Hi Regsaver, so sorry you are not feeling good. What is happening with your job?

It is very easy for people who have never suffered from depression or mental illness to say things like 'smile and all will be ok' or (my personal favourite) 'Snap out of it'. You need to try and explain that you are suffering from an illness, in the same way they wouldn't expect someone with a broken leg to walk on it, it is the same thing expecting someone with clinical depression to 'snap out of it'.

You see my boyfriend has experienced it but he has a different out look on life now. He was in a serious car crash and nearly died, still suffers now. When he had to learn to walk again, he was easily frustrated but he didnt let anything beat him. He used to be on anti-depresents himself and still takes a mild form along with his 13 tablets a day
Therefore he has a personality like life is too short ect
I don't think he understands why I worry about things as much as i do or care as much

Depression just expresses itself differently in men to women.

I never knew that, I thought depression was just different from person to person, I didn't realise there were gender splits in it. Do you know what the differences are?

    What are your symptoms?
I'm diagnosed with Depression and Generalised Anxiety Disorder, but I don't think thats what I've got. I'm pretty sure that I've got post traumatic stress disorder, and possible bibolarity, schizoaffective disorder and ocd.
    Feeling sad or unhappy
    High levels of anxiety
    Low energy
    Difficulties concentrating
    Feeling worthless or hopeless
    Losing interest in work

The worry sounds like an anxiety disorder. I suffer from one and can worry about anything and everything and very easily get myself worked up. Got really upset one day as my cushions had condensation on them and I was worried they would get mouldy. Also had odd pains in my body which I worry are blood clots / serious illnesses and I get myself really worked up about it.

I used to go on a really good site for chatting to people with anxiety disorders. I will see if I can dig out the address for you.

  • Hi everyone

I've been lurking around MSE for a while now, mainly looking at tips on debt etc. I've only recently gotten into looking on the discussion boards and feeling confident enough to post a few musings.

in particular i'm strangely drawn to Studentphil's threads (that's a compliment SP;) ) and i'm really glad you went to the dr's today, i know it takes a lot of guts.

Anyway strangely for the first time in a few months things have gone really black:( (perhaps the clocks changing:confused:)

But seeing as you seem such a friendly and supportive group i thought 'd say hello

Those symptoms all sound too familiar!

Is it reactive depression (i.e. has something specific occurred to cause your depression)? I almost wish mine was reactive at times, then at least I would know the cause / reason I have this condition.

    Hi Pesky Pixie,

Possibly you are suffering from S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder). There are some special lights you can buy which simulate sunlight and are supposed to help relieve the condition.
