    Ooooh - top tip!! I'm going to try that! :)

    When I was a kid my friends mum always used to let the phone ring 3 times so her husband knew she was ready to be picked up and taken home - no need to answer or ring back, he could always just check 1471 to make sure it was her if he needed to. "(kitschkitty)

    I used to ring a work colleague & let it ring for 3 times too. I would then get in the car and drive to hers. She was always waiting for me to take her to work!

    "I'm very grateful to the companies who put at least 2 clothing collection bags through my door every week, I've been able to stop buying swing bin liners. And they come in smaller plastic bags - how thoughtful "

    Me too - though I don't use them for bin bags as I am afraid things would leak through the non-smother holes they put in.

    "I haven't bought a polythene box for I don't know how long, instead I have ice cream/spread/coleslaw etc tubs for the fridge and freezer."

    I have some 4lb Kraft margarine boxes bought in the 70's. They have wonderful seals and are used to store dried fruit, sugar, flour etc.

    I have so many they are also used for mixing wallpaper paste - then used again for same purpose, OH also has several for his bits and pieces and the grandchildrens cars and nick-knacks are stored in them.

    My sewing things like elastics, bindings, buttons.are also kept in them and as usually the lid goes first the bases are used as liners in drawers to store toiletries and make-up .

    Unfortunately similar sized boxes are not as strong and don't last as long thou I still keep large ice-cream boxes!

  • When you use a 5% discount code and place an order online and feel chuffed, but then find one for 10% which would have saved you a further 75p and feel sick for losing out.

    You know you are a money saver when you ask family member to save the large plastic milk containers so that you can use them for storage.

    I have also done this for quite a while.

    6 pints for flour, porrige oats, etc;
    4 pints for lentils, pulses, rice, etc;
    2 pints for sultanas, mixed fruits, etc,
    and the small 1 pint for freezing portions of soup in.

    I love the fact they are lightweight, easily replaceable, always match, recyleable and FREE :money:. Trouble is my mum thinks it's just because I can't afford "proper" containers :o.

    PS: I have also discovered that my jam funnel is the perfect size for re-filling them too :T.

    Still getting used to the mooncup, only used it one month, it was a bit fiddly, and took some getting the hang of for me, but i found out about it from here - and love it for 100 reasons! Primary one wasn't money saving but environmental - money save helps, but it has alot to do to pay for itself! It isn't something I would rave about tho, not because I'm ashamed, but because, there are so many "things" surrounding periods, that people dont talk about it to that degree. Plus we get taxed on tampons which has ALWAYS wound me up! I don;t personally see it as MSE per say, for me it was an environmental investment, but for many, its longevity is also the saving, either way its genious :)
    I know that alot of women wouldn't want to use it, and I appreciate and understand that to a degree, but as an ex nurse, it doesnt bother me at all, and I am surprised and intrigued rather than disgusted!
    Long live my mooncup!
