not in my book - male crying, i see it as weakness thus i never do it lol. im weak enough in peoples views dont wana go any further.

As for snapping out of it - as i said, it is impossible. shame some people cant see how it is impossible but thats the ignorant ones :)

You don't necessarily have to cry in front of people, do it somewhere private. It really does help me, but I know that everyone has to attack this illness from their own position, so if it does not help you you need to find something that does.

As for people saying snap out of it, I can never decide if it is just difficult for them to understand or if they don't want to understand. Either way the only people I find you can really empathise with depression are people who have suffered from it in one form or another in their life.

Hi Rose, hope you are feeling a bit better today?

Am going to be off for a couple of days, am going to see Robbie Williams in Milton Keynes, so travelling up to my friend's in Horsham today and then we are continuing up to Milton Keynes early tomorrow morning.

It is a great way to beat depression, having something you are really looking forward to. I keep getting panicky about all the arrangements, but I am sure that it will be fab whatever happens.

Hope you all have a good night / day tomorrow and will speak to you all on Sunday.

Hi Flis - have a great time angel - don't worry, we'll all take it in turns to go on Rose-watch!;) Just joking Rose :o
And in no particular order, Flis, Rose, Bettyboop, slayerx and the whole gang -you all give such very good advice.:T Pats on the back all round! That's the good thing about this thread, there's always someone popping along who can relate to how you're feeling and can help to put things in perspective. :) Have a good weekend to anyone who won't be on here at the weekend.
    Much love x

    Hi
I hope know one minds me posting on here. I have had depression off and on for 6 Years.Am going through a really bad patch at the moment can't stop crying have no interest in anything and just not coping . Have been to see GP who is useless, gave me some anti d tablets and sent me on my way. Why are GP's so useless

Hi Clazza - come on in angel! No-one minds you posting on here and if they do, they've got two choices right?! ;)
Do you have a CPN, clazza? Or a support worker? These would be the obvious first contacts as well as your GP when you're not doing so well. Go back for round 2 hun and make your point as clearly as you can and if you find it hard to descibe how you feel verbally, right down a summary letter (like a diary extract kind of) of what you're going through. If you ever feel low hun, you know where to come - awww - come on anyway!;)

Sometimes (not always) I think that it can be hard for a GP to know how bad things really are with us. We usually go in with another problem as well and the depression/anxiety is the usually the last thing we mention in a hurry before we leave.

I think times have changed - Drs, nurses, health workers in any field used to have an almost God-like status, which made it feel too hard to open up to them fully. Now, they've all received some level of experience/training in mental ill health and there are many GPs, health professionals etc who really do care.
I've noticed a common theme in a lot of the posts in that someone has asked for help & hasn't got what they think they needed. Always ask your dr - what choices do I have?
You have every right to say to the dr when you go that :
"I'm feeling a, b & c & I know from past experience how this will affect me and I would like a referral to the ...'Community Mental Health Team / Psychologist /Psychologist" (or even the bloody tooth fairy if that's what would help you!:D ),
    or
"I'd like an assessment from the CMHT." if you've not been before.
    Don't forget to say please!;)

We have to help the doctors by showing them that this isn't just a bad case of the blues and that we need more input. Another alternative, if you're unhappy with their response, is to ask for a second opinion. just as you would in any other medical situation you weren't sure about.

We owe it to ourselves to state as clearly as we can what the problem is, how bad it is and to take an active role in working with medical staff to manage our illnesses - they want us to be like that. We have to help them to help us and if they don't know something's wrong then they can't help. Believe me I do know how hard it is to sit in front of a professional and open your heart so I'm not trying to be condescending - apologies if it sounds like that, it's just my thoughts jumping down onto the paper.

And for all of us feeling low tonight maybe this will cheer us up...
We are special people - after all, if it wasn't for us, there'd be an awful lot of unemployed psychiatrists! :p
And on that note, I'll crawl back under the table...;)
Look after yourselves - big hugs x

Hey Rose - how are you angel? :hello:

You haven't seen a letter by the Tiffster?! :rotfl:

I seem to have a knack, I've been told, for writing letters that can move mountains in serious situations. I may be hampered in some things but I seem to be able to write letters that are effective. The only problem is that I have to rein in the deeply sarcastic side of my sense of humour:rolleyes:

It was good to hear from you angel - hope you've had a better day. And yes I am very good at avoiding questions aren't I? You're like a dog with a bone! lol.;) You're a clever Rosie, very astute - I'm not going to get away with it for much longer am I? Like I said, you all either wouldn't believe the story or you'd end up more depressed than when you came on here!:rotfl:

Anyway got to go and detach DS from PSP2! Catch you over the weekend hun. Much love x
PSST... If anyone hears Rose coming, let me know before she gets the story out of me. I'll be under the table if anyone wants me ! :rotfl:

Hi everyone, hope everyone is doing okay..

Rose, hope you are feeling okay now hon, and you have had a good cry and you feel better for it.

I wish people wouldn't say "snap out of it", thats the last thing anyone needs to here - and I have lost count of how many times it has been said to me. I admit even DH used to say it at the beginning of my illness but now knows better. Well it wasnt until a nurse at the hospital I was in explained things to him that he stopped saying it..

I won't be around for the next week everyone - we are off on our jolly holidays to the sunny Cotswolds. We'ved rented a cottage and are going to take our lovely dog Bear with us, and the cats have their own cat sitter coming to look after them. See you all when I get back, hopefully fully rested :)

but i dont know much difference.
i get soo annoyed at people telling me to snap out of things, or you will be fine, they cant say that when they dont understand and its soo not as simple as that we all know that only too well.

Snap out it, why are you crying, no point in crying, what's the matter? why are you upset, stop being upset. you're always in a mood. what is it now? god, you're always like that, why can't you be happy?

I can hear people say these things all the time. There are no answers and they can't accept that.

I was diagnosed with depression some 10 years back, but I got better within a year, stopped medication and sessions. Except reading this thread I am wondering if I am better at all. Thanks for making me think about it... It explains a lot. I'm not crying or feeling particularly blue, but have complete lack of motivation, ambition - could just be lazy  . But reading through my old diaries I am horrified at how unhappy I have been all my life. Which is making me question who I am? I don't think I know myself at all... If I am right to relate to the world as I do. Feeling extremely hard done by, but also feel I am misleading myself in some way. That I perceive the world all wrong. Should talk it over with someone really.

A recent incident - we decided to try for a baby, and after our first attempts didn't work I got, well, depressed. That is the correct word for it. I have never felt anything like it - like a huge black weight fell down on top of me, I knew it was wrong. It only thankfully lasted for four days but it scared me - I did not smile once, cried a lot, felt a weird restlessness and worst of all I felt an incredible urge like I wanted to hurt myself - that's what got me out of it - I literally walked it off one afternoon, as I was getting no support and was very close to something stupid. :o Very overwhelming. I can't see how people can live with that.
Mentioned this to my family and all I got was 'why? you shouldn't get upset, it's perfectly normal not to conceive at first' Yes I know that thank you. There is no reason for it and people just don't understand that.

Sorry to charge in there unannounced. Hope y'all are great this evening.

its neither - its simplly plain ignorance imo. These people who are mentally ok think that its a joke and just are plain ignorant and dont care about what we think about etc....
