Thanks Weezl, turns out I had about 600g so used your tip and made it anyway - was lovely. :j:T
Hi scooby, thanks. Just hate the waiting after an interview, I'm checking my email like a maniac atm!
Made some dumpling cake last night in the microwave - my mum gave me a recipe from a girl in her work ages ago and have never got round to trying it. The first attempt was a disaster - it actually was a brick. OH's comment being "You could drop that out the window and it'd make a hole in the pavement" :rotfl:Well, he wasn't wrong! (Not that I chucked it out the window to test it :D). It was very dry when I was making it but didn't think to add liquid.
So did a bit of internet research and merged the recipe my mum had given me with elements of another recipe and it worked much better.
The second attempt involved muslin cloth soaked in boiling water and covered in flour wrapped around the dumpling and then being placed in a bowl of cold water and covered with cling film to steam in the microwave. I'm quite impressed with it as managed to get a skin but my mum will be the true judge of whether it's a good dumpling or not.
Feeling a bit blah today, not much planned apart from some washing and ironing. OH rushed out the door to work at 8am today - the reason for his hurry? The new iPhone is out today. I told him he was a sadsack which he thought was hilarious as he'd never heard the expression before. Actually, he makes me say heifer a lot as well because he likes the way it sounds in my accent.:rotfl:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. My mum took me shopping for my birthday today as she'd just been paid. My birthday is mid-month next month and she wanted to make sure she had enough money to get me something.
She was a very kind mummy and bought me flip flops, shoes and two dresses. The dresses were in the Dorothy Perkins sale and then I saw some sandals in New Look that would go, I paid for them as they were only £12 with 20% off. :j
So had a nice day as she bought lunch as well and then we went back to hers for dinner. My brother was quite talkative for once (normally just grunts like most teenage boys :rotfl:) and was telling me about his driving lesson.
Just chilling at home with the cats now, OH is out with some guys from work but "won't be late". We'll see. :rotfl:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Well, not been up to much, we stayed in yesterday and just relaxed. I made the mistake of having a nap in the afternoon and woke up very grumpy.
The clammy weather isn't helping.
So far today we went out to buy cat litter and food for them. Managed to get lamb hearts reduced in Makro and nice cheap ox kidney again. OH seems to mysteriously disappear when we get home and it's time to cut them up before freezing them. :rotfl: The smell isn't pleasant but other than that I don't really mind and I know the cats love it. Also got some frozen chicken livers and sardines for them, so really just need more muscle meat, probably some Turkey thigh which is nice and cheap.
Have already put on a washing, put one away and did some ironing. Sitting watching the England game with my (English) OH and keeping my mouth zipped. :silenced::rotfl: I do enjoy winding him up.
My cats are still scared of the ironing board - weirdos. The timid cat keeps running away from it so OH picked her up and sat her on it and she started rolling about and "owning" it.:rotfl: Don't think it cured her phobia though - as soon as I lifted her off she ran away again. :cool:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Well OH was disgusted by the England result yesterday - I thought it was quite funny myself.;)
Have stripped the bed so far today and have the pillow and mattress protectors in the wash. Need to think about what to make for dinner as OH is quite grumpy in the heat and doesn't like hot things - so that would be all the dinners I make then. *need roll eyes smilie!*
Made the mistake of leaving some rolls unattended in the kitchen - for FIVE mins - and the bloody cats had jumped up onto the worktop, dragged them onto the floor and started eating them. It's not like I don't feed them! Can't leave anything out or they eat it! My boy cat likes rolls, cakes and biscuits and the two girls will eat literally anything. I wish I could keep them out of the kitchen. :mad:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. Feeling a bit down today as still haven't heard back from my interview last week.
I thought it had went quite well but am preparing for the worst now.
Not sure what I'll be doing today, probably not much. My skin has been really bad the last few months which is also getting me down. Have never had problem skin before but now it's all bumpy, spotty and dry on my cheeks and nothing seems to help.It looks pretty horrible and even with make-up it just dries and sticks to the dry skin and you can still see the bumpiness.
OH is really stressing out about money and I just can't seem to calm him down. It is worrying but we will just have to manage - and I think we have done pretty well considering I've been out of work since March. I will have to think about claiming JSA, which is something I haven't done as I feel embarrassed about it. I know it's silly (especially as I used to work for them!) but can't seem to get past it.
Oh well, doom and gloom today aren't I? :cool:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -
Got a phone call this morning to go for a medical for the role I was waiting to hear back about. Not been offered anything but they don't tend to do that until you've passed the medical (as far as I know). Just glad to have heard back and to know that the application is progressing. :j Looks like I passed the interview stage at least.
Think I will be taking my mum out for a bit today as she's been feeling a bit down lately. Will be good for me to get out of the house as well.
My timid cat woke me up last night by yowling and wailing and I really thought she had hurt herself so went rushing through. The nutbag wanted to play fetch with her ball in the middle of the night!:rotfl: Needless to say, I didn't play with her!Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Went into town with my mum and sister yesterday, my sister had three of her kids with her so it was quite hectic. It was really warm so the kids were getting grumpy and so was I!
My mum then decided it would be a good idea to buy all 3 of them footballs (that's a 3yo and the twins who are nearly 2yo ) so needless to say the balls were thrown every which way.
I think I'll need tranquilliser darts if I ever have children - the 3yo never listens to a word I say and just says "NO" everytime I ask him to do something.:rotfl:
Then had a visit from a couple of my friends, was nice to see them as well. One of my friends had her nephew with her (2yo) and he was terrified of my cats. Thought this was quite unusual as any kids I've had in the house have usually been fascinated and wanted to touch and "cuddle" them! My youngest cat is usually terrified of kids due to this but kept trying to sniff the wee boy because he actually sat still and was behaving himself unlike my nephews who run about mad!
Have got my medical tomorrow and am not sure what to expect. I think it will be testing for drugs, checking eyesight, blood pressure etc. Hopefully everything will be fine and they will offer me the job but trying not to count my chickens atm.
No plans for today which is just as well since it's raining heavily - weird weather. Waiting on a parcel as well since it's my mum's birthday next week and we ordered the present online. It's a joint present from me, my brother and sister so it better arrive on time. :eek:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Will be heading out soon for my medical and still feeling a bit nervous about it as not sure what to expect. It needs to go well for me to get this job.
In good news my mum's present was delivered yesterday so that's one less thing to worry about. Still need to buy a birthday card and think I will make cupcakes instead of buying a birthday cake for her.
Also need to go to the library later so will do that after I get back from my medical.
OH is off out after work so will have to try and amuse myself tonight. At least the cats will keep me company.
Waiting on a pension refund from my last job so hoping that arrives soon as they really take their time to do anything. We are back in the O/D already and this month is probably going to be a struggle.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Well, the medical wasn't as scary as I thought it might be. I had blood pressure taken, a hearing test, short eye test, had my colour vision tested, was weighed, had to pee in a cup with the woman outside the door (felt like a criminal!:rotfl: Also had to show her there was nothing in my pockets and wash my hands before going in) and I was breathalysed.
The only thing I'm worried about is that the occupational health people want a report from my GP regarding my stress/anxiety that I was off for a few weeks with in my last job.Scared that they will decide not to employ me because of this, plus it will take even more time for everything to get sorted. So occupational health are writing to my GP today, GP has to write the report and send it back, occupational health then decide if I'm fit to do the job and report back to prospective employer.
Also got a letter from the prospective employers saying I need to get a Disclosure done and pay for it myself. If I get they the job they will reimburse me. Fine, except I don't have £23 to pay for it - O/D it is then. And if the occupational health people don't like what my GP puts in the report, I won't get the job and will have wasted £23!
A (bad) part of me kind of wishes I hadn't said anything about the anxiety causing me to take sick leave in my last job as it seems to have caused so many problems and I might not get the job now. But most of me knows it's always better to be honest about these things cos it could come back and bite me.
OH just sent me a text saying the pension refund went into our account today so that's good.
Managed to buy a birthday card for my mum and went to the library to get new books. So just trying to relax and not panic over the whole medical fiasco now.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
