Oh Lordy, some advice here please!

My daughters came to me before and showed me a pic of a girl on facebook that's in her school. The girl is in my sons year (year 9)

The girl is in a pair of shorts and her bra, in a full length pose.

By the time my daughter showed me, there were 95 comments, all slagging the girl off, then I noticed a comment which said that the girl had sent a video of herself naked (doing things) which she had sent to boys in her year.

I called son down and asked him about it, he blushed, went all quiet, but told me she had.

The girl is either 13 or 14, but if that was my daughter I would want to know!

What on earth can I do?!

If that video is going around and the girl is on facebook, it probably wouldn't take long before it gets into the wrong hands.

I was thinking of ringing school on Tuesday morning and explaining the situation to see if they can alert her parents.

Is that a good idea or not?!

God I wish I didn't know, but I'm glad DD came to me and I'm glad my son was honest with me.

I can't sit and do nothing ~ help me with some advice guys!

Silly, silly girl!! :wall:

  • there may be someone in school tomorrow - assuming the kids are back on tuesday. Sounds like this needs to be stopped pronto.

Is Monday an INSET day at the school? If it is I think I would ring then and report it as this needs to be taken down and damage limitation done ASAP. Alternatively do you know the girls parents? If you do I would ring them, however if you don't know them well and how they might react I would go the school route.

Also make sure your son hasn't forwarded it to anyone and has deleted the image as she is under 16 I believe it is an offence to possess the image or forward it to anyone else.

Yes, thank you, you both might be right, there could be someone there tomorrow, not sure if it's an inset day, but there's not harm in trying is there?!

I don't know the girl, my son just knows her from school and the girl added my daughter on facebook a while ago (probably because of my son).

The image is on facebook right now. Don't know how long it's been there as I didn't ask the kids. So my 2 wouldn't have it on their comps anyway as it's there for all to see on facebook!

Son said he deleted the video. I asked him if he was sure it was her in it and he said Yes. I didn't want to push it, he probably felt mortified when I asked him but at least he was honest with me.

TBH yes, I think ringing the school is a good idea. They can handle it from there, and at least you know you did all you could to help. If the girl would be embarrassed at her parents knowing then it shouldn't be splashed all over facebook. I would want to know if it were my DD, as it screams 'self esteem issues' and hopefully she is young enough that she could get real help in building this in a much more productive way.

It's great your kids were honest with you, and hope the girl can get some help/ support, or try to understand why she shouldn't be doing that and splashing it all over the internet!

    Hi Shellsuit,

I'm sure there will be someone in school tomorrow to speak to. I'd definitely go down the school route too, even if you do know the parents-I just think it's better to let them deal with it. As a secondary teacher myself, I know it will only be a matter of time till teachers get wind of it anyway, as the kids will all be talking about it on Tuesday, but it's definitely a good idea to get it flagged up with the Head of Year ASAP.

If your children are embarrassed about you contacting school about it, which would be totally understandable, then there isn't necessarily any need to say who you are when you speak to school, just that you are 'a parent of a Year 9 pupil' and are concerned about another student at the school.

HTH and good luck! Great that your children flagged this up to you! :-)

I'm just worried because I don't know what her family life is like.

What if her Dad batters her??! We don't know what goes on behind closed doors do we.

    Oh what a mess!!

I'm gonna go and have a little chat with son and see when he got the video and see if I can find anything else out about the girl.

Doesn't Facebook have a 'report' button ? I think the site administrators would take this down very quickly if aware
  • Underneath the photo, in the bottom right corner, click "report this photo".

yep report the photo, and id ring the school and have a discreet word, as they will know what to do x your poor woman, id be in turmoil and feel ill as she wont have a clue what she is getting into as this could effect her reputaion and future, that facebook has a lot to answer for at times.
Hope it all works out xxx
