I am beginning to think this thread should be closed because of all the animosity on it!
A lot of us think that this is a bad idea for a lot of people - especially the people that have never done a stroke of work and have always lived off benefits - why should their kids have something that people that work hard cannot afford to buy their own kids.
There should be rules on this, and I would exclude people that have never done a stroke of work in their lives and use the kids mainly as a source of income (like those massive families you see in the paper demanding a bigger house as their right as they have so many kids and live on "benefits alone").
I still think that they should have to prove that the computers are still being used BY THE CHILDREN, never on gambling or !!!!!! sites (or worse), and have not been sold on. If the laptops are no longer in the household then the FULL COST of the laptop should be deducted from benefits over whatever period of time thought appropriate.
Mind you, I would also stop people on benefits from buying cigarettes - as I told someone on the school gate many years ago who was chain smoking and complaining that the council wouldn't give them enough money to buy school uniform!
I agree with this scheme - but only for genuinely disadvantaged people, not those who chose benefits as a lifestyle. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Hi there everyone..
Thought I would document my experience here for all to see. Will update as soon as things start to happen.
I am eligable for the scheme and requested an application via telephone. They said 7-10 days for the application to arrive so lets see how long it takes
Thanks all

I can see where you are coming from but how would you police something like that?
I was made redundent a year ago and my partner is disabled and has just been diagnosed with PTSD... I hate it.. I feel everyone looks down on me because I live in a council house and claim benefit. I have even lost friends since losing my job. we have been trying to scrape together the money to get my daughter her first computer as we had done with our eldest years ago and we were failing.
This scheme is wonderful for those who truely need help... I think anyone that has kids just to get benefit would be better off getting a job because boy oh boy work was soooo much easier than being a full time housewife, nanny, cook heheh..

Has anyone had dealings with DA computers? The whole process of applying for and receiving the payment card took exactly 4 weeks. I ordered the computer on the day the card came and DA told me it will take a week to deliver. I noticed that some of the companies used by the scheme say next day delivery so wondered if a week to deliver sounded right.
We are very much looking forward to receiving the computer and are very grateful for it, we can now stop having to borrow my parents laptop!0 -
We first appled about the middle of February and got the barclaycard on the 6th May.We ordered from XMA the same day because it had a free printer with it.and many people had next day delivery. As we had to wait so long for the barclaycard but XMA took a very loooooooong time to deliver as well.We got the samsung r519 on the 18th of May.all in all it took about three months so some people have been very lucky to get sorted in around 4 weeks. ps my son is very happy with his laptop.0

first of all, please don't flame me if this is a really stupid question, I know next to nothing about laptops and getting all confused!
ok, so we got the r519 through Positive and within two weeks we (or should I say my kids!) have managed to completely break the dongle! Long story but it was completely accidental, since initial problem (bent way out of shape and plastic bit snapped), it has got worse and now doesn't work at all!
Is there any hope this could be replaced? (I know it sounds dozy but I feel too stupid and embarrassed to ring them up and ask, not even sure if it would be 3 or Positive?)
read the 3 warranty and that looks like they wouldn't so.......any tips on where to get a cheap dongle?0
