Re adding financial/debt tasks to the Flylady list, sorry Piggers, Greenbee and Toots I'm not sure about that. That, surely, is what the "debt free wannabe" type threads are for? I think I would hate finance to become a regular topic or task here.

After all, the original OS way was no debt - or at the worst hire purchase for the odd major expense like a sofa - or the wedding ring down the pawn brokers until the next payday. Ebay can be included because that's part of decluttering the excess stuff from the house in the most lucrative way...and perhaps a celebratory message from someone if they've decluttered a credit card to zero.

In many ways, in my view, this is an escapist thread. It allows us to concentrate on our homes and making them nice for ourselves and our families, if we have any, regardless of any financial miseries we may or may not have. I personally would like to keep it that way.
sorry soappie -you are right as usual - I was being very selfish re the debt thing and i tend to forget that there are other threads out especially the debt free wanabee one as i have never had a good experience there!

we do need to keep paperwork up to date and tidy and that should include financial records so i will have to use that as my reminder instead :D and find some other way of keeping myself on top of money.

ok stars are done and I am signing off for tonight - I want to read before bed

special love and hugs to LadyL xx

You're not the only one...... luckily, apart from her OCD (matching pegs, ironing everything that she can get away with, alphabetising her CDs...) she's not that bad once you get used to her!

There is nothing wrong with matching pegs or having your CDs, DVDs and games in alphabetical order (and in date order if you have more than one CD by the same artist!). Nor is it wrong to organise your factual books by topic and your fiction by author :p

I am also not sure this is the place for debt management type tasks as they are not necessarily relevant to everyone on this thread - maybe something in the extras if people feel real strongly about it.

I made 3 portions of pasta, broad beans, peas, veggie bacon pieces and sun dried tomato sauce :D Yummy! I have lots of meals frozen now - very useful if i ever get back to work!

Rainbow leader phoned earlier to cancel Monday's meeting as the pavements and most roads are bad up there (our meeting place is in a hut through woods on the army base!). Since then, it has apparently started snowing up there too!

I spent an hour sorting my bedroom and chucking stuff / putting it in charity bag, etc. I still have some clothes to be ruthless with but the bedside cabinets, dressing table and ottoman are done and I have 2 empty little drawers :D

    Evening all

Been out all day doing various bits. We have got rid of our huge backlog of rubbish and recycling as we've had no collections in ages. Couldn't really take the green bin of cardboard/food/garden waste but at least the rest is gone.

Boddy - glad you Mum was full of laughter

Careful - so sorry to hear about your Da

Lil_me and Sexy - what angels you both are

Piggers great news on the overdraft

Rose good news on the cash

No more snow here today. No real thaw either but the roads once you get out of the side streets are pretty clear.

thrifty I use a 6.5 litre slow cooker pan so this will seem a lot (but it makes zillions of portions for me to freeze :) )

500g bag of dried soup/broth/country veg mix
150g (possibly more) additional pearl barley
    100g additional lentils
    6-8 medium size spuds diced
3 large carrots chopped (more if you don't put other veg in)
2-3 cans corned beef (I remove the fat off the outside as I don't like it) depends how meaty/expensive you want it
    2 litres veg stock

Then any extra root veg (I like swede the best) or peas, I sometimes even put in small pasta shapes, pulses etc. Some make it with baked beans instead but I like it this way. Cook for a few hours, top up with more veg stock if needed (especially if not in a slow cooker as it looses moisture) serve with crusty bread or dumplings, even just on it's own as it's yum. I'm going to have another bowl in a mo. Oh I've made this with bacon/ham, chicken & turkey too instead of corned beef.

Done some more flying, found my blanket which is a start. DW emptied. Cooker wiped. Cleared the back steps...again! Folded some more laundry and fluff all else. Building myself up to tackle accounts.
One day I might be more organised...........

Loads of great ideas given for the lists over the coming weeks. I think the financial stuff can be handy if it applies to lots of people - like renew your tax credits/fill in your tax returns. Ebaying is decluttering so definitely counts for me as does filling sorting paperwork, creating folders for important documents etc. I often will add bits to my extras like compare insurance prices/check interest rates/check online accounts if I need to do it.

I need to look into this, too. I don't really have the time to get involved in more than one thread, and I value this one too much to give it up. Also, I've often disliked the tone of posts on other boards.

I've started my spending diary and will incorporate other tasks (sorting a budget, organising financial records, cutting costs, repayment plan for CCs, planning saving etc) in my 101 in 1001 list. I am also going to write particular jobs into my diary, e.g. for holidays, to ensure I remember to do them. In fact, completing the 101 list could be on the agenda for tonight. One of the jobs will be to get hold of Martin's 'money diet' book, which will hopefully help me to work out an action plan.

I did do tax credit reminders.. and will do so again.. if only to remind myself lol. We have periodically had update spreadsheets but I think this could be incorporated into the filing sessions. I do think it is important to brag about debt decluttering here.. such as Jills credit card and my overdraft.. for the acknowledgement of the hard work that goes into it and the huge achievement that it is... the same as we boast about our childrens achievements. I don't think this is the place for debt busting either really.

    So..
    1. is an ebay/flinging challenge in order? No stars will be awarded for any of this to minimise Toots work. Obviously it will also be optional and in addition to the main list.
    2. Tops of appliances etc I would expect to be included in decluttering worksurfaces.. how can you properly wipe over an appliance if it is half buried in junk?
    3. Lightbulb wiping.. hmm.. could be added..
    4. Tidying of linen/airing/under stair cupboards is usually added every couple of weeks so if you stick around it will get done!
    5. Washing up.. that is a daily job and should be included there I think? But I can add it is necessary. It could be a MACAW??
    6. I liked the challenge of choosing 5 things ourselves which were individual to us and doing those as the weekly challenge, I thought everyone made fabulous and valuable progress in areas of their home they had neglected which didn't regularly come up.. decorating, conservatories, small DIY tasks were all in there.. would this be a suitable challenge over the coming weeks?
We had corned dog hash with dippy bread for dinner today too.. NYOMNYOM.. good rib sticky food.. and now I have the munchies and am considering dashing off for a round of toast.

How about.. trying a new hobby or refinding the love of an old one? Is that too off-topic? Learning about something new? research, knitting, sewing, dance.. whatever.. just something individual. I would like to get back into knitting tbh, I've done very little since Tiddles was about 2 and I really enjoyed doing my yuletide gnome.

I'm going back to look over other ideas so don't think I've not noted them.

    {Mudbath reminds herself that next time she sees someone stopped at a traffic light dusting the inside of their car she must wave - it must be valli!!!:rotfl:}

Frodders - not asked you for a while - how's your wrist doing? I'm definitely more nervous on ice/snow even though that's not how I did mine!

Helen - thanks for your message to DS. He was quite worried about your DH and wants him to know it does get better. Hope you're ok and not too stressed. Hugs xx

DS had a lovely day and has just been decluttered to bed. DD has suggested that tomorrow should be birthday boxing day and we could all have a PJ day. I love that idea! So tomorrow will be s/s ing and just generally relaxing and chilling out. Sounds good to me.

On the odd sock front. I'm only allowed 10 odd socks. If I get an eleventh I have to throw one out. Socks are so annoying! There, didn't I add a valid argument to the sock debate:rotfl:.

    Hugs to everyone xx
