That saltcod and chips looked good.
Hubby's been lusting after a deep fat fryer recently and when we saw the chips being cooked, he mentioned getting one again! Trouble is, I haven't really got room on the worktops and I don't think it would get used much.0 -

Good series, this - but does anyone else find it a bit ironic that it's called "Mums Know Best", when part of the reason Si and Dave are going around, dragging out these old-school recipes and passing them on is because plenty of people's Mums actually know b- all about cooking?
It is, after all, largely the generation featured on the show which let these traditional dishes die out in favour of tins, jars, packets and the delights of the freezer-cabinet......0 -
I was shocked that one of the ladies couldn't cook. She looked about the same age as me and although in the past, I have used convenience foods, I still cooked other meals from scratch. She didn't even know where the ingredients were in her own kitchen!0

I've just watched this online and was surprised to see Sad Cake... the one on the tv tho was more like an Eccles Cake as it contained all the currants inside and extra sugar. The Sad Cake my gran used to make was just leftover plain pastry with the currants mixed in.What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
