Hiya Jillie, welcome to the thread. Not sure what to say really about your hubby applying for jobs other than maybe he just shouldn't mention that he's off sick?

Someone will be along who'll be more helpful than me soon :)

Unfortunately, most employers ask you to declare the number of sick days and they are known to check up. Many hold the right to give disciplinaries for more than a handful of sick days.

On the note of this long term suffers are able to claim depression and anxiety as disability for work purposes. The definition of a disability at work is quite broad these days. It is easier if you've had multiple times off work or university (my case) to back it up. Declare it to your employer - it will work to your advantage if you become ill, you are entitled to reasonable adjustments.

Has your husband mentioned anything about the stress at work? Do they know why he is off?

I went out today. I have never seen rain like it. It never stopped. My husband was due a hygenist appointment and they changed it on him without telling him. He had to finish early to swap a late finish for tomorrow, so no hardship but the dentist got it wrong!

I do prefer being out, takes me away from the tedium of running a house.

    More packing to do tomorrow.

Big hugs to everyone who needs them.

It's been absolutely manic today. Could have hit someone if they hadn't been at the other end of the country  .They thought they knew better than me when I've been working with the project co-ordinator day in and out for months and done all the testing prior to go live. I'd spotted some errors in some documents they'd published and informed the relevant team and they said I was wrong.

At least I've heard from 'R' - I was starting to worry as she was quite down last night. Too much stress, caffiene + niccotine made it worse for me. :(

Got that out of my system now - feeling better.

heh... they forget we were that age once, and not so long ago either!!!

There was no way the carer could have come and got me because they used hospital transport to transfer daughter and the carer. She was back in her usual place by lunchtime today so it was ok anyway.

Saw my gp this morning, and when I updated him on whats been going on he sat there with his gob open for a few secs n then said 'you should write a synopsis of this and send to the eastenders writers!' lol I love my doctor, he's so cool :D

Saw my counsellor this afternoon and she just sat there making sympathetic noises as usual.. dunno why I bother really!

Thanks for the luck, I'm gonna need it.. got to do all five of those by next week friday!!!

Hppe you enjoyed your trip in the rain.. I like that sometimes, just walking and listening to the sound of it.. even tho I get cold and soaked in the process at the same time it feels like it's washing all the cares away. Love it in summer too.. it gives everything such a lovely smell.

I'm off to beddy byes now.. the kitten is whining to go out in the garden but he's eaten so he'll be a lil sod to get back in and he wont shut up as long as I'm in the room where the patio doors are, lol

    g'night peeps x

Thanks for the hug. I'm okay now - it had been a very busy and stressful day at work and I was worrying about 'R'. Managed to lose most of my stress and been a fair few texts between us so I'm feeling better.

Sometimes it's easier to talk via instant messenger, forum posts or emails. I find it easier to post here about things in person to someone :o . When I told 'R' about my condition I mainly did it by text and email. I found it easier to compose my thoughts that way.

Sorry to hear about daugthter - I'm sure it's really not helping at the moment. Does your daughter know about your condition? I don't know her condition but it might help her appreciate / understand you if she knows. I appreciate it might be very difficult to talk about with her.

My accent, yes it's pure Geordie - I had lost a lot of it when I moved away for University (I can remember when I started Uni, myself and a friend from school used to see each other sometimes after lectures. When we talked nobody understood us :o ). Since I've been back it's returned and occasionally I need to record telephone announcements for work - when I listen to them I sound like the narrator on Big Brother :o (Daay One in the Big Bruvva House..:rotfl: ). Your own voice always sounds weird / bad when you listen to it.

Essays - not sure if I can be much help. It's years since I've written one. I'll try though... Try not to laugh too much :rotfl:

How is fear of crime related to the crime rate? Fear of crime is more to do the increased reporting of crime both to the police but more so in the media. More sources of media - more news, News bulletins are more sensationalised, some crimes were previously taboo. Add into that looking back to 'halcyon days'. I can remember great grandparents saying we never used to lock our doors - but that was nobody had anything worth pinching. (it was grim up north).

The oversocialized conception of man in modern sociology - Is it ? I thought we were becoming less social and more isolated? maybe I misunderstood the question.

Discuss the proposition that 'every generation rediscovers its "underclass"' Man's desire to associate itself in groups and to differentiate between these groups. This leads to rivalries and development of classes. The nature of the classes and underclasses change depending on mood and nature of the times.

Told you would have a good laugh. Must learn to be less self depricating - 'R' would definitely tell me off.:naughty:

    Have a good night's sleep. hug3.gif

Yeah they don't understand the real world but do any of us? They are trying to make their mark in the world and coming to terms with feelings, emotions and hormones which they don't understand or can handle.

Marturity gives wisdom but it doesn't mean the young can't be wise or offer something.

I said several times I wish I had started university when I was older as I would have been able to handle it and appreciate it more.

Youth is wasted on the young... (can't remember who said this :o )

It's interesting to see how this thread has grown so quickly, especially as this is supposed to be a money saving site.

I'd like to share a personal view on the problem, and also suggest an idea that may help others.

I'm not at all saying it's true for everyone, but it's my belief that many people that suffer from depression actually know, deep down, the issue(s) that have contributed to their problem.

I also believe (from personal experience) that recovery from depression can take years, months, days or hours. My personal view is that it can happen really quickly, if you let it. By this I mean that it is possible to start to turn things around fast - in under a day.

I don't believe that just because a problem has taken years to develop, that it needs years to correct. In fact there seems to be a body of science building up that suggests that our brains are capable of almost instant change - not just in this area, but in many others. I'm not suggesting that we can leap clear in an instant, but I do think it's possible to start to turn round the "Supertanker" that is the issue in an instant, and from there get better.

For what it's worth, I'd suggest a quick visit to:

    http://www.nodietdietway.com/index.php

Although this site has been developed by Prof. Ben Fletcher at The University of Hertfordshire to help people loose weight, it is based on some really original ideas and thinking that he used to develop "Framework for Internal Transformation" (FIT) Science on. Which I think also might be of practical help to any of us that suffer from depression. In a nutshell, it involves the concept of "doing something different". In basic terms, it means instead of doing the things we would normally do when depressed, making other choices.

Whilst this sounds great in theory, one of the main problems of depression in the feeling that you can't take action - just my personal observation. So, in order for this idea to work, any one of us could well use somebody to help us.

You may be asking what qualifications I have that allows me to put forward these views.

Well, all I can say is that as a fellow sufferer from the problem, and having tried all sorts of drugs, therapy, books, etc., - this is what worked for me.
  • A man was caught in a flood. Two men came by in a boat to rescue him, but he waved them away shouting: "NO THE LORD WILL SAVE ME".
One hour later another boat came along, but again the man said: "NO THE LORD WILL SAVE ME". Eventually, a helicopter arrived but the man insisted, "THE LORD WILL SAVE ME".
Unfortunately the man drowned and at the gates of heaven he asked St Peter:
"WHY DIDN'T THE LORD SAVE ME?"
    and St Peter replied...
    ".....for crying out loud - He sent two boats and a helicopter;
    What more do you want?!"

    Joy to you all

    Love, Angie

(am I being a fraud posting here when I've never suffered depression??)
