I think they are bitter tbh, no other reason for their post.

Oh I am not bitter as it doesn't affect me in any way my point is that it should be available to all those who are entitled to it, not just one part of the UK

I have read a good part of this thread and there seems to be a number of teething problems but also a lot of ungratefulness. You should thank your lucky stars that there is such a scheme for England, there are many others in the rest of the United Kingdom who would only be too glad to have the opportunity that has been aforded to yourselves.

It's swings and roundabouts though, isn't it? In other parts of the UK,prescriptions are free, certain cancer drugs and other medication are more readily available (my aunt in Shropshire gets a certain medication for her retinal disease that her sister in sounthend has been refused, her sight has stabilised, her sisters has deteriorated to the point she is virtually blind),education is better in some areas than others, and in Scotland it is far cheaper to go to Uni than in England.

It is not being ungrateful to become frustrated at the system or to critisise something that could have been done better. I am grateful for the system but frustrated that the timescale has gone haywire and I couldn't get a simple answer to a simple question as the person on the 'phone had such poor command of the English language. They knew how popular this programme would be and shouldn't have been caught like this with 'backlogs' imo. I think it should have been unecessary for those of us on Income support to have to provide CB and IS letters when they have all of that info in their computers in the first place-it just seems a very protracted, drawn out and work-force heavy way of administering this grant to me.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

Hi - I received my card this morning but haven't yet had the award entitlement letter. I phoned Home Access and they said it's on its way. Anyone else had this problem?

I just applied for the computer but no internet so have been given up to £400. Hoever, does anyone know if there's some flexibility in Comet, for example, to choose your own laptop up to the £400 grant?

I would prefer less software and perhaps a bit more RAM, if possible, than is currently being offered on the standard packages.

    Thanks for your help :)

There is no flexibility - the retailers offer you Home Access Packages - take them or leave them you cannot pick and choose from other things in the store - only what is in the Home Access package

As said, lots feel that way about prescriptions, or uni fees etc.

I actually think it's refreshing to see England benefit for once!
  • Has anyone had problems with the retailers? Got the grant through within 14 days. Spent a while considering diff options and went for one that has also learning software (the only retailer with this). When you order, no delivery time is given although asumed would be 24 hrs as the rest, no updated given so emailed them also tried ringing was told someone would call back. Told 10 days so should be delivered by 24 feb (ordered 11th). Nothng came, tried ringing was told to give until friday. Have been trying since 11.30 to get hold of someone, put on hold transfered and not got to speak to anyone, now when eventually have done was told oh they'd have to check and ring me back. to me this company are taking the mick and do they actually supply anyway or just con? I'm not happy now what happens if there is somethng wrong and have to get tech help. No not happy and think the grant place should take these off the list.

  • Well emailed and will follow up with letter to the home access grant place, they do a great job getting things sorted fast and this company are taking the mick and money from people. I hope others who have had probs will do the same and do not buy from them
  • oh dear not filling me with confidance, i also ordred from them for anyone wanting to beware homeaccesscomputers.com or Bli education there doesnt seem to be any communication with theses ppl unless there taking your money, i ordred from them on the 17th feb and told 10 working days which i admit i havent reached the 10 working days yet, but i have tried calling and been told they will ring me back as the number can only take orders, so it seems there happy to keep taking orders but not doing anything about the people whos money they have already taken, now im the first to admit yes they do provide 99% of the money but ive still put £20 and i should still be treated like a full paying customer, and £20 is alot out of my weekly budget, i certainely cant afford to just throw it away, i just have the same concerns as ''alfchild'' in thinking if they cant even give a straight answer on delivery how are they going to be able to deliver a tech support service?
  • Can someone please tell me who is the best to order from with getting them out to people? and who are the ones to keep away from?
