oh oh, can I join or am I too late?
I'm going to combine two challenges to get all the support I can! I need to cut down on what I spend on food - so giving up bought lunches at work and dinners out! Bought lunches should be a complete break but dinners out will have to just be cut down, though I hope to do that rather dramatically!
Yay new challenge!Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010
Taking my frugal life on the road!0 -
Hi all, I am definitely going to stop buying lunch at school. I am a teacher and often find myself in the canteen buying lunch. I stopped last year as I couldn't afford it, but then found myself going back... I have decided to take my own lunch this year that I will enjoy and more importantly look forward to - prawn salads, salads which include sun dried tomatoes, lettuce, goats cheese and onion, food from my left over dinner from the night before - pasta, curry and corned beef hash - anything exciting :-)
If anyone has any other exciting lunch ideas I would love to hear about them!!
I will also be cutting down on spontaneous buys that I will never use... I have already stopped buying magazines as I feel these can be a big waste of money.
Alcohol is going to be another thing that I will cut right back on.
Good thread - good idea!!

In the past i have made a batch of patties which i freeze and then cook the day before. Then all i do is take one or two to work with some salad or other veg and then warm it up in the microwave. I also make my own soup and bread and take these into work too. Most of my lunch though comes from left overs from the night before which is always good.MFW 2016 No 68 £1300/£8500 No new toiletries Cook sth different0

Soup is a very good idea! I could take some in a tub and warm it up. Yeah - leftover food from the night before is definitely a great way to save money and plus it is different from sandwiches! Also, I find if I do take sandwiches I eat them at breaktime - or before if I have a free lesson!!! At least with food that has to be warmed up I can wait until lunch time! :-)0

You are not! Welcome
Maybe reading your post, you would want to quantify the dinners out (i.e. X number per year or month) so you can measure it ?? It is the math brain in me writingI am definitely going to stop buying lunch at school.

Thank you. Welcome. I so don't list all my "need to cut down" on but pretty much fit with yours on these. See 2nd post on this thread if you want me to add to it - Currently listed as Not buying lunch at work, No spontaneous buys
My home made sandwitches have turned into a little mix of everything (mustard, cheese, pork or beef depending on last night meal, etc.. all sliced up and mixed with cherry tomato chutney to moisten it .. niceMFW on your mark0 -

No magazines for me this year either  but needs must.
I am partial to home magazines, RED, sometimes Women and Home and Prima and the Sainsbury's magazine if I am in there.
Thanks for the thread, I am making my pledge :T0 -
I gave up my TV some time ago - I only ever regret it when the 6 Nations rugby is on and I have to go out to watch it!
I find people are shocked when I say I don't have one, but I really can not imagine going back to owning a TV.
I haven't had a TV since 2005 - and yes I do miss the six nations as well but then either watch it on the big screen at work, on the computer at home, the pub across the road or on the Iplayer...
Unfortunately when OH moved in he brought his colour portable with him, but he thinks the tellybox is also a waste of time - so it'll be going this week

No magazines for me this year either
Magazines are definitely a popular choice and I will have to work on my OH this year to drop his buying of Stuff, T3 and others. Very expensive and all in all, very close to be actually a magazine that is a "what you can buy" magazine (if you can afford it). What's the point when there's so much data on line.MFW on your mark0
