Cos I feel guilty about joining flying this week and then ignoring it everyday knowing I should :o:p

But, having said that... all the tidying and sorting I did yesterday and today has put a big smile on my face so it's worked out well. I feel much calmer about the flat because it's tidier! :D But thank you for asking :A.

  • Hello All, please can I join in?

I did try just over a year ago but then got a new job and all went to pot! I used to work full time Mon - Fri but now have Fridays off in exchange for working longer days Mon- Thurs :D. My problem is that I've fallen into the trap of leaving everything til Friday, meaning I don't get an extra day off at all cos I spend it catching up with the mess. I'm rubbish at getting organised so would really appreciate being given jobs for the day (and, like a big kid, winning those stars will motivate me I'm sure :rotfl:)

I also find that I never seem to have time to do anything other than the basic housework - so things like clearing out drawers and cupboards gets left til I've got a week off - which is a bit rubbish!

saffstar try working out little jobs you can do before/after work each day which will make Friday easier. It's amazing how quickly you can vacuum a few floors, sort a drawer or clean a bath (or similar) when you actually take notice of how long it takes. Time some little jobs, you can then work out what you can fit in. I usually sort a drawer in the time when dinner is cooking, clean the loo & sink while bathing the boys then clean the bath when they get out.
ajmoney, not being very diplomatic I'd ask him to leave....I get a little stroppy
Thanks for the hot water bottle info, soappie & boddy we don't have Asda locally but have a George, they'd sold out last week but will try there on Monday
grateful still be very careful, ice is not good in any car, I've had my 4x4s with snow/winter wellies on sideways on ice, the only thing that could help is studs and they are illegal here
Mumof2 hope DS feels better soon, I'm keeping a few frozen things in the garden
embb more is forecast tonight/tomorrow :(
kazm well done on cutting back the grocery spend, maybe try getting milk in town? As for sewing my Mam said the maching in Aldi looked good (I don't sew but she has for years professionally & pleasure)
Pollybear I ended up doing that yesterday, shovelling in snow/hail but I put th DW salt down & so far it's still clear
greenbee our local shops mainly turned into Coop and they haven't been getting deliveries. It's a shame people don't use them more often rather than just in emergencies. There used to be a great butchers, greengrocers/florist and general store here when I was little which are all gone now :(
rach/greenbee Waking boots, best pair, so comfy etc I've had for years are a cheap Hitec pair I bought when we were away as I'd forgotten my Karimoor ones. Under £30 and they are great. we have a shop called GoOutdoors about 25 miles away which is good. Coats I use a Sprayaway 3 in 1 which was a few hundred but fab, DP has a North Face windbreaker which he loves, even smart enough to wear for work, it was about £100 in the sale but well worth it. Walking poles I think we got his in the lakes too. Socks we're really short on walking ones, so been looking at those.
wilf well done to your young man getting that invite
froddy/schools hols & snow days I heard they were on about doing the reduced holidays because of snow days again, this used to happen years ago but they were saying if this sort of weather becomes regular they need to do something to get the balance right. Our children have had a week off now this term, 2 days last term and will probably be off again next week. People struggling to meet full time childcare costs they were not expecting & those having to take time off due to child care problems it's an absolute nightmare. No schools aren't babysitters but people work around what their children are supposed to be doing.

Got out of going to DPs club as the boys didn't want to go. I've ordered DP some walking gaiters to wear at work to stop the snow getting in the top of his boots and some motorcycle boot liners, Cold Killers Hot Socks, which a friend recomennded. Boys have fleeces on watching Narnia (Prince Caspian) sun is shining melting some snow but we're forecast another load tonight. DPs offered to return his friend in my car to the airport if his flight is going 3am I think. Actually other than the ordering stuff I haven't done much else, but I will soon as he'll be in in about an hour :o

I've just been rubbing my hands with some moisturiser, I've actually got huge blisters from shovelling snow :( ouch my poor delicate hands :rotfl: not used to hard manual work in the winter :o

My five things to achieve that I have put off and put off (well ok just 5 of the many but will do these first)

    1. Sort through the 2 clear plastic crates (ones on top of the fridge I don't move unless told)
    2. Sort through odd socks baskets properly, parting with the old ones to make a draught excluder (see I am inspired) I need to know what I can make the 'body' out of, I am making one for the back door as I don't want the curtain to drag on the floor (dog wripped last 2 that did) but want coverage so going to add one at the bottom.
    3. Organise the post Christmas pile - left over cards, gift wrap (another not buying any Kazm :o ) presents etc and figure out somewhere to keep them
    4. Sort the airing cupboard properly
    5. Sort through the 3 'gibble' boxes in the pantry

Ok, I need to do something that will make a big visual impact when he gets in so it looks like I have done something....hmmm.....I know laundry all sorted and upstairs that'll work.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
  • Will do, lil_me!

tooch they are saying on the radio that snow absence where the school is open will be marked "authorised absent" with the same effect as if the child is off sick.

Thanks Gratefu and everyone else...we are able to get to the school, walking VERY carefully but it was shut most of last week(only open 1 morning!!) and not sure about tomorrow yet.
  • Thanks lil_me - I'll get on to that :) I think that's part of my problem - I just assume I haven't got time when even if I just managed to half do something, it'd at leat be half done. I'm really looking forward to getting started on this week's lists and will definitely try to 'double task' like you suggested when I'm cooking etc :D
