  • Most of the tinned/dried food we buy is supermarkets own, bread from bakers, meat is from our local butchers, veg from veggie box with top ups from supermarket. Things we haven't changed are:
    Coffee - Nescafe
    Tea - Yorkshire
    Tomato Sauce - Heinz
Washing Powder - Daz or Bold

    Meat.

Will not eat any meat from a supermarket anymore, its just plain nasty, best thing anyone (apart from veggies) can ever do is find a good butchers. Not only is the quality of the meat better but its also cut and prepared much better too.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
  • Cheap loo roll, no way not worth it, although I do buy supermarket own brand. Other than that, I have to buy more expensive shampoo, soap etc. I'd be happy with cheap stuff but owing to allergies I don't have the choice.
  • coffee
    teabags
    meat
    washing tablets/conditioner
any hair, nail or skin products
cat litter (has to be Catsan)
    Diet Coke or Pepsi
    chewing gum or mints
    orange juice
cheese (cheap cheese tastes like nothing)

Many non food items I wont scrimp on (quality of fabrics and cut of cloth is EVERYTHING when it comes to clothes that last a long time. Around 50% of my wardrobe is longer lasting stuff which does cost but lasts decades! TKMaxx, ebay and 90% off end of season sales are great!)

    But food/drink wise?

Quorn!! I love quorn and no cheaper brand seems to do. It does cost alot but I do value it and find that if I don't eat nice food, I get cravings and can end up eating many extra things to override the craving which can lead to weight gain!! Better to have a little of what you want rather then lots of whats second best!

I also buy the filtered milk as it lasts longer. I can buy a 2L bottle which costs ml for ml the same (or less) then 1 pint of normal milk.

Schwepps diet lemonade. Much better then any other diet lemonade!

Large porridge oats rather then value stuff which tends to have (too) smaller grains.

LoSalt: this is the only low soduim brand that doesn't give me a nasty after taste.

m&s yellowand red cherry tomatos. Because they aren't just any cherry tomatos.....

oxo cubes - chicken, beef and veg (though i've often wondered if Tesco's own are ok but daren't change as it may ruin a whole meal)

Sensodyne toothpaste (shops own don't work as well)

Heinz Tom soup for daughter (I can't even make it that nice)

Diet Coke for DH (he moans even if i buy pepsi)

We don't do too bad really do we
  • We don't scrimp on teabags, they have to be pg tips and I like good quality sausages. Other than that I am happy for shops own in most things and in a lot of cases actually prefer it. I don't like Heinz ketchup or beans and prefer Tescos ketchup and buy branston beans when they are on offer. As soon as my eldest son goes back to university we will be buying Tesco's value wholemeal bread again instead of Warburtons. He has discovered Warburtons now that he is cooking for himself and has been buying it while he has been at home. I have found I actually prefer Tesco's value brand which as it is half the price I am quite happy about. I won't buy value white bread or rolls though.
