I think everyone is different. We are spending a total of about £11000 on our wedding.

Very helpful to the OP

I think everyone is different. We are spending a total of about £11000 on our wedding.

TBH, I wouldn't spend that amount, whether we were paying ourselves or being subsidised by others - our self-funded budget is £5k and we intend sticking to it. We have other equally important things to save for, like essential maintenance to our house and to cover the shortfall in our endowment policy when the mortgage is paid off in 5 years.
  • Shall ignore the above message as it also wasn't very helpful! Sorry for joining in with a chat and thanks for your hostility! 0_0
Anyway, like I say, I guess everyone is different and it depends on what parts of the day are important to you as to where you spend the greatest amounts. About £4000 of that budget is going on our honeymoon as I've never been abroad before.
I couldn't post links on my last post but have you had a read through this:
http://www.lowbudgetwedding.com/ebook/ It covers a lot of things. There's alot of tips if you do a general googlesearch as well.
    Good luck!
Have you bought a wedding planner as well? Around a tenner on Amazon or eBay and you can make sure you don't forget anything as the little things really add up. You can always compile your own as well.
  • There are some beautiful wedding dresses on ebay! £69-£99 and they are lovely! all handmade, with excellent reviews. Just budget, make some things yourself.
    Turn £100.00 into £1000.00
Decided to start off with things in house, as i have no money!
    Currently £38.70/£1000 :T

Joined weight loss challege, hoping to lose 14lb .. currently 1lb/14lb :rotfl:

Just seems an odd thing to post on a thread that's asking if others have organised a wedding for less than £5k....
  • Like I said, I did have a link to post but wasn't allowed at that point, I was just joining in with a conversation, could we get back to the original subject or?

You can ignore it but it won't go away :p
Everyone is different but the OP want a wedding less than £5000 so I really don't understand why you felt you had to post that yours was cost £11000 it could have been percieved as bragging as there were no helpful hints or tips in that post.

As I have repiled before our wedding will be under £5000, we are having everything we want, best advice to OP is to hunt for bargains and haggle, haggle, haggle. I saved £1600 on my dress :D

Gee, I got married in 1971, cost us 32 pounds for reception. I did get married in the off licence, sorry, registry office though.

    ... I saved £1600 on my dress :D

    Grrr...you saved more than me....I only saved £900 :D

And I just got my wedding car sorted for free! The husband of a close colleague in work has offered to drive me & my bridesmaid to the venue, we already have transport sorted for the trip from venue to reception ;)
  • Wasn't bragging, didn't think it was that much, and it's been pure saving for the last year and up until the wedding to be able to do it, most people I know who have got married spent more than that tbh, but nevermind that now, like I said, not here to argue about posts!
How'd you save that much? The dress I want is £629 but to be honest my whole budget for dress, shoes, tiara, veil is £700 so I won't be getting it. My shoes will probably only cost about £20 though cos I'm so tall I'll only be wearing flats.
