Do you know if I can do any of that without using a lawyer, or would I have to go back to my no good lawyer and get her on the case - or at least try to get her to do something again?

Hello again Sally! Sorry to hear it's not sorted yet, did you ever investigate contacting the Dubai authorities? If not then maybe now is the time (assuming he's still there).

    Hello Daska

    Thanks for posting again.

To be perfectly honest, I just got overwhelmed with it all (if that's the right word) and got so fed up with fighting. I've had a good rest now though and just feel that I shouldn't give in.

I'm just really struggling to find the right legal help.

time is not on your side because the kids are getting older. Go over to the Child support forum here and ask how to get a maintenance order in the local court.

If you know he is paid vis the US, go via REMO.

If you know he is no longer paid via there, let the arrears build up and send him a letter demanding the money and his signatures on all documents plus a proper financial settlement ( full disclosure of all assets world-wide) or you take debtors action against him in Dubai.

    Thank you RAS

How would I find out if he is still paid from US or not?

And how would I get action taken against him in Dubai please?

    Thanks,

I know the feeling well :wall:

I agree with the others about REMO, time to nail that donkey's behind. Having said that... how about consulting with a lawyer in Dubai? It should at least give you a clearer picture of what pressure you might be able to bring to bear. (The above link is from the British Embassy so hopefully the recommendations are decent lawyers :D)

Remo works for most US states and I believed from a previous message that you thoguht he was paid via the US? Check that link and find out if the State is included.

The important thing with REMO is that the debt starts fro the date of the court order in the UK, so you need to get that in place. Pronto.

mDubai is not in REMO but most Gulf States take a very dim view of children born out of wedlock and debts. So you have the capacity to make life very interesting for him if he carries on like this.

    Any idea where they "married".

Thank you again Daska and RAS

Unfortunately, I don't quite know where they did the deed, bt I could find out.

The date of the court order was Nov 2003 - so quite a long time ago eh!

  • Wow just read this and I amazed at the low lengths some people stoop to, just to avoid their responsibilities.
Good on you for coping even with someone like your (sort of) ex playing silly idiots.

I can't offer a lot of advice, but there is a forum of expats where everyone seems to know everyone...perhaps your ex may be there and you can find out more: Britishexpats.com /

It does seem a really small community so do watch out about giving too much info away as people *may* know him. Generally though, the ME bunch of 'forumites' would be horrified at someone behaving in this appalling way.
