Hi all, don't know if this is on the right board please move if required.

We're all good at trying to save money on these boards so l just wondered if like me there are certain groceries you won't scrimp on, mine are:

sausages - got to be at least 80% meat
fabric conditioner - some cheaper ones l tried didn't smell nice
washing powder - fairy non-bio for little one, and ariel for us (although l am open to advice on these because l'd like to cut down but haven't found anything as good for cleaning as those two - however l do mix powder and soda crystals 50/50 to make money go further with them ;) )

Having said the above l only stock up when there are offers on and not unless!!

Let's not turn it into a slanging match as l'm aware some people cannot compromise too much and that doesn't mean you are a better or worse parent/person for it.

xx

Happy moneysaving all.

I use own brand for virtually everything.... apart from Colemans English mustard. I've just never found a replacment to match it!

I won't scrimp on any kind of meat. It has to be good quality - preferably from the butchers. Supermarket meat is generally cr ap

I know what you mean. What I do is buy a decent size piece of good quality meat and make it go as far as possible. I bought some beautiful beef yesterday, was quite expensive, but made a big stew and split it into 5 portions for the freezer. I would rather go without something else than buy cheap meat!

It used to be hair stuff too but I use Alberto Basalm £1 shampoo at my boyfriend's and it works a treat. £3 cheaper than my Aussie bottle!

never scrimp on diet coke. I have at least 10 cans in the fridge at all times and i carry them wherever i go to stay at peoples houses for fear of 1) no coke or b) supermarket own. i get panicky if i run out and have to buy more, even if i dont want it. as long as it is there if i want it, i feel better,

    is diet coke addictive?
  • I agree with staffie1 about meat, we can get by with mid-range chicken, pork etc. though I'd rather not buy any beef than buy the cheap stuff as it's always been disappointing.
