people driving with loads of snow on the roof of their car

how bloody dangerous is this!!! hard braking and its off the roof and on the window screen .
Exactly!
Seen three accidents that looked to be the direct result of this since the snow started here and evidence of a lot more vehicles dumping loads of uncleared snow. My road ends in a roundabout with a downward slope and curve. There are daily instances of a vehicle coming off the main road and having to break hard and come to a standstill in traffic because the roof load of snow slid right over the windscreen, totally obscuring their view forward.
Then there are the bams who just clear a tiny patch on the windscreen/side windows and drive-off regardless! :mad:0 -
no - most of the replies from people in this thead who dont want to clear snow off their cars are from car drivers - and their refusal to accept that is may be a hazard to other road users is narrow minded.
I am not concerned with a few flakes of snow - I am concerned with large clumps of snow that drop of vehicles that could have been easily cleared off before driving. Which was what the thread was about - not diesel
You haven't demonstrated that these clumps or snow are in any way dangerous.0 -
took the car onto the motorway today, the snow and ice flew off when we hit 80, it was impressive and really makes an enjoyable start to the day. Too many health and safety moaners have really ruined life....nobody was hurt as far as I could tell and the kids inside were cheering. what ever happened to people "living a little"0

just like to say, when ever i have had an incident with an 'organ donor in leather' its been a case of one of these idiots coming down the road at twice (at least) the speed limit, and then complaining because you didnt see them
its quite simple. they wern't there when you looked.
ban the blo0dy lot of them
There are other threads on this site discussing the events in the run up to accidents and some posts even quote websites detailing judges rulings on accidents.
In the example you cite above, you would be to blame for not making sure the road was clear before pulling out, not the motorcyclist regardless of his speed.

If you were riding a motorcycle trying to dodge potholes, other drivers sliding, snow and ice, would you consider it dangerous if some kids started throwing snowballs at you as you rode along ?
How big is the snow from the roof of a car compared to a snowball?
Would you be concerned if you were riding along and a piece of snow and ice the size of a mattress was thrown in front of your wheels?
Just wondering...........
Incidentally, I'm not a motorcyclist, never have been and never will be.

Some great points in these posts. It's amazing the number of people that don't appear to have the first clue about driving in winter conditions!
I think the following page should be pasted to the windscreen of all the offenders!
Highway Code, Driving in Adverse Weather Conditions.
The main legal points appear to be:-
- You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236).
- you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows
- you MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible
- make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly
- remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users
- You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.
Sometimes, I'd love to be a traffic officer, just to educate a few drivers LOL0 -
Well said Pedant!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

Can i translate this for people who dont know HOTHOTHOT?
Got up, had my breakfast, switched on my computer.
Sat for hours on my own, making up stupid threads on an internet forum.
Phoned my only mate, no answer, probably pretending not to be in again.
Had a w!!!
Cried quietly to myself.

sorry, but whats wrong with youwhy would you be so mean to someone - ive been snowed in for a week and yes it has been boring but im here to help others. today was the first good day, and the motorway was totally clear- I drove at a high speed not just to get the ice off but to let the engine benefit from a long run - I was told its not good for engine to be driven at low speeds for so long.
