Have carried on fluttering slowly today and just been up to remake our bed. Was putting pillow covers on and saw something black inside one of the pillows (new at Christmas for mil staying over). On closer inspection it is a 3/4 inch long metal screw :eek::eek:
It is the kind with a big head and big flat end rather than a sharp one iyswim but whoever was sleeping with their head on it is definitely not a princess! Is going straight back to the shop tomorrow, although I don't still have receipt and if no joy it's getting posted back to Silentnight (so not a cheapy pillow here!)

So thanks to this thread dh (or I) wont have to sleep on a bumpy pillow tonight!

Pigpen, sorry I am naughty, unless you say to clear the top of the fridge when you put 'wipe appliances' I don't tend to
Oh soappie, I forgot to ask did you see the Danger Men programme about the Red Arrows, loved it, the boys got sooooo excited!
sexymouse, try Freecycle/Freegle for air beds/guest beds, some buy them for festive guests and never use them again. People are using airbeds for sledges here.
Mudbath pleased you had a good day, my DS2 wants to see Chumpicks Two as he calls it for his birthday too....I must find out when it finishes.
carol ((hugs)) sounds like you could do with one or 2 honey.
Dorastar I'd contact silent night directly, so many complaints don't make it back to manufacturers and they need to know

I've still not braved those accounts, I think it's a tomorrow night job. Bills I thought I had are wrong, well some are, got another incorrect final gas bill grrrrrr....just about 80 units out this time but the bill should only be for 30 units and it's starting to wind me up (been happening since October) I've just sent an email rather than another phone call just yet, see if I get any more joy.

DW emptied and filters out soaking, switched SC off....oooops forgot I left it on low, bottles rinsed as plan to do a few bottles of water just incase of a pipe freeze.

I've put the heating off for a bit, I know I said about pipes freezing but when it's on loads it seems to be playing up more. I rang the council but because it only does the no heating/water thing occasionally it's not a priority job. It keeps dropping pressure by a lot so I am assuming a leak somewhere. Anyway it's having a break, I've checked the boys are wrapped up (fleeces which they now carry round all day and duvets) then turned it down for a little while. I will put it back on before DP comes in (hopefully by 1am as I can't sleep for worry) as he's got only occasional heating in the taxi.....he's cursing the cab especially now the new one is ordered.

YES I DO MISS MACAW Challenges, that is one thing I never kept up which made a large difference. I liked 'borrowing' other peoples too...some good ideas you can relate to.

We're out first thing to run DPs club for the ones who brave the snow, we had 14 last week some who travelled from Wetherby which is insane, but for that reason he doesn't want to let them down. We should be fine getting there, he's collecting one of his friends who goes in the morning as his car won't get through the snow then coming back for me and the boys which gives me a chance to get the boys ready without him moaning on. I think I might still make sure everything is ready for the morning anyway while I am still up.
One day I might be more organised...........

I know you've only just moved, so won't know what the insulation situation is, but pipes are unlikely to freeze if you've got the heating on occasionally, as the thermal mass of the house is quite high and so it takes a long time for internal temperatures to get low enough for pipes to freeze in an occupied house.

Check for dripping taps that will cause waste pipes to freeze, and if you're really worried, leave the heating on at night but turn the wall thermostat to 10 degrees and TRVs if you have them to the * (frost) setting. Obviously make sure you all wrap up warm yourselves, with as many hot water bottles as you can cope with.

I've found this table which I think will work as a sideboard in my kitchen. Need to be brave, and order that, new walking boots, log baskets etc - if I just get it over and done with in one go it'll probably be best! Something to sort out tomorrow...

That sounds like a good idea but a house with 30+ air freshners in?!?!?!?!? :rotfl::rotfl:In fact I need to count the odd socks, my friend used to love (V odd woman!) pairing socks for me, thought it was cute all the different sizes  She would report how many odd socks were left each week when I got back from ringing with Miss A. The following week I would get a star if we had managed to decrease the number. Some weeks were good, others atrocious!

Decluttered a couple of heartbeats from HDD and also Miss A and W to bed. Going to have a stella and watch Casualty.

Am an hour behind, but, if you think of drawers/wardobes/ hanging on radiaters.....we'll have air fresheners for life( cause obv. there will be more odd socks!!!!) so money saving and recycling all in one go xx
  • Woohoo - all ironing up to date again - so now away to my pit,

    see you tomorrow

    Moam
Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

greenbee thank you for your reply. I thought that the freezing wouldn't be an issue but a friend who lives locally has frozen pipes and has her heating on (she has 3 little ones) which to me is just mad, but now I am 'cautious'. Our pipes go under the pretty much empty space under the floor I think with no insulation that I am aware of. There is no insulation in the loft as we don't have one. House is prefab, concrete boxes stuck together, I think the grading was C on the pre tenancy report. We don't have TRVs apart from the one you sent me :D which is in my room as I hate it too hot for bed. We have been leaving the wall thermostat at about 16 as my other issue is the lizards, so I can't let it drop too low (14-15C minimum in the tanks). But when the wall says 16 in the dining area (all one space) it's 14C in here (like now) and still not on so I think it might be wrong. The house is quite open plan so just heating LR & boys rooms not possible as we did previously, no fire just radiators. We only have 2 water bottles, I picked them up the other day as last years all had leakages......£6 in Sainsbugs eeeek but only ones I have seen so far as things like that are going out of stock here fast. Going to look for more next week. I've checked all taps, never thought of that but I have put a little soda crystals in each hole too as those seem to melt ice. I've got door curtains ordered at Dunelm as back door is in LR/DR/Stairs/Landing open space, DP put the rail up, we were going to just stick with blinds at windows but he suggested it (odd I know)

I've found most things for tomorrow inc centre keys phew, going to pot my CBH up then look for something to try to keep DPs feet warm at work, he's got 3 pairs of socks on tonight inc one thermal plus his walking boots and he's saying they are freezing.

    So..
    1. is an ebay/flinging challenge in order? No stars will be awarded for any of this to minimise Toots work. Obviously it will also be optional and in addition to the main list.
    1. Yes please

Washing up.. that is a daily job and should be included there I think? But I can add it is necessary. It could be a MACAW??

Oh, and something terrible has happened, I'm turning into my father and shouting at the news. Why don't they just report stories and stop the dramatics. Drives me mad!

Signing out.... a grumpy old woman:rotfl:xx
Totally agree, the whole "I was standing down the road and I didn't see anything" routine is so annoying! And the our reporter in the next but one country who knows less about it than we do but we'll film him standing around outside an official looking building waffling for a while thing... GRRR!!!

Rose - please to hear that you have some solutions to your money worries. Good luck with the shop! I sounds as if it is going well, so keep building up the stock (remember, every time you feel like eating chocolate, make yourself knit till the craving passes!)
Yes it is going well - I've sold 11 things in just over a month! I am adding a new item nearly every day so the stock is building up quite well - and the more stock I have and the more sales I have, it should snowball! It's quite exciting to be able to contribute some money to our household budget! I like your tip about knitting instead of eating chocolate too xx

    {Mudbath reminds herself that next time she sees someone stopped at a traffic light dusting the inside of their car she must wave - it must be valli!!!:rotfl:}

Mudbath I shout at the news quite a lot, when it’s not NEW! Sometimes it’s olds – we have heard this story 10 times before! And I also dust inside my car when sitting at traffic lights! Send me your 11th odd sock - don't waste it

Helen good to know that printing off the lists works well for you – hopefully it will encourage us to do more! I know what you mean about spending too much time reading the thread – I’m terrible for that!

Tooch glad you are feeling better

Greenbee sorry to hear your mum had a fall, glad she is ok

Jjef I wear odd socks too – it’s fun to find ones that coordinate!

Toots – thanks for the reminder re Housing Benefit and Council Tax benefit – I will get on to the lady who is meant to be helping us. She’s been really busy but promised to help me to get started with doing DH’s accounts. I feel so guilty that my Dad gave us the money, he is so kind but I don’t want to have to rely on him as he has his own worries. If she can’t help by the end of Jan I will try and find another way to get started

Soappie thanks I am feeling a bit less down now. How is the book going?

Hugs Mummyof5 it’s so worrying when hubby can’t work – I can sympathise xx

Pigpen I loved the 5 things challenge – it was really good so I would love to see that come back again.
