining when you get your prescription for free.
And in scotland, you don;t get the laptop, but when you r lad is old enough, he can go to uni without paying thousands in tuition fees.
Anything like this for Northern Ireland (where we pay prescription and uni fees!!)?Norn Iron Club Member No 1270 -
Does anybody know of anything similar for people who live in Scotland. I would qualify if I lived in England and I have a 16 year old still in full time education and could really use some extra help
Thank you
It is only for school years 3-9 so your child wouldn't qualify even if you were in England.
On the subject of England, I think it's actually quite refreshing to see something good apply to us for once!
I think this is a good scheme tbh but, like free school meals, it does miss low income families who work and claim wtc (unless you live in Scotland ).
Saying that though, I imagine anyone too proud to claim benefits (because they want to instill a strong work ethic in their children and teach them they must work for the things they need) would refuse this state handout anyway...? :rolleyes:0
