How much is an FTB property where you live?

My son is 25. He's saving for a deposit. He could easily afford a mortgage just now but he wants to save for as big a deposit as he can. He doesn't want a flat. He wants somewhere he can live for a few years at the very least. He doesn't really want to go over £130k for his first house - although quite a few of his peers live in £250k+ houses. He could quite easily get something for around £80k, but he wants somewhere half decent. We're in Aberdeenshire.0

Fair enough.
So what would be the next step up form that?
In an area where you'd still have a car in the morning?;)“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I think this is a possible FTB house. It's ex-council but in a good area. They always sell well. http://www.masson-glennie.co.uk/uploads/mgf00469/mgf00469.pdf0

I suppose I could live there. But, Dignitas offers a better overall quality of life.0 -

Thanks jackieb, is you son at home just now, or in rented? What kind of place would he be looking at for 80K, and for 130K?“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Hamish isn't a troll. He has strong opinions and posts lots and lots of articles. I suspect you call him a troll because you don't agree with a lot of what he says and this is the easiest way for you to engage with him.0 -

Well, as it's only £16,000, I would suppose you could get something a whole lot better for a lot less than the 400K you were stating earlier.....
Seriously, what is the cheapest, entry level, "non-suicide-inspiring" place within 45 minutes of you?
It's not a trick question. Genuinely interested.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

He's at home.
He could get a flat for £80k or an ex-council house in not such a good area - which he doesn't want.
Here's a flat for £80k. http://www.brown-mcrae.co.uk/portal/schedules/schedule62.pdf
He wants somewhere to park - not necessarily a garage, so the house in the other link would be okay for him.
He could get a bigger mortgage as he has a good job and salary - but he doesn't want to overstretch himself.0 -

Impossible to find.
Too much rent as you buy, or part buy crap getting in the way.0 -

In the same area you could buy this place which is an okay looking 3-bed semi for £99k.
I'd be quite happy with that as a FTBer and seems a decent price. I think any property for £15k in this day and age will be awful.0
