I have sent my faylty GHDs to GHD they have sais they cant fix them due to age of them (near on 4 years old) no spare parts available.
They have offered me mark 4's for £90 or the 3.1's for £60 which Il think il go for as they are the best ive tried.
Wary of the copy ones, but they do sound ok some of them?
SCP - are these as good as GHDs?
Hate being without GHD's so think il ring and buy a £60 pair today.
Dont know wether to ask for faulty old ones back or not? prob means handling charge and postage according to the letterSealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

Have searched the usual places - GHD website, Ebay, but cant find any for under £86.00 is that the best price available?
Also on ebay have seen a few people (from abroad) selling hair straighteners from the OEM GHD factory, what does this mean? have been searching and also asked the sellers, but no reply as yet. Cant find out if they are genuine GHDs or not? has anyone bought them before?0 -
Just to add my two penneth, I treated myself a couple of years back to Vidal Sassoon Maximum (retro, cream coloured straighteners) - they'd been reduced from £70 to £35 and I had some vouchers...
They have been fab, and I saw them on the boots site the other day, now only £19.99 - heat to about 220c, adjustable, solid ceramic plates, long cord, two year guarantee (on all Vidal Sassoon I think?)
What some people see is how good their hair looks out of the salon, when they've used the GHDs - but its not just the tool, its the hairdressers skill too remember.
My hairdresser won't use GHDs, most of her salon ones are T3, which are similar price - she also considers KODO to be just as good at about 1/3 the price.
If you are looking at other brands, look carefully - a lot say they are ceramic, but a closer look reveals they are ceramic coated - opt for solid ceramic plates, and apparently tourmaline is very good.
Look for a decent cord length too - it helps.
Incidentally, I have just bought my niece a pair today, Vidal Sassoon Micro Crystal ones, come in a tin going for about £25 on Amazon, over £30 other places, got these for £15 from Ethel Austin.
I don't know much about micro crytsal ones, but two great reviews on Ciao, all the plus points as far as I can see (high, adjustable temp, long cord, auto switch off after 60 minutes GREAT IDEA), and yes, they come with a 2 year guarantee too.
So.. are the vidal sasson ones any good?? They look amazing, but do they come up with the goods?
Also, was the Tesco straightners these ones??

GHD fixed my straighteners for me but I think they only do it if they're under a year old/still under guarantee. They got them back to me in a week, great service. Shame they conked out in the first place!organic and natural skincare queen0

My GHD hair straightners have developed a fault - the usual problem it seems whereby there is a loose connection inside the unit and power cord which makes the red LED light go off when the flex moves. More worringly, sparking noises can be heard when the unit cuts out. I have had them for 3 and half years and have returned them to GHD for repair. I have been advised the same thing - that it is due to wear and tear and they cannot be repaired. They said I can have the updated version model 3.1b for £60 or the new mk4 version for £90. Or my old irons returned if I pay return postage and a handling fee of £10! (They cost me only £5.70 to post by special delivery to them). Although these prices are a discount off the RRP, I still feel this is unfair, especially after reading the watchdog reports on the BBC website of Oct and Dec 2006. Watchdog is still recieving record numbers of complaints about faulty irons all with the same electrical problem. They relate to irons made in 2002 and 2003 (model 3) the same as mine. There is clearly a problem with these particular models which trading standards has even confimred after testing different models. Safety experts have advised that GHD should recall these old models. There was even a report of a pair of 4 year old irons setting fire!

I have tried speaking to GHD customer services and they refuse to acknowledge there are faulty irons still in use and say this is all they can offer me. Does anyone have any thoughts? Is this acceptable? I appreciate that things wear out but it seems too many people have expereinced the same problem. Looking on ebay you can also see numerous listings for faulty irons available for sale all with exactly the same problem. It seems to me GHD is being unfair offering a replacement of a faulty iron for £60 or £90 pounds. These are not cheap electrical appliances - when I bought them for £100 in 2003 I expected them to be a quality appliance which would last! My £20 hair dryer has lasted me much much longer! I'm tempted to go for the Babyliss irons that people have reviewed so not to give businees back to GHD. Has anyone had the same problems and managed to get a better outcome from GHD?0 -

My mum bought me Some Nicky Clarkes a year ago but they're not that good. GHS looks good but theres a post on here that suggests otherwise.
Oh, and cheaper than GHD of course! GHS £30...
Thanks in advance
Kodo's - recommended by me.. even the mk1 ones that are like £20 to buy are decent.Lost lbs =

i'll ask around first
Most straighteners these days can be used to curl (mainly due to them all being the same kind of size and shape).. it's kind of like using scissors to curl ribbon for presents etc inthat you put the hair in, twist slightly and pull down. It takes a while to get the knack of but isn't too difficult really.Lost lbs =
