Hester I keep mine in two big Tupperware style sandwich boxes in the cupboard. I probably haven't got as many as you though so this may not be feasible.

I did read somewhere about screwing the lids onto the underneath of cupboards then screwing the jars back on so that they were all lined up underneath it if you see what I mean. We use this system in the shed with old jam jars of screws, nut & bolts etc. Don't know if it'd work in your kitchen & you'd have to buy refills all the time & keep the original jars. Hope this is of some help anyway :D

    Morning All!
Hi to everyone, I've been distracted over Christmas and New Year. Dad was in hospital from the 22nd December with a burst ulcer. Had to have 9 pints of blood:eek: The awful man discharged himself on the 30th though! DD and I were furious with him, as she had been getting a care package in place for him, and the hospital didn't even tell me he'd gone! "He told us not to tell anyone" said the staff nurse, well he would wouldn't he? Didn't want me to stop him:mad:
So I am being very short with him at the moment.:o

WM is on, and just done some ironing. OH went home yesterday after two weeks, miss him already!:o

Took the tree down yesterday, the dust!:rotfl: Need to vacuum everywhere now!:rotfl:

(((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) if you need them, I'll try and catch up with everyone later.
Have a good (if cold) day!

P.S. Hester I keep all my spices in a small drawer underneath the hob, use them more now they are more accessible!
    I Believe in saving money!!!:T

    Morning all :)

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. I have been without net over the break, but I'm back at work now (oh joy:rolleyes:) I did bite the bullet and sorted out a net connection for home yesterday though - OH and I have decided to try and spend less time at work and figured if we actually bothered to get the phone and net connected in the flat we could do a lot of the tiny jobs from home rather than trek to work, get stuck at work and stay there for hours. :o They reckon a couple of weeks, but that's fine - we've had no phone line for two years so 14 extra days won't hurt :rotfl:I haven't read through fully yet and am a bit phazed, so will check back after coffee and re-read properly :)

I am a wreck this morning, I fully admit it. One of my closest friends has her PhD viva this morning - she will just be going in now. I so hope it all goes well for her as she has had a really rough time (yet another of Dr Jeckylls students - you may be spotting a trend here ;)). It's likely to be a long-haul as she has an examiner from the US and the viva structure can be a bit different - she had to prepare a 2 hour presentation on her work as well as the exam itself (to put that into perspective, my exam was shorter than her presentation has to be). The room has been booked for 5 hours  but we're hoping she will be out before then.

OH is in court today too for his preliminary divorce hearing - he has applied for a hearing as his estranged wife wants to defend - this will determine if she is allowed to defend or not. I have no idea what will happen, I just want it over with. It's got so complicated for something that should have been so simple. I don't think the judge will be pleased they couldn't agree on anything :( I am so worried that it's all going to go pear shaped - I feel so sick. Three years work of pointless and expensive fighting wears you down so much. :(

OS wise I haven't been up to much - I cleaned the kitchen to within an inch of its life last night (I even moved the fridge _pale_ ) and put away some of the lesser used gadgets to create some space. I ordered a Kenwood chef from Robert dyas at the weekend as I made a fruit cake at the weekend and now my right hand is strapped so it's immobile because it aches so much. I have a wedding cake to make for the 10th of April (same friend who has her exam today) and if I can't cope with stirring 5 inch squares worth of mix I won't cope with a 13 inch circle base (about seven kilos normally). I really need to be careful, otherwise I'm going to be in proper trouble in a few years time with them. I already have an ergonomic mouse and keyboard and OH has the job of opening tins and jars, but pipetting stuff at work all the time has made it much worse :)

I got lakeland vouchers for Christmas if anyone has any ideas :D I know I need a new potato peeler as I can't use the one I have anymore because of my hands; but if anyone has any other recommendations for shiny things :D

I sold some items of amazon yesterday, and started an art supplies shop on folksy at the weekend to try and clear out some of the craft stuff that's built up over the years. I have forty kilos of buttons. Noone needs that many buttons :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: even if they are soooo sooooo shiny.

have a good day all, cel x

...I've just suffered yet another herb & spice avalanche & just wondered what other MSE'rs do with their spices. Mine sit on a shelf 7 spices deep & 3 herbs high ...
I cleared out a drawer next to my cooker, and keep them all in there. No falling over, easy to reach...

We have all ours in a shallow drawer beside the cooker - with labels on the top of the jars!

My dad did this for my mum.....only drawback is that things can fade & lose flavour.

Hester I've got a book that I'm just finishing that I think you may like - it's called "Wartime Women" and is a Mass-Observation anthology. It's heavier going than Nella Last but very intersting. If you'd like to read it, PM me your address & I will pop it into the post to you.

Floss that sounds interesting. I'm looking for an affordable copy of Nella Last's Peace. I loved the first one and was gutted recently to have to sell it. It was one of those books I would have read over and over but I knew it would sell so felt obliged to list it as I have to find money for the electricity etc as flatmate needs any money he can find to pay off his debts. As he is on benefits and has a frozen bank account this even includes pennies found on the street.

One day if I have a job or some money again I will replace my Nella Last. :)

Off to the library to try to track down "Wartime Women" . I know they got a lot of books in about the war recently for some strange reason .

    JC-hope court goes well.

DH and Ds2 have gone off to work for the first time in ages, and they are working outside-don't envy them one bit,its freezing and Dh still has his awful cough.Hope the client keeps the kettle on.

My cold feels a bit better today, but my arm/shoulder is really sore, feels like I've pulled something.Just taken some aspirin so its easing a bit now.I want to get the decs back in the loft so DS1 will have to help me.Took the cards down yesterday so they can go into my craft stuff to be used next Christmas in some way.

Tea is tuna steaks, not sure what with yet.

Right ,off to sort out this tree,DH willchop it up for firewood later.

Hope you all have the best day you can.x
