Nokia N900 Owners Thread

:(I just want to have a bit of a moan, i like the device (when it works) but I pre ordered mine and finally recieved it on December 8 (the day before I was due to go on a long holiday to Oz over xmas and new year).
Whilst i was away i became aware that the device would reboot itself randomly and also would shut itself down when i opened the keyboard. After 17 reboots if you havent shut it down properly it will stop booting. So i was away with a brick that wouldnt boot
I emailed Mobile Phones Direct about this issue on my blackberry (who i bought it from) but I and they couldn't do much as i was in Australia.
Upon my return to the UK I have contacted both Nokia.co.uk and also MPD to get a replacement phone, this is a hardware fault (i have since reflashed the device and upgraded the firmware but the issue still exists) which was confirmed when i took it onto my local Nokia Care Centre. Nobody wants to take responsibility for this and i am extremely disapointed by the customer service from MPD and Nokia.
I can see me getting a Motorola Milestone if Nokia cant sort this out and I can see why they will continue to loose ground in the phon market against Apple and others.
If you can buy this phone from somewhere other than MPD then I would suggest that you do as MPD have just left a very bitter taste
.
Right if there is a fault then you must tell the people you bought it from, send it in writing. They must get it repaired or replace it under UK law.Kind Regards

As for VOIP I have mine set up for Sipgate - much better than Skype. Very simple to configure and the quality is excellent, you just need an internet connection for it to work. The quality is as good as the mobile connection if you use your network's connection, if you use WiFi it is as good as a cordless phone on a landline.
At least Sipgate use the industry standard "SIP" protocol for VOIP which is a properly documented internet protocol. Skype use a "non standard" protocol, so I'd much rather use an accepted protocol. It's the equivalent of microsoft trying to use non-standard browser protocols and the web needs set standards to work properly.0 -

Microsoft do, have you ever seem the performance of IE on the Acid test, it gets 23/100.0 -

unless 'unlimitied' internet is included as part of your contract it will be expensive no matter who it is. Just go to the website for the network you are interesting in and check some of their tarrifs. That will give you an idea of how much they are likely to charge. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -
I have had 1 week of disapointment from my new N900. I had been really looking forward to getting it and feel that I got it on a decent upgrade deal from Vodafone. Since I got it I've had lots of problems - including it regularly turning itself off (not reboting - which I've seen lots of thread about on Maemo discussion forums). It does this during phone calls and also, suruptitiously when it still has plenty of life in the battery. I can only get it back on again after removing the battery and reinserting it. I don't think this is a software issue - I have updated the firmware to the latest version. Didn't believe that going through the pain barrier of flashing it would sort this out. I've had it 1 week as of this Saturday. What are my rights on this ?0

7 working days from the date of delivery, you can return this and I think you can cancel contract up to 14 days.
I re flashed mine as I was having battery problems and all was sorted and been a great phone.Kind Regards

Thanks Bill, will email Vodafone as a starter for 10 tonight, then follow up with a letter. Think mine is more seriously injured than flashing can sort ! Shame, it's really put me off the phone. Glad yours is ok now.0

Hope you get sorted. I've had mine two weeks or so and not had any problems it must just be a bad phone you got.:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0
