Hi Sally, any update on what's happening? Thinking of you xx0

Hello Everyone
Long time no post! lol
Well, where do I start, eh? I had got to the stage where my lawyer was being a bit useless to be honest. She had come up with this idea that I could have a divorce on "Deemed Service" - which means because he had acknowledged her emails, it meant she could go to court with the papers. She'd also got his agreement that I could have his share of the £3200 which was due to us from the bank, after the marital home had been repossessed and sold on.
So, I sent off the documents she wanted in order for the court fee to be waived - ie- bank statements, pay slips etc and as far as I thought, it was a case of waiting to hear back from the court - that was last Xmas! I kept writing, telephoning, emailing the lawyer, but she didn't reply to me. Until a couple of months ago - she said due to the time that had lapsed the court had decided that the paperwork was out of date and that I'd need to re-submit all the documents again - I had already done this about 5 or 6 times!!! I can't tell you how p*****d off I was when I heard this, as it was obvious that she'd been sitting on them and done nothing about them!!! I have to confess I've not sent them off again, as I'm so sick of her.
As far as my ex goes, he's still on Facebook, and I've now found out his wife's name on there too. Not only that, but she's just given birth to a new baby girl!!!
I've got some fighting spirit back again and feel that I really, really need someone ruthless to fight in my corner for me, but unfortunately I just can't afford that right now.
Just thought I'd update you all, sorry not to have posted for a while.

Oh my goodness, Sally, just read this thread right through. What a dreadful man, and an unreliable solicitor (sorry to say, far too many of those around!! - both of them!!) I can't help or suggest anything - this is out of my experience, but you have my support - thinking about you and your kids :grouphug:
Actually I did think of something... if all else fails, take out a full page spread in the most important Dubai paper, put a big picture of him on it with a ''wanted' image as in wanted for desertion of wife and children, leaving them with no money, house, etc etc... you get the picture! Wonder how much business he would do then, and what his wife would make of it all??0 -
Thank you for taking the time to read and reply Caroline.

Well, after having searched around for some recommendations for some good alternative legal advice, I've decided to try the CAB again, not that they were any good whatsoever when I lived in Scotland, still maybe they might be better down here eh

Just read your thread (ah the joys of insomnia) In terms of REMO it applies to the resident country so his employer being US makes no odds unless he is a US citizien. Whilst the UAE doesnt do much in terms of maintenance or access they do take debt very seriously, if he owes you money and you lodge the debt with the Dubai debtors courts he will be in serious trouble, the general process is they lock you up and you fight it from the cells. I have used the threat of debt collectors to secure payments from wayward creditors in Dubai so if you have a provable debt you can engage a collection agency to go after him, if you google debt collection dubai you will get a lot of results, I spoke with GCS and they advised to make the threat first and then use them if that didnt work.0

Morning Ford Prefect
Thank you for that reply, it's much appreciated.
Do you know if I can do any of that without using a lawyer, or would I have to go back to my no good lawyer and get her on the case - or at least try to get her to do something again?

I certainly wouldnt go back to your old lawyer - you know she was out of her depth. I would think that the threat of owing money from when he first left you could be done by most solicitors, but maybe try to find one who specialises in overseas law? I'm sure Google will help with that one!0
