  • My famly live in Oldham an we got a free laptop for our nephew. It was bought using our grant card which came in the post. Having the laptop has really helped my nephew who is doing better in school now with his learnign. We got ours locally from Positive who have been helpful with a few issues we had when it wasn workin. We recommend the Home Access scheme its really changed his computer skills.
  • It is school years 3-9 not ages

its 'bitterment' of the hard working having to swollow yet again the il's of the freebie society for the can't be bothered, can't work, won't work, why should I work I'm better off on benefits likes.

Why shouldn't we complain....my benefit receiving neighbours son got an Xbox for christmas his sister got a Wii, my son got a pair of trainers because he had holes in his others and some Jeans and underpants because that's all I could afford.

We are just fed-up of supporting other peoples kids that's all.

And I suppose you know that they paid cash for them?

Probably not, most likely they would have got them from the likes of littlewoods or bright house at twice the normal retail price.

Your not supporting other peoples kids, your tax doesn't even support your kid / kids, the amount of tax you pay is a drop in the ocean compared to what it costs to put your kid through school, and subsidise all the services you use, so in effect your also a benefit scrounger, just like those you despise.

But hey, people claiming benefits are an easy target for ignorant people like you to vent their frustrations at.

Perhaps people shouldn't 'purchase' things they can't afford.:undecided (Or perhaps they should have bought a laptop instead!!)

What about the children in Scotland?
What about the children in N Ireland?
I read all the comments on here with interest. I have worked on this grant scheme and I wanted to clear up some confusion.
    1. Wales, Scotland & N.Ireland do not qualify and there are no plans to roll out the scheme in these areas. The governments in these countries have spent money in other areas. It is an English programme.

I think it is a really good idea although I also find it slightly unfair that I wont qualify even though my income is lower than the amount stated, because I work full time and receive working tax credits (even taking these into account my income is still lower than the stated amount). I'm a single parent and can not afford to buy one so guess my children will go without yet again and be the ones having to work twice as hard due to the governments ignorance.

Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!
  • What the hell is this country coming to. if you sit on you a-s all day you get free laptops.Work all your life and get sh-t on.
We should go back in time, if you can't afford it you don't have it.

Totally agree, this does seem very unfair. Use of a computer and the Internet has become essential and even a right, but use of a personal computer is a different subject. It is probably safe to assume people posting on this forum are already using a family owned pc. Could you not share?
The cost of this to the taxpayer will be huge. If parents feel it necessary to provide a personal pc for their child, then do what every other parent must do, save and buy one, even second hand. You do not need a fancy brand new laptop for word processing and internet browsing. Are the days of using the school computers in lunchtime and afterschool for homework gone?
But of course releasing this news to people a few months before election time are totally unrelated im sure.
    Enjoy your laptops.
