Oooh I'm all excited - OH just got a cheque through the post for £485! :j :j We can use it to clear his Capital One card. :D

He had a claim with More Than on the home insurance for a v expensive camera that was broken when one of the cats knocked it off the coffee table and it smashed. This was over a year ago and they refused the claim because the cat caused the breakage.:mad: So, fool that I am I agreed I would buy another one for him on my credit card. It's paid off now thankfully.

Anyway, they recently called him trying to get his business back and he explained why he left. (They also refused to pay out on pet insurance at the same time for dental work for one of the older cats - costing us £400!). They checked his policy and said the claim should have covered the camera as we had accidental breakage on it.

After a lot of being passed around OH finally got through to someone who said yes it should have been paid and to send proof of purchase for the replacement camera and they would pay out. :j They still took £100 excess off but it's money we weren't expecting to see. :j

So pleased as this means Capital One card will be cleared and we can concentrate on the Barclaycard. After that it will just be the debts on the DMP and Northern Rock to tackle.

Better go, I'm still in my pyjamas and my friend is coming down to see me in an hour. :o

    Hi Sashybo
Wow! So much going on! Congrats on the insurance company paying out - brill news especially as you can use it to pay off a card, that'll be one less thing to worry about.
I don't think that your current employer can withhold giving a reference, especially if you applied and were offered the job before you went off sick?

I agree with you about the Twilight films. I liked books 1 and 3 but didn't especially like the other two especially the last one which I had to cut out a whole chunk in the middle which was v.dull.
Don't know about you but I don't think that Robert Pattinson can act. He was very wooden.

We got Hurtlocker from Lovefilm the other day and stopped watchign that halfway though. It was so so dull. Found that about Jarhead even though I enjoyed the book. Perhaps it's just me and my irrational hatred of "critically acclaimed"

  • I didn't mind Jarhead (although I don't remember much about it - memorable film that one!) and totally didn't get the point of Hurt Locker..... there was no story as such, we just sort of jumped in a point in their situation, then jumped back out again - very random!

Hi sazzle and Sarah. :hello: I've not seen Hurt Locker - heard from a few people that it's rubbish and haven't seen Jarhead either, just didn't fancy it.

The insurance payout is a nice surprise, especially over a year later, although it might even be two come to think of it. :j

I'm not sure about the reference, things move so slowly in my work that maybe it's just the HR department taking their time getting the reference out. Just want that reference soon!

Yeah, Robert Pattinson seemed a bit stiff in the film and the baby powder on his face was NOT a good look. :D I've not started the fourth book yet but thought the others were ok, not great but not as bad as I anticipated either.

Had my friend round and we bought strawberry mini rolls (yum) and watched trashy daytime tv. She is pregnant and still a bit in shock as it wasn't planned - she keeps saying she still doesn't believe she's going to have a baby. Going to some pregnancy physio thing with her tomorrow afternoon as she doesn't want to go alone. So we're hoping it's not too dull!

It's snowing again. :( Don't want to go out in it so secretly hoping my friend won't either. :o She has the choice to go next week so hoping she will wait for that class. I need to return some library books by Saturday but can also renew online.

Finished the fourth Twilight book surprisingly quickly - silly but entertaining enough. :p Think I will start reading The Tommyknockers by Stephen King next, got to love some Stephen King. :)

Need to keep an eye on my oldest cat - she has started plucking fur off her leg and has a wee bald patch. She's done it before and the vet says it's probably boredom, the skin isn't broken or inflamed so just trying to catch her doing it and then distract her. :( The only toy she likes is a wee mouse filled with catnip but she won't play with it if you look at her!

OH is banking his cheque today. :j

Still snowing. :( Took my library books back this morning, was a bit of a slog through the slush and snow. Got a headache from the cold and was exhausted by the time I got there, then had to walk back! Thought I should get out though as didn't go anywhere yesterday.

Waiting on some scratchcard money and click money that can go to my cc. OH still waiting on cheque to clear and used £25 he won from Jackpot Joy towards the O/D. We are only -£170 which is pretty good for us and £116 of that is the factor fee we should have saved for but didn't. :o Payday on Friday.:j

Need to sort out which account to keep the factor fee and car money savings in. Going to start putting £20 a month away for each. Not sure if I should keep each pot separate or not. I have two separate current accounts plus a savings account apart from the joint a/c. One current a/c is used for click/survey money and one isn't used at all. My savings a/c (rubbish interest rate) has my Flooring fund money in it atm.

Think I will have a bath after facing the elements - am exhausted!

Ok, really am exhausted now. Had to go back out to pick my nephews up from school and nursery as my sister couldn't get her double buggy with the twins in it through the snow.

So of course it started raining and the snow changed to slush and I got soaked through. My polka dot wellies kept my feet nice and dry though. :D Oldest nephew didn't have wellies and felt left out as both me and his wee brother had them on. :rotfl: The wee one said when he grows up he will buy his big brother some Thomas the Tank Engine wellies. :rotfl:

Was hard work herding them home, trying to hold the 3 yo's hand and keep him off the road/out of puddles/copying everything his big brother did. Spent half the walk shouting "Get to the inside of the pavement!" "Put your hood up!" "Don't slide in the slush, I'm not picking you up!" I don't know how my sister copes with those boys and a double buggy at the same time!

Had to dry myself off at my sister's for a while before coming home and the twins were off with my handbag. Both boys had my wellies on - they were up to the top of the wee one's legs. :rotfl:

Needless to say I was glad to get home to my (mostly) quiet house!

Got £4 from Pinecone today so that is in my Paypal account, have about £18 sitting there now. This will be the basis of my new fund - probably saving for a new windscreen for the car first of all, just the excess we will have to pay but still about £70.

Also paid £50 to my cc as it's payday, which works out at £26.85 extra over the minimum payment so that's my pad today plus the Pinecone money. Still waiting on that cheque clearing so we can wipe the Capital One card, am sadly excited about it! :o

OH is getting a replacement Nintendo DSi through the accidental damage on the home insurance, excess is £50 so still cheaper than buying a new one. He offered to pay it from his own account but I said joint a/c was fine as it was me who wrecked it with my cup of tea. :o

Still trying to work out what I'm doing with saving for car and factor costs. Think I will keep them separate but not sure. Will have to discuss with OH later I think.

OH is getting a dine in from M&S on his way home from work - we're using one of the M&S vouchers we have so costing nothing. :j

Feeling very achey today, think it might be from slogging through the snow several times yesterday and towing a 3 yo through it at one point. It's shocking how unfit I am. :( Have been trying to get back into the routine of doing 15 mins of Pilates a day though.

Asked OH to ask around his work about finding someone to do the flooring for us in the hall. Better to have someone recommended I think and would really like to get it done soon. Typical that the man we wanted seems to have gone out of business/disappeared!

Feeling quite down today and worried about having to go back to work. Got a letter from them today asking me to go to a meeting next Tuesday so now worrying about that as well.

Just don't know what to tell them and my doctor's appointment isn't until the Wednesday - which they know so confused as to why they want to see me before I will have an idea of when I'm coming back.

I just wish I could afford to resign and then could wait for the admin bank job. Don't know how long my current employer is going to take over providing a reference though as it's already been over three weeks since they got the request.

No use talking to OH as he will tell me to stop worrying and not to be "defeatist" - this is his new favourite word to describe me. :( Can't seem to snap out of this weird mood today and know I have to look for other work seriously but just can't face it. I hate feeling like this.

Had a bad night last night as couldn't sleep. Kept thinking about the post-grads I have tried and quit, I can never seem to stick at anything. I started a teaching post-grad two years ago and I loved working with the kids but found the rest of it all so hard. My grampa died suddenly just before the course started and I found it really difficult trying to make friends and was alone a lot at uni.

When I went on my first school placement there was no tutor visit and I felt pretty much abandoned by the uni. The school itself was very unsupportive and some of the staff were openly hostile. I was working with three different teachers over the week with the class I was placed with and I didn't know what I was doing. I was also working all weekend every weekend so we had enough money to survive so was doing nearly 60 hour weeks.

Needless to say the school failed me on my placement and the headteacher gave me a big list of everything I'd done wrong leaving me a crying wreck. It totally shattered my confidence and I couldn't face going to the next placement and ended up dropping the course altogether.

I still can't think about it without wanting to cry and I couldn't stop thinking about it last night. I pretty much get that I'm a coward and can't seem to stand up for myself. Just wish I was a different person sometimes.

    Hi Sashybo
I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience in that school. The school I was on placement at first time round was awful but nowhere near as bad. Unfortunately some schools are like that and seem to have a very big turn around of staff! It annoys me so much taht I want to work with kids and helo them to leanr but I have so so much more to do that often planning for lessons and conducting the lessons has to take a back seat.

Don't beat yourself up over what you haven't finished. You seemed to have had a heck of a lot going on for a while. Just be proud of yourself that you had the guts to realise where something wasn't working and move on from it.

It does seem a little odd that they are organising meetings when you haven't met with the doctors, I would just go to the meeting and say "I don;t know" to everything.
