Sally. Have read all these posts from some very helpful people on here.I just cannot get my head around...what was his motive? Getting to know his children again? Surely he would know where this would lead especially knowing now that your 'useless' Solicitor has been in contact with him, the repercussions regarding his 'new family' and the legality of this in that Country?
Why would he willingly put 'neck in a noose'?
Also would he not query why he has new friends on Facebook from the UK?
I think the man is either very clever, feeding information to these people for his own ends or he is incredibly stupid and is living in a 'balloon'.
Either way, I am sorry that you and your children have had to bear the brunt of his selfish actions.
Firstly, I would find yourself a decent Solicitor and sack the one you have ,then when she present her bill, contact her boss and ask for it to be reduced because of her obvious incompetence(I did this with mine) and got a big reduction.
I too am a believer in Karma, you will come good in the end just keep strong for you all and take care. You live..You learn.:)0 -
Thankyou Renegade
He probably isn't the brightest of people, so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't realise the trouble he could be getting himself in, living in Middle East.
Don't worry, the "friend" on Facebook isn't originally from the UK, this friend is the same natonality as him - (long story)
I hope you're right about the karma, thanks for taking the time to post, Renegade. And many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to post with the helpful information and links on this thread, they're all very much appreciated.

Hi Everyone
As yet, I've not heard back from "friend", but I have had an email from my less than helpful lawyer. This is what she says:
I have continued my attempts to try to locate the funds which remained after the sale of ****. I have now been advised by O**** ***** that the surplus funds in the sum of £**** were sent to the sheriff court on the **** 2010, as the monies could not be distributed to yourself and Mr ******* because he could not be located.
I have spoken to the court who said that in order for the funds to be released initially we need to write to the court setting out the circumstances and requesting a refund of the monies. The court require certificates of compliance for both parties indicating that you have complied with all your obligations to the Inland Revenue and do not owe any funds to them. A certificate may be obtained by writing to HM Revenue and Customs. I have sent a letter in relation to you and I understand that the certificate should be sent out to you direct so I should be obliged if you would let me have this when it arrives.
Clearly the difficulty is with regard to Mr ******, and unless he provides a written letter of authority enabling me to obtain the information from HM Revenue and Customs about him we will have reached a stumbling block. I am afraid that HM Revenue and Customs said that they would not accept an email from him and it would have to be an original letter signed by Mr ****** which I think is likely to be difficult to obtain.
It may be possible to apply to court for your half share of the funds to be released to you and for a claim to be made against Mr *******'s half share in respect of arrears of maintenance under the order that was made some time ago. I have attempted to contact the solicitor who acted for you at ****** in ******** but ***** has now left the practice and the person who has taken over his work, *******, is on holiday until the *******. I would like to discuss with her the best way forward as if the procedure to apply for the payment of arrears of maintenance from Mr ******** half share of the proceeds of the property is not too complicated this is likely to be a better option. I will be on holiday myself once ******* comes back to work and will return to work myself on the ********. I therefore propose to contact her that week to discuss the matter and then come back to you let you know how I think it would be best to approach the matter. I hope you are agreeable to this course of action.
So, that's the latest folks! lol - if she thinks I'm happy to accept only half the proceeds after waiting all these years, she can think again!

You go girl!
Mind you, the letter is quite helpful in indicating who's dealing with matters at the other solicitor, so I'd be tempted to find a rottweiler ready to act on your behalf before your current poodle is back from her holiday.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
LOL
Thanks Savvy-Sue, your comment made me laugh!

Hello Elantan
I'm tempted to do lots of things, including coming "out" and just letting him know exactly what I know about him and confronting him - however I thought I'd try holding it together and let the legal people try their hand at getting something from him first - lol.
I'm also concerned about karma - it might bounce back and hit me right where I wouldn't want it!
