Any tips gratefully received! I like Bridgedale socks too, and definitely need some thicker ones. I also need to think about thinner base layers - and decent jackets, as my midweight jacket is OK (but getting old... needs a wash and re-proof) but I don't have a lightweight one and am currently using an ancient (and very ugly!) ski jacket. Otherwise I just have a very, very elderly barbour.

and need to get some lightweight ones too (I like the look of the brasher Lithium GTX).

I actually don't have tons of walking stuff apart from socks :D. I have one pair of craghopper zip off trousers and have until now just worn old t-shirts but I'll now be wearing my new tech tops which should stop the rubbing I sometimes get under my arms. I just usually have a quicksilver fleece that I've had for years but my mum's getting me a nice craghopper breathable one from her local outlet for my birthday. :) I have one thermal base layer but it's a teenagers one from when I was a bit slimmer so it's too short at the moment. Jackets I have a berghaus glissade jacket with zip in fleece which is my main winter coat, plus a smaller packdown waterproof for the summer. I bought the blacks own (technicals) one which I think was a false economy as it's not as compact (or nice!) as DH's berghaus one, though it was about £100 cheaper I think. I have these shoes which I'm on my second pair of and have walked hundreds of miles in! I also have a leki pole which I wouldn't be without!

DH now up and in the shower. I need to go to the supermarket again this morning as i forgot half what I needed yesterday and my plain yoghurt was off this morning (well, it was a new one but 3 days out of date and lid blown up, with organic I didn't want to risk it!

Next job is to strip the bed and get the wm on.

Hello to all on this lovely thread. I have not had the best week as I have hurt my back, and ended up in the A+E, could not move, only found some comfort in standing up, so most of the jobs that i have done are like ironing for hours, I am looking for things to iron now!!!!:eek::eek:

I over did it on Tuesday with 30+cm of snow clearing, moving heavy sofas on my own, turn increadibly heavy mattresses on my own, and then just lost the ability to move all of a sudden, I shall rest as instructed by the doc, the med is very drowsy, shall try to work harder next week. love to all those who and encourage on this board. :T:T:T

Those merrells are something I've had my eye on for a while :D. Everyone who has them loves them... I've got two walking poles (bought new ones in the lake district about a year ago and they've been a godsend in this snow!). And that's reminded me that I've got a friend who might be able to get me the stuff I need at trade price, if I can work out exactly what I need :D Something to work on... As you say, it's not about having masses of stuff, more the right stuff, and this weather has made it clear I don't have the right stuff... (I bet I have fewer pairs of socks than you do!)

I really MUST go out in the snow now... before the shop is completely empty!

Hugs to those under the weather at the moment and having problems with families - close and extended family.

It's trying hard to snow here and it's now doing more than it was earlier in the morning when it was just a few odd flakes. As I'm looking out the window I can see a little blackbird eating the spare mashed potato I put out this morning for the birds - got a bit of bread and butter pudding on the bottom bit of the table which I'm sure the birds will find.

Poor DS isn't well - he's full of a cold, grumpy, very hot and his cough is back (he had a cough for 10 weeks and we only shifted it 3 weeks ago :( ). We're using his inhaler straight away as that does seem to help the cough, but he just looks so hot, snotty nosed and generally poorly. I gave him some Calpol 15 mins ago and it's starting to kick in - he's watching Go Diego Go right now and think it could be a TV day for him. Poor little man.

Just about to put the oven on as got beef for lunch then must go and make the beds

    Flying wise, I've:
emptied DW and put in breakfast dishes
washed up dishes DH promised to do last night (but forgot )
took down washing from yesterday and put away, unloaded WM

It does get easier when you get into the routine of doing things doesn't it - it used to take me ages but now I go on autopilot and it's done before I think of it.

Greenbee, forgot to say but I have some lovely thermal trousers (got 3 pairs and I'm living in them at the moment!) - they're all Craghoppers; I have 1 pair of Kiwi winter lined and 2 pairs of Pika winter lined and they come in long length too (essential for me cos I'm tall!). I prefer the Pika as they're cut lower and have more pockets. I think I'm right in saying they're on sale in the Craghoppers website for £22.50 each. Just thought you'd be interested.

Not sur if anyone still her but A QUESTION TO TEaCHERS(OR ANYONE IN THE KNOW), someone(sorry, can't remember!) was talking about the schools and their records due to schools closing and their attendance records.....anyway, what I want to know, as a parent, when we get the end of year reports, are these snow days taken as absent or do they reduce the no. of school days ???
    TIA xx
If the school is closed then the child is not marked as absent. But usually the summer holiday will be marginally shorter. I gave up teaching 10 years ago, but when I did the county council set the school holidays for the whole area, and then the individual schools chose when to have the teacher training days, and also have a number (5?) of days which are usually included in the summer holiday, but can get used when the school has to close, for example on polling days, if the heating breaks or if they close to due snow.

Here is my list for today:
    Sunday Jobs
    1. Photo on H
    2. Something on eBay, photo taken
    3. List a book
    4. Online banking
    5. trampoline
    6. Lunch ready
    7. Work clothes out
    8. Sort pills for week
    9. prepare snacks for week
    10. Measure sofa
    11. sort out T’s bond
    12. Attack pampas grass
    13. Dolls house cabinet stand on FB
