Well didn't manage any school work yet - but did do a seriously big 'we haven't done one since before Christmas' food shop. Spent a very unfrugal £85 but reckon that will do us just over 2 weeks and did include calpol and smellies (we were getting a bit stinky!) Dh is off to the tip and has decluttered 30 books off the bookshelf to go to charity, emily is off to get 20 this afternoon and I reckon I can get about 20 too - our biggest hoarding issue is books :o

Am going to be very proactive this week and et me a list sorted tonight so I can do kitchen floor tonight once ikklies are out of the way

I did do tax credit reminders.. and will do so again.. if only to remind myself lol. We have periodically had update spreadsheets but I think this could be incorporated into the filing sessions. I do think it is important to brag about debt decluttering here.. such as Jills credit card and my overdraft.. for the acknowledgement of the hard work that goes into it and the huge achievement that it is... the same as we boast about our childrens achievements. I don't think this is the place for debt busting either really.

    So..
    1. is an ebay/flinging challenge in order? No stars will be awarded for any of this to minimise Toots work. Obviously it will also be optional and in addition to the main list.
    2. Tops of appliances etc I would expect to be included in decluttering worksurfaces.. how can you properly wipe over an appliance if it is half buried in junk?
    3. Lightbulb wiping.. hmm.. could be added..
    4. Tidying of linen/airing/under stair cupboards is usually added every couple of weeks so if you stick around it will get done!
    5. Washing up.. that is a daily job and should be included there I think? But I can add it is necessary. It could be a MACAW??
    6. I liked the challenge of choosing 5 things ourselves which were individual to us and doing those as the weekly challenge, I thought everyone made fabulous and valuable progress in areas of their home they had neglected which didn't regularly come up.. decorating, conservatories, small DIY tasks were all in there.. would this be a suitable challenge over the coming weeks?
We had corned dog hash with dippy bread for dinner today too.. NYOMNYOM.. good rib sticky food.. and now I have the munchies and am considering dashing off for a round of toast.

How about.. trying a new hobby or refinding the love of an old one? Is that too off-topic? Learning about something new? research, knitting, sewing, dance.. whatever.. just something individual. I would like to get back into knitting tbh, I've done very little since Tiddles was about 2 and I really enjoyed doing my yuletide gnome.

I'm going back to look over other ideas so don't think I've not noted them.

This is a very good post Pigpen. I agree in a way about the debt busting BUT the DFW board (here we go, flame me now!) i found patronising and it was a case of "post your I&E so we can drill into it and then make you feel about 6". I didnt like the tone and it put me off MSE for quite a while. We went BR which was NOT an easy solution but I felt like a leper, IYSWIM.
I love your idea of the hobby, I have neglected my cross stitch for months and want to pick it back up again. This board has given me a clean home again and more importantly time back for me. Being a depressive (but on good tablets) routine is very important for me and I can willingly beat myself up over the smallest thing. I also hate surprises, we went to pizza hut for hubby's birthday and I fretted for an hour about it.
    Anyway rambling now,

    thank you for listening.

PS - What does anyone think of the sewing machine they have for £50 in Aldi at the mo. DD really enjoyed sewing yesterday and am thinking about it for her birthday pressie
I have no idea about the quality of this particular machine, but the usual advice (from those more knowledgeable than me) is that the best way to get a good inexpensive machine is to go to your local sewing machine shop and get their advice on a 'pre-owned' one that has been traded in.

    3. I liked the challenge of choosing 5 things ourselves which were individual to us and doing those as the weekly challenge

Combining the flinging challenge, MACAW and '5 things personal challenge' would be a lot to keep track of, but I really think it would give me the focus for everything I'm hoping to do, so they'd get my vote. I've got spare space in my diary every week, so I can start making plans already.

I made a start on the Wii fit last night and loved it. I couldn't believe how many days it was since I last went on. :o My 101 list didn't go quite as well, because I couldn't find the notebook with stuff I'd written down previously. Some of the things are so complex that they'd probably split into lots of separate items anyway, so it will take me a while to have the list set up properly - don't want to set myself up for failure. I'm setting myself a deadline of the end of the February half-term holiday for having the list done. However, I will start counting the 1001 days from tomorrow, because I'll start working on some of the things straight away, if that makes sense.

Best get on with todays plans, though:
    MARKING
    cook tea
    wash dishes/DW
laundry (WM, TD, iron urgent stuff)
Note to self: 101 list, Wii fit, MACAW etc planning are NOT part of today's urgent list and MUST NOT be embarked on until said MARKING is completed! NOW GET ON WITH IT!

Hope you all have a good day.

    Hi all :hello:

I am a regular MSE'r but new to this board and am determined to 'streamline' my life this year :D. Welcome.. :hello:

I've looked at some of the threads and have a couple of questions if you don't mind ?

    1) The list on page 1 is Monday - Friday, are the weekends days off? :rotfl: The idea is if we do all our flying during the week, we have the weekend off to spend time with our families etc. Sometimes we have a weekend list, but its not compulsary.
    2) I am employed 30 hours per week but based at home and although I can be a little flexible it is pretty much office hours. How does this work for those of you who are employed, or are most on here SAHM ? Lots of us work full time, Pigpen normally puts the list up the night before i.e. Mondays list on Sunday night, so on sunday night, I will put the cleaning things I need in that room and do some of the little bits and bobs. In the morning before work I do put a wash on for that room and do 10 minutes in that room if I can/have time. When I come home from work I will try to do the bulk of the stuff in the evening and then move the cleaning supplies onto the next room when the list goes up..... and so on and so forth.

    3) I have a husband and three teenage children - do you 'allocate' parts of the lists to your family members and if so what works for you ? I only have me, a hyper dog and a 7 year old DS. DS is given set jobs like picking up the washing from his room, and his toys from all the rooms in the house etc. Some of the other flyladies have teenagers though and would be better placed to advise you!!

Hope you don't mind me starting off my first thread on here with questions but really do want to see how I can fit this into my life and I love the idea.

I hope some of the above helps, but once you get started you will figure out the best way to make it work for you xx

I do this quite often on a Sunday - cleanse face, exfoliate, stick on a face mask and then fly in a room to pass the time on :D

Really? Our holidays are set by LEA apart from the 5 INSET days. I've never known us take days off of holidays in lieu of snow days  Pupils are definitely not marked as absent if school is closed though. If we are open but they can't get in because their transport is cancelled, they are counted as authorised absences.

That fits in with current practice here, too.
