i worked up till last friday, as i was only under contract.

i cant get 'any job' as i seem to be overqualified and in my line of work there arent many permanent parttime jobs (30 hours).

I would love to be in permanent work and buy my kids everything.

my hubby died 4 yrs ago and even when i work i find it difficult to pay for everything, so this will help me enourmously as my daughter is due to go to high school this year and she will need to use a computer. at the moment it is difficult to find the time for me and 2 kids to use the computer when we want.

I know it is not fair that a lot of ppl cannot get this, and to be honest i wouldnt have qualified last week. but i do now and feel that those having a go at people that do not work are lucky that they have got work. i know you say kids will be proud of parents who work, but just trying to find work makes my kids proud of me. these are difficult times and why shouldnt we take what we can get. Most people would given half the chance whatever their circumstances.

Yes silly me, its totally our fault my hubby got made redundant 1 month before christmas, so really we should just not feed our kids!! seems that would make most of you with your stereotypical views would be happier that way, you know if we don't claim anything then you can all feel better that your working but getting nothing handed out..
My husband has been in work all his life so has not been living off you (ever so better than us) tax payers!! and really we were never so god damed high and mighty that we ever sat in judgement of those in need of help.
I have 4 children and have applied for the grant, why should my children miss out because of circumstance..? I have a pc in the living room but with all 4 of them running around and me starting to child mind later in the year I think the childeren would find their homework easier to do in the peace and quiet of their rooms.
So up yours all of u sitting in judgement, god forbid you ever need to claim anything!!!

Can you tell why you think you should be entitled to this grant, you already have a computer? There are only 270,000 grants and they should be going to children who don't have computers, that is the whole point of this scheme to give under privileged children a chance to improve there education and beat the benefits cycle by having access to a computer with internet access, you already have this, surely you wouldn't want to deprive another family of a computer because you'd like another computer upstairs aswell as downstairs. Just an idea......why not move your computer upstairs?

I think this scheme is a good idea, as long as it goes to the children that really need it.

Hi - my form only took a couple of days to arrive!!!
I can see everyone's point on this forum - both sides - but i was under the impression that it was supposed to be a 'helpful' site/ forum, not a moaning, !!!!!y, have a go at everyone and moan about your lives forum???
Think the forum would be more useful if people that have had experience of the scheme could comment - esp without being judged!

I think you may have not understood the reason why this scheme has aggravated people.
The benefits system (or income support) is just that. A support of income to help those who require it to provide essential items required for a healthy acceptable life, a (warm) roof over heads, food, water, clothing.
Nobody is 'sitting in judgement' of handing out help where needed.

A Free laptop and 1 years net subsciption is hard to swollow for people as these can be seen as not essential to life (Cue the essential to education speech.) and many people just scrape by paying for these services out of their own pocket.

The form says your child has had to have been receiving free school meals for 4 weeks to qualify for the home access grant.

the scheme is for children in school years 3 to 9. But children in care can apply if they are in school years 1 to 13. (so are we now going to have a similar rant about kids in care getting stuff given to them?)

The info talks of parents using the computer too for various purposes. So what happens if the parent needs assisitive technology and not the child?

In addition to your child benefit letter you need to provide proof of the benefit you are claiming. Both letters are to be originals, dated and less than a year old.
    .
if your child is receiving free school meal you only need to send in your child benefit letter which has to be less than 1 year old

if they are not on free school meal or only registered for them in the last term then you need to send additional proof of benefits being:
    job seekers allowance
    income support
    child tax credits
    income based employment support allowance
    pension credit
arc/sal (something about asylum seeker )
again all must be less than 1 yr old
