I looked at the recent Weight Watchers promotion but realised it didn't do much more (if not less than MyFitnessPal app I have on my iPhone and iPad for free. I'm sure someone will happily prove me wrong but I think it's a great little app and there's no risk of forgetting to cancel...

I joined Weightwatchers round about November last year (2013) as I heard such good reports about it. However, I don't have so much free time, and can't make meetings, so what I mainly use is the app and the website. Which set me thinking ... are there free alternatives? (£12/pcm is a significant bite out of the budget). So luckily, through MSE, I have found a number of free alternatives. I have chosen the Tesco Health and Wellbeing one, and thus far it seems pretty good: I am getting everything I got from WW, tracker on website and phone app, community, advice, etc. but I save £12 pcm.

My advice to anyone thinking of joining WW is, if you don't want/need to attend meeting, and plan to do it all online, you may as well go with the free alternatives, because they give you all the same stuff.

I think WW is a good org, that has stood the test of time, but I think it is one of those things that may not survive the advent of the internet.

Meanwhile I am trying to cancel my subscription to WW and am finding it near impossible - the pages that are supposed to tell me how mysteriously will not load, and I have emailed them but had no reply. When I went to my bank acct online it turns out that the payment is not Direct Debit (which I would just be able to cancel) but just debit. I have told WW that I no longer authorise this.

So I'm just hoping that they get back to me today and we can sort all this out.
