Hi Pink Twirl
Just send them back to the Chinese address and send it registered post. It cost me £15.00 to send mine back but I sent the proof of postage etc to my bank who refunded the money (including the postage that had originally been charged from the Chinese folk) so all I lost was £15.00 so not too bad in the grand scheme of things.
Hope you get on ok with your refund.0 -
my girlfriends hairdresser told her that basically, any ghd straighteners being sold for less than £90 are fake - there seems to be a lot of websites on google adwords selling ghd straighteners for around the £50 or £60 mark - which typically i bought thinking they were a bargain. I did return them, but it was to a company in china ghdhaironline, and got my money back but no postage so was over 20 quid down in the end, which bugged me. I ended up getting her fhi straighteners instead on her hairdressers advice, probably not as good as ghd, but i had already lost money lol.0

I have just noticed this thread and have to admit i have not read all the pages. However it appears people seem to take leave of their common sense when it comes to getting a 'deal' on a pair of ghd styling irons.
I have to admit I have a vested interest in that I own a hairdressing salon that does supply ghds both physically and online and have been doing for many years now.
ghd have gone to great lengths to eradicate the counterfeit websites and fake online traders, however a great many people still get ripped off as is unfortunately apparent from some of the posts.
I have compiled some general information which I hope will help you when choosing where to purchase your ghds.
I hope you find it useful.
Most of it is common sense but as I said earlier people sometimes take leave of that in order to save a few £££'s.
Counterfeits
Beware Counterfeit ghd websites
To be entirely sure that the ghd styler that you are purchasing is genuine, only purchase from approved websites and salons.
There is currently a large number of unauthorised web sites currently offering very low cost fake ghd stylers. These counterfeit stylers are not manufactured by ghd. Not only are these stylers fake, they are cheaply made and shipped from china, ghd do not manufacture or retail any products from China.
• Counterfeit hair irons do not have the same level of safety or performance as the original ghd styler.
• Under no circumstances will ghd honour the 2 year warranty on any counterfeit product.
• Counterfeit stylers do not meet with the European electrical safety legistlations and may in fact be a danger to your health and could cause electrocution, serious burns or hair damage. Unsafe electrical items may also cause dangerous electrical fires.
How to spot a fake ghd website
• Only Approved ghd retailers have a live ghd ‘click to verify’ link on their website pages. This is unique to genuine ghd approved online retailers. Do not purchase from any website that does not have this live link, showing todays date and linking direct to ghd’s own website for verification.
• The current batch of fake web sites may look as though they are genuine ghd websites, and can be difficult to initially spot.
• A high number of these sites appear and disappear daily.
• In a high number of cases, goods are not dispatched from these websites and their customers are left with no means to track their purchase.
• The first thing to check is the websites contact details. If they dont have a UK based telephone number and mailing address, chances are they are a fake website.
• If there is no telephone number or customer service number, again beware.
• If the styler is going to be shipped from the Far East e.g. China or Hong Kong or the shipping time is more than 2 or 3 days, it is likely to be a fake product. Approved UK ghd retailers such as
--always offer next working day delivery.
• If the method of payment is only Paypal and not a standard payment gateway, such as Sage Pay, it is also advisable to avoid. Paypal accounts can be setup extremely quickly and not many authorised retailers uses it exclusively.
• Finally and most importantly if the price looks too good to be true, chances are it is. If they are offering £120 + stylers for only £50 or £60 again the offer will be too good to be true.
If you think you have purchased a Counterfeit ghd styler,
Please notify ghd (visit ghdhair.com call them on 0845 330 1133) and they will take legal action against the seller. Unfortunately they cannot compensate purchasers of fake goods and you will not be able to rely on any form of guarantee if the styler is not a genuine ghd product.
I hope you find it helpful.
The main thing with ghd websites is the new initiative that ghd online retailers must have the LIVE CLICK TO VERIFY LINK ON THEIR WEBSITES.
If you purchase from a website that doesnt have this link then you do run a very high risk that you are dealing with an unofficial ghd trader.:(

On a slightly different subject, my DH GHDs started acting up and without them she ends up looking like Crystal Tips (showing my age) , any way being Scottish, I was not keen on splashing out on a new set, went on-lline and found this lot
http://www.ghdsrepair.co.uk/
Sent them off on the Friday, returned on the Tuesday, all working fine.
Also a few sites give tips on how to repair them (I was not allowed to try), just Google GHD repairs

To check for fakes, go to the GHD website (type in genuine GHD into google, its the first one that comes up). They have a web page there that will tell you if the site your looking at is fake or not to be trused if you type in the address.0

Bit of a long shot I know, but has anyone seen any official sites recently that are still selling these?
I have searched via Google but the majority of the sites are fakes. I really wanted a pair of these at Christmas but was made redundant so couldn't buy them when they came out.
Thanks.0 -
hi, if you dont want to be caught out by buying a fake pair go direct to the offical GHD website. they have purple.:)

Thanks. They've sold out but were selling them for around £100 more than the official site anyway....can't justify £249 for a pair even though they do look great!0
