My ds has very sensitive skin (i can't even use johnsons in the bath as he literally blisters all over if i do-same with their wipes) and this works a treat.
Thanks for that will give that one a go. x
Reading through this thread makes me realise l don't scrimp on other things l hadn't thought of for instance bread - got to be brown (if white, Hovis best of both) pref with some nuts or seeds in.
Toilet paper is my bug bear l've used value stuff and it's horrible no way would l buy the best paper to chuck away so it's somewhere in the middle when there are offers on.
Thanks everyone, and yes why are bottled tomato/brown sauces cheaper than the plastic versions??

I generally will use own brands when available except for when it is an item I will be using a lot, such as tools and the quality is discernable.
I don't eat meat so don't have that issue of cheap meat, but I do eat fish and can tell that Bird's Eye may taste a bit better than supermarket own brand, but usually not by enough for me to apy the differerence, apart from when an offer is on.
I find birds eye fish is rubbish! I like Young's, but recently discovered Iceland's own brand is very good.krazykidskate wrote: »coffee has to be a nice one, it lasts for ages so why make everyone suffer with a 59p jar
We only ever bought one really cheap jar of coffee back in the days when we were really skint and it really is vile! OH is a coffee addict, and I rarely drink coffee, but even he wouldn't drink it! We tend to get a drum of coffee from Asda as it's less than £4 and tastes OK. That said we are drinking a lot of tea now and I've been trying all the different brands, as they've come up cheap on special offer. Yorkshire tea is my fave, OH prefers Tetley, next box we have waiting is PG tips (haven't tried them yet). Hated Typhoo, but am going to try the Sainsburys basic ones as have heard so many good things about them!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
A few things we won't change are
Coffee, can't stand cheap own label stuff.
Loo Roll the really cheap tiny rolls are a false economy imo, they are just horrible, I do buy Nicky when I get the chance to go to Farmfoods and considering they are only £1 lovely and soft theres no need for those tiny scratchy rolls.
Bread, can't stand shops own, not that keen on pre-packed at the best of times and I'm looking into getting a bread maker.
My oldest will only drink Coca Cola, which he buys himself.2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32

Toilet paper - if its too cheap it falls apart or you end up using half more for the same job, we generally get something like Andrex or Double Velvet or Charmin, always on offer in Asda
Sausages - seen too many programmes on them recently, if their not good I won't eat them
Pepsi Max - I'm addicted to this, I drink far too much of it, but in my opinion nothing own brand beats it. I've tried Asdas version of it and it just tasted flat.
Also things like shampoo, toothpaste etc
Oh and reading back up noticed fabric conditioner, we don't and can't scrimp on that. I've got sensitive skin and have found quite a few have bought me out in a rash and allergic reaction. Also same for the washing stuff, we use persil small and mighty. Its expensive but mum says it does the job better than powderJust me, in my own little world

All this talk about coffee reminds me of the bloke l once knew who used the best for himself but served VALUE coffee to his guests!! He was quite open about the fact too, probably didn't get many visitors either :rotfl:

Meat, washing powder, ketchup and peanut butter lol0

I love food shopping and trying out new products and am quite willing to give anything a go once.
Im less happy about compromising on food ethics (FairTrade, Freedom Foods etc) but sometimes my budget is so tight I dont really have an option.
Having said that I do enjoy my food and Im happy to search about for deals on products I do like a lot. Dorset Cereals museli is one, the best I have tasted. One of the supermarkets usually has a deal on and I stock up them.0 -
Yorkshire tea
Always, always, always buy yorkshire tea. It's expensive but GOOD!0 -
Just remembered another one - Marmite, OH has eaten another brand when I've bought it but he didn't really like it. Luckily I got a huge squeezy bottle of it cheap from AF so not likely to run out for a loooong time!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0
