yes, as others have said, don't print off the pic

I really would get in touch with the police, maybe even if it's just the community support officer, they may go into school and have a word. it's serious because the kids don't realise that they could get put on the sex offenders list for passing around that video.

Hi Id call social services in the morning. They can then handle the situation with people who are trained in child protection. It could be that an adult or older boy has pushed her into it.

I don't know about cyber bullying - I only know that criminal offences have been committed by the people who:

    * Took an indecent photo of a 'child' (defined as a person under the age of 18 years). An 'indecent' photo includes one which shows an erotic pose, without any sexual activity.
    * Distributed the indecent photo of the child
    * Published it on the internet.

I would expect the school to pass the enquiry to the police.

Don't fly off the handle with me, but why go as far as the Police?

The girl took the pic herself and took the video herself.

    She's passed them on.

The pic is now posted on facebook and has been commented on by a shedload of people from her school.

The video is God knows where now.

The school is the only link I have of getting through to the girls parents, who I feel should know ASAP.

Plus school could have a word with the girl who has put the pic up, to let her know her behaviour is totally unacceptable and alert her parents too if school sees fit.

The kid is going to get enough stick and wonder what the hell is going on if the Police turn up.

I've reported the pic, that's as far as I can go with facebook.

The CEOPs, I've just looked at the link provided, but it's not 'sexting' which is where the link takes me and I can't see any choice to report which suits this situation.

CEOP - no it isn't Sextexting (that's the nearest I could find) but it's not your fault if their reporting currently doesn't cover this situation.

Use their form anyway and you can add links to the facebook accounts so they know eaxctly what you are talking about.

Yes, I agree the girl has been very silly, but she is also young and this is something that may have unimaginable consequences for her, so I personally would still report it. If CEOP then decides to do nothing, they are making an informed decision as child protection agents with potentially more expertise in this area than you or I possess.

Make a note of the website addresses, possibly the nature of some of the comments on the wall and go to the school. The one problem they may have is that they can probably not get onto FB directly from within the school network if it's filtered like it is in most schools.

Yes it's happening outside of school but the Govt's put the onus on cyber bullying etc onto schools so they should be clued in enough to act - more than anything else if there's that kind of culture developing within a year group they need to nip it in the bud at the start as there's probably not just one kid caught up with it all.

Clicking through to report it all via FB is probably a good course of action as well.

She probably did take the video herself to impress a boy - you're easily egged on to do things for approval and to be told you're attractive/hot/pretty as a young woman - the trouble with the internet is that, while in older times you might have given one lad a quick flash of yer baps... these days it's on camera and passed around everyone you might have ever come into contact with within minutes - a more high-tech version of the "phwoar you'll never guess what I got that Jenny in year 9 to get up to on Sat night" muttering that has always gone on among teenage boys trying to impress their mates.

Good God, this is proof that kids just should not be allowed internet accounts that they are clearly not mature enough to handle. Silly girl and silly 'friend' for posting it.

Did anyone read the article in the paper the other day about a Policeman deliberately setting up an account and posing as a young girl? He got 400 messages almost immediately, a large proportion of which were deemed to be from adults pretending to be a child.

Well done for getting involved Shell. I wonder how many other people viewed this and thought 'silly girl' and did nothing.

    Morning.

I've been trying to ring school for the past 20 minutes, but I'm not getting any answer.

It goes onto voicemail for me to leave a message, but as soon as the 'please leave your name, number and message after the tone' is said, there is no tone and the phone cuts out.

If I get no joy today (I'll keep trying), I'll have to ring first thing in the morning.

I'll check that link out now, thanks Ady.

  • I'd agree with not taking a screen shot etc of the picture, but whilst you can see the girls wall with everyone posting nasty comments on it, maybe take a screen print of that. Because if the school raises this issue with all the pupils, the namecallers will probably go on facebook asap, delete their comments and deny ever sending them. Thus getting away with bullying - but not if you can provide some proof that they have been.

Whoever she is, she has been very silly indeed; the fact that she's not very popular suggests she has been coerced into it or foolishly believes it will make her popular. However, the girl who's posted that picture on facebook and led the slanging/bullying match deserves the harshest punishment possible IMO. If it was me, I'd be on the phone to the police and reporting her for issuing explicit pictures of a minor online; make her think twice before ever bullying someone again.
