people driving with loads of snow on the roof of their car

Them please explain why so many bikers don't think that the speed or overtaking rules apply to them and so many cyclists ignore traffic signals / zebra crossings and have no lights.
And I've owned both in the (distant) past.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

If you were riding a motorcycle trying to dodge potholes, other drivers sliding, snow and ice, would you consider it dangerous if some kids started throwing snowballs at you as you rode along ?
How big is the snow from the roof of a car compared to a snowball?
Would you be concerned if you were riding along and a piece of snow and ice the size of a mattress was thrown in front of your wheels?
Just wondering...........
Incidentally, I'm not a motorcyclist, never have been and never will be.
So now you're comparing compacted projectiles of snow to loose snow from the roof of a vehicle, and also suggesting that snow from said roof falls onto the ground in a single sheet.
Good analogy.0 -
I disagree...yes some will be, but I see lot who aren't! Cyclists with no helmet or lights, bikers who make dangerous maneouvers, speed or carry passengers who have no helmet or leathers on! I even see bikers without leathers themselves! Just plain stupid as I sure any sensible biker would agree.
As a rider of the 4 legged kind and a car driver, I appreciate hazards from both points of view.

Sure, right after you explain why so many car drivers drive too close to the car in front (particularly at motorway speeds) and fail to indicate properly.
There are muppets in every type of vehicle. Idiot bikers and cyclists tend not to survive as long as car drivers, however. The point being that just because you can identify a bunch of idiots within a group of road users is not a valid argument against the group as a whole.0 -
Sorry guys, but the amount of snow and ice we've had up here makes it impossible to clear the snow from the roof of my car.
1. I'm too short, I can't reach. Tried using a broom doesn't work
2. The broom doesn't work because... Frozen solid snow. We've had snow/ice for almost 4 weeks now. with temps ranging between 0 and -13
3. I just don't have the time in the morning. Takes me all the time I got to defrost the locks to get into the car, before I start defrosting the windows.
Maybe I would be more tempted to do it if I was driving far, but as I only drive about 10 miles a day, it can stay there til it falls off in spring.:p
1. Ever heard of a box?
2. Snow acts as an insulator, the exterior surface may be a little crispy, as may well be the contact surface, the rest will easily brush off... lame excuse, it's not a block of ice.
3. Get ya lazy butt out of bed 10 minutes earlier. Spray WD40 in your locks and they won't freeze. Glass is clear of snow ice in 60 seconds using a bottle of tepid water.
excuse after excuse after excuse. Lame.0 -
Its great that they can use thier mirrors but im one of those stange people that likes the advantage of seeing whats happening on the road ahead of me via the transparent nature of these things they call windows,
Being able to see through my rear window last year ment being rear ended by someone doing 50 MPH when all other traffic was static ment I walked away instead of leaving the scene in a wooden box.
so do i my front windows are always clear.
why did being able to see out the rear window mean you walked away? what difference would it be seeing someone running into you in your rear view mirror or seeing them in your wing mirrors? it didnt stop them hitting you did it? if you adjust your wing mirrors properly then you will see just as much from them (if not more) as you will in your rear view mirror....work permit granted!0 -

If it looks like someone is coming into the back of your car, you have the possible courses of action to take your foot off the brakes(reduces the energies absorbed by your vehicle during the impact) try to start moving forward (for the same reasons) or you can try to drive out of the way.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

Some cars don't have heaters in the side mirrors. They can mist over during the journey.
they should be clear. open window, wipe mirrors, job done.
do you need wing mirrors for an MOT?
do you need a rear view interior mirror to pass MOT?...work permit granted!0 -

[pedant]
You need a drivers side wing mirror and either a rear view mirror OR a passenger side wing mirror, not both (though if both are fitted they must work)
So if you do mist up, you can wipe your drivers side one and still be legal, unless of course you're in a van with no rear windows.
I know this because when I was young and poor and someone knocked off the passenger side mirror of my Mk2 Astra the night before the MOT, I just removed the remains, put gaffer tape over the hole and it passed.0
