I hate heated front and rear screen on my current car, which is great! However, while the car is melting the front and rear windows im busy scraping the sides.

I was just going to say that! The alcohol does the blade - which you want as smooth and neat as possible - no good at all. I wouldn't use lukewarm water though - I'd be frightened of cracking due to temp difference. Last year I picked up a fab windscreen protector sheet in Tesco's for 99p (cleareance which had been reduced, reduced and then reduced some more). Works a treat! If the oh is the last one in he often doesn't think about putting it on, so I do then resort to a fab scraper we got free from the RAC years ago - efficient, fast and clean. A whole ice-solving system in place for a total of 99p! (We have the garage too, in which we keep 2 of the 3 cars in, and that's always the best option for anti ice measures!)Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
That's one of the reasons I use a scraper.mandragora wrote: »I was just going to say that! The alcohol does the blade - which you want as smooth and neat as possible - no good at all.
I have old cans of deicer around my house.
Plus the minute or two when I'm scrapping means I don't have to fiddle with the heating to ensure I don't get blasts of cold air on me when I sit down.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

big deal 99p for can of de icer makes no sense to stand there for ages scraping sorry!
Do you know which forum you're on?
My car has been iced up ever morning for 6 weeks. I'm not spending £5-£6 when I can use luke warm water and a scraper.

I've found de-icer to be crap. Just leaves a smudgy, smeary mess on the windscreen. Much better results with scraping.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

When I had to scrape the other week, I used a bit of 2x4 (wood) about 14 inches long, I had that ice gone in next to no time, no piddley credit card or hand scraper for me!
But I use water usually from home and I use a spray when I leave work to come home.
However, I have noticed with the increasing no. of people using water, there is then a lot of water turned to ice on the pavements, which if someone slipped on, it would be the householders liability for their injuries.0 -

They have to prove you did it.
And if your car is parked on the public highway it would be hard to prove.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
