Our wedding plus honeymoon budget is just 2.1k!
1k for honeymoon, spending money, holiday clothes etc as well as passports(I''ve never been abroad, fiance hasn't since he was a kid.). Don't know where we're going yet, but hoping to get a cheap self-catering deal somewhere in Europe.
The other 1k is for our wedding- I had £200 budgeted for my dress, hair and shoes but my mum is very kindly said she's going to pay for these for me so it's only going to be 1.9k now that we'll need to save(!) and £80 for fiance's suit or kilt hire. Ring budget £200. I'm doing my own nails(glue ons from poundland, they'll be off right after the meal!) and makeup. We're just having a small wedding with 12-13 coming, in a registry office on a weekday followed by a meal, I'm making my own invites and favours, and we're going to use ordinary taxis for transport.Present yourself, press your clothes, comb your hair, clock in
You just cant win just cant win... the things you own, own you0 -
We're challenging ourselves to reduce to £5,000 - we're currently at £6,000 but could stretch to £7k. We want to put the 'savings' to the budget towards a honeymoonDon't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

We are planning to keep our wedding to £5k, but hope to have maybe a £1k buffer in case of emergencies.
We are intending to have a humanist ceremony (legal in Scotland), sit down meal for 30, evening reception for another 50 odd, and want to include everything in that price. I will making my own invites, placecards, order of service etc, my mums friends daughter who is a photography student will be taking the pics so wont cost as much, friend is doing make up, friend of friend doing hair, I am only having to adult bridemaids and planning to get their dresses in the sale. We are not having favours, but instead we plan to have chocs in the rooms of people that are staying at the venue as a wee treat, and we will be making table centrepieces ourselves, and sourcing stuff from ebay/etsy etc. I am really excited about the 'homemade' aspect of a lot of it, will make it quite special as my mum is going to help, so will be quite a 'bonding' thing as well!
Oh and I am going to start sugarcraft classes after the summer so I can decorate the M&S cake!0 -
Yes! Our wedding should be coming in at less than 5k.
We are paying £650 for the venue all day. Its small lovely place for a maximum of 40guests
£496 for the registrar fees.
£200 on alcohol (venue has wedding license but doesn't have drinks license!! so having to get this ourselves, making it free bar for our guests!)
£900 (approx) for caterers (meal after wedding, buffet in evening, plus staff - who will also serve 'bar' drinks in evening)
£900 on my dress (very over budget, Ooooops!)
£??? for grooms suit (i'm leaving to him to sort .... so far he hasn't!)
£385 for Jukebox for music all day & evening entertainment
£350 for photographer (for just him taking pics. Groom is keen photography so is going to do all post-prod work himself and then we fund album seperatly later)
My friend is making the cake as a present. My sister is making favours.
The equestrian centre I volunteer as a jump-judge at, are giving us a case of wine for the wedding
We made the Save-the-dates ourselves on PC. Invites will be the same.
We aren't having any bridesmaids/best men/ushers etc - so don't have to pay for their outfits.
We're not fussed about flowers so having a silk bouquet (£~30) and 2 silk buttonholes for groom & my Dad
We also are saving Tesco vouchers like crazy for Goldsmiths for the rings but may have to top up with cash.=====================================
MSE fan ... so that I can afford Sam, my horse :j
Married - 25th Sept 2010
Baby girl born July 2011, 9lb10oz, homebirth @ 15days overdue!
Baby boy due christmas day 2013, born 4 days late (phew), 8lb8oz, another homebirth0 -
So far its looking like our overall cost is going to be under 2.5k.
Getting married at the town hall, registrar fees are £80
My dress was £110 from unique vintage
Yet to find the grooms suit, but budgeted around £100 for that aswell
Bridesmaids dresses were from Vivienne of Holloway and £89 each
Shoes - Vivienne Westwood Ladydragon ones which I got in the sale for £39
My auntie is making my veil (birdcage one)
Evening reception, room hire is free and buffet for 80 people at £6 a head
Friends are DJing for free
Photography is being done by a friend for free, and we're gonna set up our own DIY photobooth at the reception with my SLR and a remote
Cupcake tower is gonna be £160
We're just getting cheap Argos wedding rings, I'm not bothered about having something mega expensive.
£500 for the afternoon meal me and my OH are treating our families to at Malmaison, three courses plus a glass of wine.
£300 hire of the london routemaster bus
Flowers my nana is doing for free
Hair & Make-up my sister is doing for free
I've ordered materials to make Save the Dates, Invitations and all other paper goods from the interent, that came to £40
Then just gonna hunt in sales and bargain places for other bits and pieces we might need like table decorations etc..
We're asking for donations towards a honeymoon fund instead of gifts, and are looking towards going to Australia with it, staying with family in Perth for a bit, then getting internal flights and hostelling/backpacking across Northern Aus.. we're pretty happy travellers, and its something we've both wanted to do for a while.
I still think even £2,500 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on just one day.. but this is us trying to moneysave as much as possible, sometimes its unavoidable having to pay inflated prices simply because the word 'wedding' is mentionedtrying to become a moneysaving student0 -
hi Sparkle Witch, my new fiance :rotfl::rotfl:have decided to get married abroad and sorrento was one of our options. Would you be able to send me more details on how you managed to do yours for that price!!
many thanks
Shelly!
Hi Shelly
We booked through Thomsons, for a week in Sorrento with the wedding package on top. The way we have kept the cost down is to cut down on all the 'extras', flowers are included in the package as is a small cake. All we are having is transport to The Cloisters, a mandolin player and a few extra corsages for guests. We are then having cocktails and canapes straight after (we are paying for) and in the evening meeting up for a meal which everyone will pay for themselves. We are only having 10 guests which has helped keep the cost down and we arent worried about having a photographer as my friend is good with a camera. My friends are going to help with my make up and hair and my dress was £120 from DebenhamsMy shoes I got in the sale for £20 and the rings came to less than £100
The whole reason we are getting married in Italy is because we didnt want a big fuss and we loved Sorrento when we visited last year.
Let me know if you decide to go for it :T:smileyheaGot married in beautiful Sorrento 11th May 2010:smileyhea0
