Hi Thanks for the info. :T
A silly question I know but can you tell me please is their line rental +VAT or is that the total price you pay each month?

I pay £45 per month, 12 month contract, 900 mins, phone was £69.99, but got £60 quidco.
    Kind Regards
    Bill

I ordered and got the phone next day and they where helpful. I called next day and asked what was going on, if I hadnt then it may have taken days. It ended up that vodafone wanted a copy of my driving licence.
Maybe so Bill but as you will have seen by the many many threads regarding them on here any problems are a nightmare to sort out with them.
Whilst you were prepared to take the risk theres probably others who wouldn't take the chance ...esp reading some of the problems some people have had with some of the phones it would be reassuring to have a decent company to fall back on should you need it ....for warned is for armed as they say :rotfl:
It's not just about the money

What I;d like to know, if you get a n900 eg upgrade via CPW website, can you still downgrade tariffs in 9 months?

    Scott

I do not think they will let you unless you pay them money if you paid anything less than the full handset price. Their sales T&C's state:

    "Minimum Period" means the minimum period of 12, 18 or 24 months or any other period agreed between us (as the case may be) for the provision of the Services under your Airtime Contract beginning the day your Equipment is connected to the Network or, in the case of a Handset Upgrade, the day the Handset Upgrade becomes effective;

    ...

8(ii) you move onto a tariff which offers a lower rate monthly subscription during the Minimum Period....and the relevant tariff includes a discounted Mobile Phone/Smart Phone, you must pay any other charges under the Airtime Contract. In addition to your other obligations under this clause 8.1, we also reserve the right to require you either to:
8.1.1. return the Mobile Phone/Smart Phone to us by sending it special delivery to Direct Returns, CPW Logistics Centre, Bilston Road, Wednesbury, W Midlands, WS10 7JN; or
8.1.2. keep the Mobile Phone/Smart Phone, in which case you agree to pay us the amount of the discount being the handset only purchase price of the Mobile Phone/Smart Phone less the amount paid by you at the time of purchase for the Mobile Phone/Smart Phone.

This is really important to note as I do not think many people have cottoned onto this. Remember CPW also have subsidiaries such as Mobiles.co.uk and e2save, similar terms are applied here.

I got my phone from Nokia Retail (Mobile Phones Direct) and they do not have such a term. Buying on Vodafone, I am allowed to step down one price plan per month after month 9 on a 24 month contract. Give them a call to confirm if you want to verify this, however I would stay away from CPW's tariffs if you are thinking of getting a cheap handset on a higher monthly cost then downgrading. I doubt you will be allowed to.
  • Me again! Seems I stirred up a bit of a hornets nest!
Thanks for all the feedback........... I think I'll stick with Nokia Retail (Mobile phones Direct).
So same question again......can anyone tell me please is their line rental inclusive of VAT?
    Thanks
  • Yes it is. My advice is to view all tariffs not just their selected ones, weigh it up against handset costs and what you get for it. For example I use more web but few texts or calls, yet wanted a cheaper handset. Remembering you can step down one step per month after month 9, I added up all line rental and handset costs then divided by the contract months to get a true cost and not just the screenscraper deal.

TopCashBack gives money off too for MPD.

Nokia retail seem to have the best deals with Vodafone including 12 month contracts which is quite appealing in this day and age.

I know many people say mobiles.co.uk are crap and they might be, but you can get £60 quidco through them and mine has tracked.
    Kind Regards

  • Well thats me finally made my mind up and ordered. £45pm 600mins unlimited text and internet with a £63.99 phone price. A happy camper on a 12 month contract here I think. Any tips or suggestions for a new user when it arrives?

You will love it, I had a problem with battery life was really crap (died within 6 hours), so I flashed the phone and now lasts 2 days with full use. Not sure what was wrong, maybe something I installed was hogging the mobile.
    Kind Regards

For any one that has an unlocked & unbranded N900 from Nokia, you can now get the latest Maemo 5 update that allows a 3 sim card to be used. It's version 2.2009.51-1.
I'm loving mine and have had it over a week but couldn't use a 3 sim until today. Awesome phone!
