True....My council is useless...I live at the top of a steep hill and my car, prepared for winter, is still rear wheel drive.
I'll be walking to my childminders and work tomorrow because even if the main road is clear...I can't get the car out the street, that's if the schools are open. Im glad its my day off today lol.
Still good excuse for fun in the snow.

In fact if a wad of snow on my roof, which blows off randomly deters people from driving up my bumper its a good thing. :T
If people are keeping their correct distances in this weather a chunk of snow blowing off shouldn't even be an issue.0 -
It's not handy if like me you are still on a motorbike. They all seem oblivious to what they are doing, yet it would take 5 seconds with a brush to remove it all
Your still riding a bike in these conditions and you think snow on a car roofs dangerous . How much does the salt/road spray affect your vision in these conditions cause im washing the screen every 1/2 mile.0 -
don't think anyone has mentioned this yet......if there is that much snow on the roof of your car ot be a danger and hazard to others....how much is on the ground and how icy is it? is it safe to be driving at all?
We already have 2 inches of snow here this morning...I'm not taking the car out...it;s simply too dangerous.

For the record, we've had probably around a foot of snow in total over the last few weeks. Even now, there are still at least 6 inches of snow sitting on walls and such like. There has been no gritter or plough down my street for the best part of a month (and even at that, I had to email them to complain that I required road access as an emergency service. 1 grit treatment, and that was it). The roads are a mix of hard pack snow and ruts of varying depth and iciness. And I'm driving a little red van with no problems at all. Even better, when I can prise the keys of my pick-up out of my OH's hands, I can go out and have some real fun. I haven't crashed, or skidded (although I did have to take avoiding action at a roundabout the other day because some little dumba$$ in a boy racer mobile failed to give way. Shame it wasn't the pick-up I was driving, as he would have been a very sorry little boy). I've only got stuck once, when I went down a pot hole on a forest track, and the van beached on the thick snow underneath, but even then, it was no big deal.
Get to a car park, and have some fun. It's the ONLY way you'll learn to drive in stuff like this without going to a professional skidpan.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

I use my car twice a week, generally, to get to and from my local airport in Inverness. I park the car there when I'm off to work and it stays there - out in the open - for usually about five days at a time. When I get back the carpark guys have cleared the windscreen etc but not the roof. I don't mind them not clearing the roof because I know I wouldn't do it, either.
If the snow on my roof bothers any other driver, one of us is too close to the other. And it's more often than not someone else too close to me.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. if your concerned that you will fall off your bike in the snow, then get a car. or a bus.
There are enough dangers on the road without having to look out for these things.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I think most people have done it at some point. In a rush to leave, too short to reach the roof, whatever. However, it is in the highway code that before setting off :- remove all snow that might fall into the path of other road users.
Can be handy following someone like that if your washers have frozen. The snow coming off as dust is just enough to wet the windscreen, allowing you to use your wipers.
I can`t reach my roof. Don`t think I could ring in to work to say I can`t leave the house because of snow on my roof!0 -

You might call me irresponsible .
Read the other points too instead of picking on just one, thnx
The point that I didn't have time in the morning is because I leave for work at 5am. It's bl00dy cold thenThe other points are more relevant tbh.
As I said if I was driving a distance or going onto motorway I would make more of an effort, but trust me, I am not driving far enough for it to start melting, never mind falling off!4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
There was someone on tv this morning saying how dangerous to other road users it was to drive without clearing the snow from the roof, bonnet, boot of your car. Imagine you were driving along and a lot of snow suddenly came at you from the car in front, what would you do?. panic and swerve or just let it hit you. I know how dangerous this is as its happened to me and I nearly had an accident.
Also someone was driving along the motorway when a lot of snow/ice came off the roof of the lorry in front and almost hit her car.. Very dangerous.0
