We should go back in time, if you can't afford it you don't have it.

I was jst abit confused because l was under the impression it was for those who did not have a pc in the house at all!!! One way this could be checked out is to see if theres a landline connection maybe. Ps by the way l WOULD be entitled to one for my child BUT we have a pc in the house so l dont think its right to claim one!
  • Yes silly me, its totally our fault my hubby got made redundant 1 month before christmas, so really we should just not feed our kids!! seems that would make most of you with your stereotypical views would be happier that way, you know if we don't claim anything then you can all feel better that your working but getting nothing handed out..
My husband has been in work all his life so has not been living off you (ever so better than us) tax payers!! and really we were never so god damed high and mighty that we ever sat in judgement of those in need of help.
I have 4 children and have applied for the grant, why should my children miss out because of circumstance..? I have a pc in the living room but with all 4 of them running around and me starting to child mind later in the year I think the childeren would find their homework easier to do in the peace and quiet of their rooms.
So up yours all of u sitting in judgement, god forbid you ever need to claim anything!!!

    I totally agree!

I haven't had time to read the whole thread this evening, but I am a newcomer to this one...

What the hell???!! There was an old couple who perished to death this week in their own home... what is that about... probably worked all their lives and get no help when they and their neighbours asked for it!!!!

The government want to hand out free laptops and internet to people!??

People I know already have flaming laptops from the benefits and tax credits they already receive!!

I have every sympathy for people who have worked and have been made redundant etc etc... they are the ones that deserve to get these privileges for their children.... but for those that churn out 6 or 10 kids when they claim £100's of benefits each week and just live off what the rest of us pay in tax etc..they are the ones that will benefit from this.. probably get their freebie and stick it straight on ebay from their own laptop... disgraceful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone see that school (Blackburn or Bolton I think it was) a few weeks ago that had kitted out every pupil with an Ipod Touch cause it was better for their education????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the mind boggles........ this country is going down the pan!!!
  • There are so many people on here who obviously know what's best for everyone. I really think you should become politicians yourselves and set the world to rights, as you clearly have all the answers.

Meanwhile, this scheme will benefit some of the poorest in society, the majority of whom are not at the bottom of the income pile by choice. Yes, there will be some scroungers taking advantage like there always is, but generalising this to apply to anyone whose circumstances are different to yours does you no credit, nor does it aid the people who really are in need of assistance.

Yes, this scheme misses out some people on low incomes or in other locations. That's not to say that the net won't be widened later, like it was from the pilot scheme. Some useful feedback if the scheme has just missed you is far more likely to be of future benefit than continual whinging from people who have clearly never been at the bottom of the pile. If you had ever experienced true poverty then you would have more sympathy for any scheme intended to benefit such people, even if you feel the money might have been better spent on fuel grants, computers in libraries (for those that can get to them) or whatever.

Please stop taking your bitterness out on fellow money savers who are on this site for the same reason as you - to try and make what income they have go a little bit further.

But, surely they are alienating as many voters as they are attracting?

Just look at this thread for evidence of that!

as someone has said before, its the old divide and conquer technique.
there's an election coming up- instead of attacking those unfortunate enough to be eligible for the scheme with poorly informed generalisations , people should consider making a difference by using their right to vote (freely available to all)

I wonder when they will be giving out free mobiles with a 12 month contract:eek:

Parents want schools to text about child's progress

Parents would like more feedback from schools about how their children are performing in the classroom. According to a survey by Becta, the Government's education technology agency, over two-thirds of parents would like schools to use technologies such as text messaging and the internet to communicate with them more frequently. Currently, only 8% of parents surveyed are kept informed using these methods.
With busy working lives, many parents are now asking that schools adopt a similar approach to banks (74% of parents said they monitored their bank balance by phone or online at least once a month) and mobile phone companies (67% of parents received information from their mobile phone provider once a month or more frequently). These providers already update their customers via the internet and through text messaging
