Hve only skim read but wanted to say thanks for all the advice about the school closure affecting attendance xx The school sometimes closes at 2:30 before big hols and as I finish work in the same school at 1:15, I used to take DD out with me but then I realised that the day counts as 2 attendances and DD was counted as having half day off when she only had an hour off!!!! needless to say I don't do that anymore!!

Sure I also saw a Happy Birthday while skimming.....Holly?

rach/greenbee/Mumof2. I love outdoor shops and am living in my walking stuff at the minute. Im looking at those Merrell shoes as I need a new walking pair. The fact you have walked miles in them is a good sign. Ive also been on craghoppers siteand ordered winter and summer trousers

I bought a pair of regatta low walking boots which had isotex (their version of cheaper goretex) from Go Outdoors on New Year's Eve after I had to give up with my more expensive pair which never fitted right and I bought them at a knock down price :o

Thank goodness I did as I have worn them every day since then - very good soles on the ice and waterproof.

£19.99 bargain - i bought them for walking around town in bad weather and pottering about in the countryside (nothing strenous)

    Hi all :hello:

I am a regular MSE'r but new to this board and am determined to 'streamline' my life this year :D.
Me too. DH is very good at housework, having lived on his own from when he was 17 to 48, but I don't feel I do my share, in fact I'm rubbish. I blame the fact my Mum didn't do much, until her mother came to stay, and then housework involved lots of running round, screaming, shouting and crying.

    1) The list on page 1 is Monday - Friday, are the weekends days off? :rotfl:
    or for playing catch up...

    2) I am employed 30 hours per week but based at home and although I can be a little flexible it is pretty much office hours. How does this work for those of you who are employed, or are most on here SAHM ?
I work 32 hours a week, plus some mystery shopping in my spare time. Married, no kids, and three pampered cats. I've only been on this thread a week, but I love it, and it does work for me. I tried the flylady emails a few years ago and they didn't work for me.

    Hi all :hello:

I am a regular MSE'r but new to this board and am determined to 'streamline' my life this year :D.

I've looked at some of the threads and have a couple of questions if you don't mind ?

    1) The list on page 1 is Monday - Friday, are the weekends days off? :rotfl:
    2) I am employed 30 hours per week but based at home and although I can be a little flexible it is pretty much office hours. How does this work for those of you who are employed, or are most on here SAHM ?

    3) I have a husband and three teenage children - do you 'allocate' parts of the lists to your family members and if so what works for you ?

Hope you don't mind me starting off my first thread on here with questions but really do want to see how I can fit this into my life and I love the idea.

I am new too - so welcome from one newbie to another :)

From what I have seen, those who work try to do the household jobs as they go along, then do a 'catch-up' at the weekends. The more you do during the week, the more free time you have at the weekend - seems fair to me!

I also work from home and it can take up all 24hours a day if I let it. It also generates a lot of rubbish and very little time for cleaning/tidying. What I found worked for me was between each work task, I got up and did 15 minutes or so cleaning. Didnt get through the whole list this week, but I have made big inroads - I started by saying my house is REALLY messy (as bad as some Aggie visits to clean). Little and often can be the key because you dont feel like you have done huge amounts yet when you look back at the end of the day/week, you realise just how much has been accomplished.

Dont have teenagers at home (unless OH counts), so cant help with that one.

So if you want to keep your grocery shopping down - WALK :D
That's what I do - when i'm working from home a daily walk to the village shop gets me out of the house and I can only buy what I can fit in my backpack!

I bought DH some base layers for part of his Chrissie present and he said they have been brilliant (think 12 hour night shifts in this weather !!!!)

They had ladies in the shop when I bought them as well
Thanks... I've been busy buying... like the idea of bamboo.

PS - What does anyone think of the sewing machine they have for £50 in Aldi at the mo. DD really enjoyed sewing yesterday and am thinking about it for her birthday pressie
As crafty says, try for second hand. If the shop that used to be just round the corner from the cinema isn't still there, then I can check with my mum where the place she gets hers (and mine) serviced is. We were thinking of trading our two ancient heavy machines in for one lighter one...

Yup... I've been on and ordered trousers too :D So I'll have to do LOTS of walking this year... (actually, as all my old ones died last year, I need to do this anyway... and I realised that the boots which have split - I'm still wearing them and my feet aren't wet yet - are over 10 years old and have done a huge number of miles, so not a disaster really).
I have no idea about the quality of this particular machine, but the usual advice (from those more knowledgeable than me) is that the best way to get a good inexpensive machine is to go to your local sewing machine shop and get their advice on a 'pre-owned' one that has been traded in.
well said... and there are several places near kaz that should be able to help ;):D

Not much done yet today... DW has had a tantrum, so I've cleaned the filter, pulled out the stuff that is clean and bunged the rest back in. I'll fill it up again now (just had lunch - chicken stock, noodles, spinach) and hope it behaves this time. Fire is going nicely, which is preventing me from doing paperwork, as I've switched the heating off and am using the stove to heat the sitting room. I might read the paper... which I had to buy for lighting the fire :D

  • Caught up with thread! yay!

Ok been pondering on how to fit in what we need to do (all us flyladies) and how to make things easy in that respect for the Flylady Angels without whom, as we all know, our houses would still be a mess and there would be much headless chicken running.

The one thing I am very guilty of is not chilling out and spending time for myself.
So what I will be doing is a 4 a week challenge, personal to me, of 4 hours of cross stitch. Doesnt matter when or where as long as I have done it by Sunday evening.

Very baby steps but a big thing for me!
