Chatty bunch today
Just wondering, odd question really! Is cheesecake easy to make?
Wanting to make my Mum elderflower cheesecake for her birthday, and I've never done it before. (Infact I never even really liked cheesecake until we had a lemon cheesecake from a bakery in Hovingham *yum*)
Went to get my brother and grandpa their presents after all. Got my brother this (making him the chocolate guinness cake too) and got my Grandpa this mug (and making him a batch of twinks hobnobs) Have a nice weekend!
ETA: Took ages to type that! Dinah, I think the 'leaves' are the right amount of fuss, would look too plain without them! Your list is going well too.0 -
Really easy, once you've made a few you don't really need a recipe. Make sure you leave it in the oven to cool along wit the oven cooling to prevent cracking of the cheesecake.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I'm in wedding hell. With 2 weeks to go our photographers (who in the original email said 'our package covers you from bride getting ready all the way through to first dance) have said they only do 8 hours - therefore will be leaving 1 1/2 hours before cake cutting and first dance. I feel fleeced tbh, so am seriously considering asking a family friend to do it, saving about £500, I'm just so annoyed.
What would everyone else do:
Pay the professionals £900 but not get pro photos of cake cutting and first dance
or
Pay a semi-pro friend £250, photos may (or may not) be of similar quality, and loose the £50 deposit, have photos of the whole day.

Well, only you can make that call. *But* since you yourself have an eye for photography I'd imagine having the perfect photos is important to you and you are risking not having the perfect shots from the semi pro. At the wedding we went to in May they had a 'semi-pro' friend doing their photos and they were awful, I'm sad to say! They had no big group shots, a few of the close family et al but most of us didn't even know that photos were being taken, and she (the photographer) did not round anyone up, she just wandered around taking random snaps. The wedding was at a gorgeous hotel with lovely grounds and they didn't even have any photos outside, yes it was raining but it wasn't that heavy and did stop long enough to get photos if the girl had actually had any sense. The couple signed their register in front of a window and even I (who can barely point-and-shoot!) pointed out that the photos wouldn't come out and lo and behold, they came out all shadowy and horrid. I'd have been gutted if I was the bride and I really think that they should have scrimped on another aspect of the day for a better photographer who actually had some experience and sense!
Is there any way of talking the photographers into staying longer? Can't you throw the 'we do the whole day' garb at them and ask why aren't they doing that for you?! Has the semi pro got a portfolio that shows that they're capable of doing a good job?
In my news, I'm still ill! Hooray!I went to work thinking I'd be OK and I felt pressured into it by my colleague ringing me up on Thursday and saying, 'I want Monday and Tuesday off, you'll be in won't you?' so I didn't really have a choice! I lasted till 3 then told them I'd come back too early and came home! Back to the doctors tomorrow morning to find out what the flip is wrong with me!
In happier news, we spent some of the money from OH's parents yesterday! We bought this chair and footstool (in 'Sumatra Teal') and this sofa in the colour shown (2 seater), it doesn't look very nice on the site but it looks much better in person and it is insanely comfy! The chair should be here next week and the sofa in about 4 weeks. We're going to get some wallpaper to go on our 'feature' wall and then we'll have a lovely living room, looking forward to it!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I did, they said I was being unreasonable expecting 11 hours. At this point I feel like I'm going to get their second best work anyway so I'm just plain !!!!ed and considering legal action since with 2 weeks to go they decided to vary the terms of the contract - I think they've been offered a job on the Sunday.
Spoken to my dad and he knows a few pros in the area who may well do it for a lot less, might end up going down this route.
Part of me thinks I'm being unreasonable, does a first dance photo matter that much, and another part thinks, hang on, for £900 they ought to do whatever the heck I want, and I never would have booked people who didn't do the full day all the way through to first dance.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I think you're quite right in what you're thinking! I'd want first dance photos and maybe some outside in the dark photos if the venue calls for it. I'd have thought that was part of being a photographer, you may only do one or two jobs a week but it's long hours when you do them. See what your Dad comes up with, you could be lucky and get a great photographer who does the whole day at such short notice with you getting married on a Friday.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. Hey Dinah
Sorry to hear about wedding hell! And mean photographer - that's very disappointingAlthough my friends didn't have pics of their cake cutting or first dance, the photographer left just before the meal. But if you wanted these, could you get a friend who takes good photos to do either end of the day as a wedding present? Either the getting ready part or the first dance? I'm not sure of the timings of the day, if that would work out within the 8 hours time frame.
If it was me I would not get professional photos of the first dance, as these tend not to turn out as nice - it's a dark room with loads of people in. Some of the bride getting ready pics I have seen were so personal and wonderful I would be tempted to go for these. But that's just meI think photographers are quite harsh to deal with really.
