In saying they are free, i mean free to the person getting it - in other words, they don't pay for it meaning they get it free. Now i'm sure if your friend did qualify you wouldn't be on this thread saying all this ;). I have 2 daughters who are 9 and 12, my 9 year old doesn't use it, my 12 year old uses it for school. I agree with you on the age thing, i don't believe children of primary school age need them, but when they hit secondary school where alot of homework is research, it is needed. Our library is useless when it comes to the internet and because so many people use them, you never get time on them. And i do resent you saying these laptops will be sold on, i know a few people who have got them and use them, no one i know has sold any on.
    Well said!

I know a few people, family and friends who have got a laptop through this scheme and no one has sold them on, they have been a great help to the children in the family.

Unfortunately I know of a few who have sold these laptops to pay for fags - I don't mind the secondary school kids getting them, but the ones for the younger kids seem to be less than necessary and I have heard of this being abused by the parents. I know a lot of people on this thread have found it really useful and for that I am glad, but standing outside the school with my mate on just one occasion listening to two chain smokers discussing how much they got for the laptops was enough to sicken me, they just treated it as another part of their benefits to spend on themselves.

I think anyone that has this should have to prove it is still in use by the child 6 months later, if not then the money should be taken off them. Sorry if it seems a bit harsh, but this just makes me cross.

After finding out about this scheme through my weekly email from MSE, I called up and applied for my little brother. He qualified and we have just received the card with the money topped up. Just waiting for the pin now then going to go get a new laptop :)

    Thank you MSE :)

if you order online, you don't need the pin :)

just a little tip if you are planning on using the card to buy a laptop online you don't need the pin just the card.

Also have a look at some of the deals already posted on this thread, you can get a laptop, bag and mouse plus extra memory or a printer from some suppliers.

oops, should really read on before i reply! lol

Thanks for that I'll dig the paperwork out and double check.

Still doesn't distract from the fact that Home Access are useless.

Having now had to have a Sales Director from XMA and Becta involved, we received a full refund from XMA for our faulty Samsung and having been messed around by their wrong advertising.

The warranty information has now been changed on their site and we are buying our replacement from somewhere else.

    Goodbye XMA and good riddance.

If you know of quite a few, which amazes me, that have sold the laptops on, then you should report them.
Allowing people to get away with abusing the system is almost like you agree with what they are doing.

I know of a few, not "quite a few". Unfortunately I do not know their names. I have mentioned it to the school but they are reluctant to give any info or do anything about it as they are trying to avoid trouble with these parents.

Hope this helps
